I did hundreds of dives on the ARMORED CRUISER USS New York. She was sunk Christmas Eve at Midnight 1941 by the Marines at Subic Bay to keep the Japanese from grabbing her. She has a big blast hole down by her keel. Her crowsnests are wonderful areas to explore on her masts. Look out for the gigantic moray eel that lives inside the mast.
Also discovered a huge ferro cement hull for an OILER, probably Japanese, but maybe American... that was sunk off the Olongapo river. Once I discovered it, my telltale diving on it everyday , the filipino divers in plywood fins and refrigerator compressor dive rigs cut her up with hacksaws. She had wonderful 3/4 inch rebar that sold for a couple pesos a pound. 90 feet deep.
As an Operations officer at NSWU-1 , I requisitioned 3 F4 Phantoms aircraft out of DRMO (Salvage Yard) and towed them out of Subic Bay on a huge crane barge and sank them for purposes of conducting military operations ( around 1990) on aircraft that might have been shot down ( for the exercise) with sensitive equipment aboard, in hostile waters. One of those F4 Phantoms was inadvertently salvaged by the Filipinos out at "Green Beach" and turned into belt buckles when the assigned sentry watch failed to supervise them, as he was allowed to go back to Subic and eat at the chow hall. Such is life in the Philippines. "everything was stolen, they just havent showed up to cart it away". One time we found an aircraft carrier anchor 10 miles into the Jungle. Go figure.
I discovered in 1989 and dove the Japanese Hellship "Oryruku Maru", the Japanese freighter name "Yalu River". I did numerous dives on it. I asked COMUSNAVPHIL if I could put a wreath on it for Memorial Day (1989) as the various compartment holds ( 5 in all) had lots of bones in the mud from the POW's who never made it out when she sank 100 yards from shore. Unfortunately permission was denied as the US Navy did not want any press on the numerous wrecks in the waters surrounding the Naval Base. The Oryruku Maru lays parallel to Alava Pier. Lots of artifacts. LOTS. Brass treasures galore. We also discovered the USS New York, aka USS Saratoga aka USS Rochester. She fired the very first shot of the Spanish American War (1899) and was the flagship of the invasion fleet fo Cuba Admiral Sampson ( Matazas Cuba) . The Admirials cabin aft has a nice bathtub with brass lions claw feet. Pretty sure the future Teddy Roosevelt and the Roughriders were aboard as he was UnderSecretary of the Navy and he resigned his commission so he could lead the Roughriders in the Charge up San Juan Hill in Cuba.
additionally, the Japanese Patrol Boat is likely a sub chaser, because I can see incredible similarities between this and the Sangat Sub Chaser in the Coron bay. Recently they found a sonic device on the Sangat sub chaser which proved that it is one.

Is the water's visibility often just so-so? I'm not sure if I want to dive these wrecks in such murky waters. (Not a tech diver).
No mention about the POW ship that was sunk in Subic bay.
She was sunk right in front of Subic admin pier, well kept SECERT
