I am a rectally ugly male. Though no female will look my way, I still do not cater to their ego. It would not help me anyway. I am 60, my son is now 26. I told him long ago when he was 13, always make sure the girl you date likes the same things you do and you like the same as she. He met a girl gaming online, after about 4 years they decided to take the next step. They live in another state, have just bought a home, still game, have great paying jobs and are enjoying their life together. So glad my son listened to my advice. My two cents worth is that you can have totally different interests as long as you totally connect on the existential stuff, things like values, morals and worldview. Imagine being told by a stranger you're not pretty enough to 'try this act'. Ouch. I'm positive that interaction stuck with her for life, like a red scar that will never fade. One can only hope she learned an important lesson in how she behaves and how she treats men. My two cents worth is that you can have totally different interests as long as you totally connect on the existential stuff, things like values, morals and worldview. It's almost impossible to comprehensively assess all this during the first few light-hearted social meetings but it's mindblowing when you find someone you have chemistry with and an immediate connection to, suspecting it's because all these sacred unspoken things are shared. I think that's what people mean when they talk about 'love at first sight'. Not necessarily, LITERALLY at that first sight, but within a unusually compressed amount of time. It's delightful when it's even platonic and you make a new friend in this way. Isn't it great? Such a gift and it's heartbreaking when people don't appreciate the rarity of it when young and operating at high velocity, thinking life will always be that easy. PS= Enthusiasm is one of the most attractive qualities a person can have. It's so contagious and uplifting. Even if a partner or friend isn't into what I'm into, if they're interested in knowing more about my passions that's good enough, and vice versa. After reading some of these comments I am so very grateful that I found my wife when I did. I had a thing for hot, yet very mentally unstable chick's(Cap'n Save A Hoe syndrome).
