Literally just discovered this book series tonight. Can't wait to explore all of the goodies! Will be my first dive into any game book series but I feel as though I'm making a wise choice with this series 😎
Never played this one, but the FF gamebooks I played were hard, with only one correct path that was really tricky to find. Kudos for all the time and patience it must have taken for you to find it. Thanks and would love to see more of these!
I seem to remember looking out a window in the adventure and seeing something horrific (oodles of fear points) and was glad it was the Mordana in Abbadon message. That's a nice little mechanic - I don't remember that at all.
Not bad man. This was a really good book I remember from 3rd grade. It's hard, especially if you don't have a good fear level. In my opinion this is the best Fighting Fantasy book. ..And I've had them all. Written at the heart of the Satanic Panic!
Thanks for your readings, you really understand Fighting Fantasy and take it seriously, not like other readings I have listened to by Americans (no offence to our American friends) who do not understand it and take the mickey. p.s I am sure you can spot some grammar mistakes in my comments!
I don´t get why in fantasy scenarios characters start with weapons while in modern urban scenarios characters start unarmed. Don´t they carry a concealed revolver or at least a folding knife? A handaxe in the car trunk?
Thanks for this -- I never beat this damn book back in the day. BTW, I always played "unofficially" and took the best out of three rolls when I was rolling for Skill, Stamina and Luck (and in this case, Fear). Was it "cheating"? Eh, maybe. But other gamebooks always offered that option, it seemed, and there was no way in hell I was gonna start off in a gamebook with a Skill of 7!
I think the books lie by saying that even a player with the lowest scores can still win. Sometimes, it's just impossible with too low a stamina and skill score.
For some reason, I found it easier than others, such as City of Thieves. I don't think it was so highly-dependent upon having the proper items at the end or else you're screwed, like many of the other books are. I don't recall it taking too many tries to beat it, or to find the so-called "one true path."
Great stuff, I played the iOS version recently, never had the original back in the day but I was really into these books. One thing I noticed about this, it's really hard, if you don't get maximum roll for Fear then you can't beat it, you probably mention this at some point unless your version differs from mine.
its a shame u cant lower your fear points in this just like u can get stamina points back in the others only the other way round with fear points only the other way round
.@@chrishopton7359 No. That's not realistic. Anyone else would have just mowed down old Frankenfurter & maybe even caught some air off him. ..Then just kept going. ..Fukin Frankenfurter done pisses me off.
Absolutely loved these books in the 80’s. Great play though series!

Fighting Fantasy is definitely the gold standard of gamebook series.
This is what the song Hotel California is about

that's an interesting description of driving through a rain storm.
Yeah, the author is good at making something mundane seem so dramatic.

I totally agree! Anyway, I love these playthroughs, and hope you will do more. My favorite one from back in the day was Caverns of the Snow Witch.
That one is particularly difficult. Very tough monsters if i recall.

@@MrDuneedon I'm planning on getting round to it soon. I think I only read through it once but was quite taken by it.

A fear score of at least 9 is needed in order to be able to complete the game.

yes, 2/36 chance of getting 11 - at 26;17, you are correct!
I think the only thing that deducts fear is the brandy
I think that would apply in any situation.
You literally have to go a passage where you are not instructed to go?
Who is the person he thinks he runs over?
probably frankenfurter
The old man at the gas station. ..Who is also [strangely enough] the same old man you'll later find hanging from a tree outside of a window.
