This video opened my eyes to random stuff one could come up with to carve. After watching this vid, I was inspired. I did a hatchet, instead of a big ole axe. I cut the blade a bit flat, drilled a hole for the nail in the flat cut. And it hangs on the wall, to look as if it were thrown into it. Axe throwing ppl love em!

That is bad ass. I carved a hand gripping a viking sword a while back ago, only much smaller scale, basically the same kind of way on roughing it out. you did an Awesome job there, I definitely want to try this sometime. Also think that spalting towards the bottom looks killer and adds to the piece.
