Dear BMW-Team, I really appreciate the ideas you have for your future infotainment system. But why are all the buttons on the steering wheel digital buttons and why didn't the iDrive-Controller survive? It was literally the perfect solution for the driver to use the car's features while driving without being distracted. And I thought that's the main focus of your new system!?
@@philliptownsend2829 so I guess all the functions can be accessed from the wheel? I doubt it. And please don’t tell me using the voice assistant. Talking with sleeping children in the car is quite the worst you could do.
The main focus here is the screens, the steering wheel is straight from the Neue concept and will probably be different in production. It also didn’t show the centre console which means there might still be hope for the Idrive controller.

Absolutely! i have two bmws, and love the physical controls and ease of use of the idrive 7 model. The perfect system would be idrive 7 but with an updated UI and graphics.
@whz6ka Well put. The graphics are nice but I've almost gone off the road a few times over the climate system alone over it. They made it feel too much like a tablet with apps in 8/8.5 but it works a heck of a lot better compared to what's coming.
Dear Bmw Team, we already have the future in our hands, we don't need unnecessary digitalization in our cars. We need engineers with taste and good ideas. Ultimately we need fair prices. Greetings from B-W, Rottweil.
Digitital traveling cages and this crap tracks everything you do. It is the trans human weirdos behind this that are trying to train people for this no privacy future. Hive mind.
You had unique interiors with buttons and cool ergonomics. Now you offer a parody of Chinese salons, which initially did not appeal to anyone who valued German quality!
Given the last year's recalls from Porsche's 911 and 718 with chances of wheels falling off, I speak for all the Chinese auto makers that they don't want to be drag down by German quality.
No iDrive controller, no physical buttons … means the continually increasing reliance on touchscreen and the complete gimmick/failure of voice commands. The result is exact opposite of “keeping your eyes on the road” … as those create more driver distraction than using the controller and related buttons. No controller and physical buttons makes this a failure of design/execution, and a farce to claim “eyes on the road” as a priority. Cost saving was clearly the greater goal, as it is with every vehicle with a screen centric design.
You managed to write that comment with a complex pocket computer :-) . My current i4's air-condition and clima menus are directy, permanently accessable .. I bet you would also spot and control them easily ;-)
When going from my 3 series to my current 4 series I was afraid about missing the air conditioning buttons. It’s not that bad actually. They are always visible, they are highly responsive. No menu searching needed. I still agree: buttons beat screens. At least BMW does it better than most others.
Pre-LCI physical HVAC controls on the current gen X5 and 3 series are much easier. I just don't understand who would think pressing a screen multiple times while driving is a good idea (if you don't use the auto setting).
removing buttons to cut cost just like Tesla, I'm not getting a new BMW the same reason I'm not getting a Tesla. That center screen is very small if you're putting everything on it.
Even the newest 5 series ends up with extremely distracting reliance on touch screen and touch sensitive buttons that just make a screen appear instead of just regular buttons that do what you expect them to do. Instead of differentiating yourself by having better, safer physical controls with touch screens when/where they make sense, you’re just copying Tesla by removing all the buttons. This is disappointing.
You reached the peak with iDrive 7, widely regarded as the best infotainment interface in the automotive world, and have since lost the plot with touch screens and menus. When I went from my 840i to my iX I couldn’t believe how distracting it was to try and do simple tasks like change the setting on the heated seats. The iX went back after 3 months of software issues and frustrations. I wouldn’t buy another iDrive 8 and onwards BMW, and that from someone that has had over 20 BMWs and has two sitting on the drive today.
So, are we expecting another round of designer team firings in bmw in 2025? I hear more and more people switching to Audi as the last harbor of what used to be user ergonomics. How is it possible that such brand as bmw handed over cockpit design to yesterdays graduates who have no idea about user ergonomics and usability? They are just coping everything from chinese brands, but even that they are doing very poorly and childishly naive - let's sprinkle lot of colors all around the dashboard as it looks so much fun and unicorny
Finally. I have been looking forward to this since it was shown in the electric concept cars. Please don't take five years to implement it. Although I enjoy the large screen in my car now, this implementation makes Way more sense, and then goes back to giving far more focus and attention to the road, and away from having to Always be poking around on a screen. Sending driver focused widgets to the windscreen is far more logical than the current setup in the way of having a driving focused experience.
+@SteevWho Hi, thanks for taking the time to comment. You’re spot on this implementation is more driver focused and is tailored to you. Thanks for choosing us and watch this space 💙
I usually don't comment but as you BMW seem to read these comments but unfortunately only respond to positive comments I just need to state that moving away from the great iDrive which after +8 years of using an i3 and +3 years of parallel use of an iX3 is a huge step backwards no one understands (not even your dealers and sales teams btw). No controller was ever more suited to blindly control the car not only by the main controller but also the physical buttons placed around the main controller and navigating through the screen without touching (which for most people also means to lean forward) and allowing for the least amount of distraction. I do like the idea of panoramic iDrive but I would still prefer to navigate by the means of a physical controller (btw, that's why most people still prefer a mouse over a touchpad or touchscreen or using voice control for your PC). I think we would all like to read some feedback from you BMW in this respect, thanks

I like the monitor that is skewed to the left. I hope that the view of the left-hand area in particular is not obscured by the steering wheel. The info bar under the windshield is a nice idea. I sincerely hope that the buttons on the steering wheel are real buttons and not touch-sensitive. Round steering wheels are better to drive than designer pieces.

I think BMW may have forgotten that there are humans driving their cars (at least for now). Also, until they stop placing controls commonly accessed while driving on screens and the inherently less-ergonomic haptic surfaces, it'll never truly be an ergonomic interior.
