@Olivia Purcel It's really not. I'd agree that, working with children and seeing them grasp new concepts is the most fulfilling aspect of an otherwise highly demoralising and stressful job.
@Olivia Purcel I don't have first hand experience but from all the teachers that I've spoken to socially it's a mix all the extra paperwork, rigidity of the curriculum and teaching methods, uppity parents who think their child is an angel who's the next Einstein, unnecessarily and arbitrary targets they're expected with a chronic lack of funding and investment for resources that leaves them demoralised from the job.
Mark n Instead of wasting time marking he was spending time with the kids actually teaching them and supporting them in all areas! I am an early years teacher and fortunately my little ones are very young and do not write reams and reams of sentences and so on. Thus I don’t have as much marking to do, though everything I do is in the moment with them such as taking constant observations. I then have to edit them, update targets, create activities and teach concepts too.
Mark n yes I do appreciate I teach younger children so it’s a little different but all teachers have similar issues: marking, sats/exams/tests and pressure for all kids to achieve on them, planning that takes ages and so on. All of which mean we cannot spend time as effectively with the children. A jam packed curriculum is the other main issue which restricts children’s chances in doing arts, sports and so on.
Romesh's situation was an accident, so can't really pin it on him. Also jokes aside, I feel as I'd have learnt far more with teachers like Romesh, Guz or Greg compared to who I actually had as teachers lol

Guz Khan and Greg Davies together make such a great recruitment advert for going into teaching. Could include Romesh Ranganathan in that too.
Really I think the opposite, both left teaching to go onto bigger and better things. Romesh is another in that group.
