there is actually a 3 part series on another channel that last 10 hours in total that is called "best of sam" and funny thing is, is "only" until episode 85 of the first campaign in moments. given that the average gameplay time of a cr episode is a little more than 3 hours (and that is already taking away time because sam´s ads are already good moments). that means that on average an actual "best of sam" compilation that is up to date, taking into account all the episodes would probably be around 45 hours long (and that is if we dont take any oneshot or not campaign related episode and if we dont take the ads)

Man the range on this guy for the performance he can put on is stellar and just a marvel. I cannot believe he can make dick jokes and do funny bits about killing some manticore child, then turn it around and drop this performance of a speech on the spot, then have this emotional of a performance about something that was clearly bothering him a little bit about Scanman's lament. I seriously can't comprehend his ability. The very next episode, too, he was back with the goofiest dnd character I've seen in a bit, some dude with a journalist robot lmfao. I'll say it a million times, Sam is just an S tier performer.
The fact that scanlan remembered Percy's parents but didn't interrupt him or try and win the argument but let him vent and leave showed how real the emotions were
Liam's reaction to 1hp Nott will always get me. He's so relieved that Nott's ok, but also terrified at just how close they were to losing Nott & he didn't even know about it because Sam said he was "ok."
I think Sam using his 9th level spell to counterspell Vecna is the only time I've seen him cry at the table. The love between Liam and Sam is just so obvious in that moment. It always gets me.
can someone give me context for this scene? i haven't seen c1-c2 and only know bits and pieces, obviously vecna is a huge foe but what made it so epic/what made sam cry?

@@allychaaan Basically Liam's character had died earlier and brought back by the Raven Queen as this revenant-like entity to finish Vecna, after which he'd have a final death. Sam was saving the 9th level slot for Wish to save Liam's character once they kill Vecna and Raven Queen comes to collect. Sam & Liam joined the group together and these were the characters (iirc) they started with way back before c1. Sam chose to Counterspell Vecna's Teleport attempt in the final fight, instead of saving his friend from certain death.
It’s crazy. The more I watch critical role, and the more I played DND, the more I realize how incredible of a player Sam is… And I’m pretty sure he is the only cast member who can actually outsmart Matt Mercer
I'm interested to see how they translate the 9th level spell slot over into the animation. Maybe it will be as simple as just Scanlan finding a special item that grants him a Wish and he has to use it on Vecna instead of Vax.
They've already established magic as a finite resource, it would be pretty easy for Scanlan to just run out of magic and not be able to stop the Raven Queen from taking Vax.
My theory is that Ioun gives him a single wish spell. Scanlan confides with Pike about his plan so the audience is privy to what he is planning to do with the wish
I don't like Scanlan as much as a lot of other people do. But the fact that it was his first DnD character ( he kinda made as a joke) that eventually got a slow clap from a DnD vet like Joe Manganiello and the multiple times he has wowed the rest of the cast, is sort of a testament to Sam's genius.

It both warms and breaks my heart to see him feel so hard for these little guys, these little characters they invented, Scanlan and Vax, that have become larger than life.

Loquatius's speech is such a mastercalss DND moment, it's got wits, emotion, passion and the best joke that had me in tears
