So nice to see you with a proper sailboat after all the years keeping the original Catalpa afloat. She showed you the world and you showed her plenty of love, but her time has passed. Looking forward to many years of following your new adventures.

Great to hear Taj doing the commentary on this episode, nice job mate! We have had some 'fun' getting the kite into the sock on our Cat when we failed to get it in soon enough, trick is to really let the tack sheet fly so the sail completely empties. Cant believe how cold it is in Mexico!

@ 11:20 mark that grey bird is an Asian Dove, also called Bared Dove due to the dark bar across the back of the neck. Also good to eat if you get a mess of them. So much better without the drone of the engine!

Nice Catch. Here in South Africa we wrap the snoek in foil with apricot jam, lemon juice and garlic butter and we normally braai (BBQ) it over a fire, but you can bake it in a oven as well.
The new sail looks nice and colorful and your journey seems nice. Happy Sailing. 🐟⛵

The topp foot of the spinnaker (gennaker as we call it in Europe - no boom) will always look like that while using a sock). To avoid getting it stuck in the sock when launching it, pull slightly in the lower part of the spinnacker as you pull the sock up. This is to avoid too much cloth is gathered above the ”exit” of the sock. Best regards, Martin, Sweden

Not trying to take the wind out of your sails but an gennaker is a all purpose down wind sail and spinnakers are built for downwind apparent wind angles just thought I’d let you know cheers.

11 Knott's,❤, wow thats really good! Beautiful drone shots as well,, and here's a thought, I've read that if you reverse the drone when trying to catch it, the avoidance system doesn't come into play, and makes it easier to catch. I don't know if that's true, I've never flown a drone myself. But it might be something to try.
I should think the stove would have movable arms that would cradle the pot over the burner, even though the stove is gimbaled. There should be a rail on each side of the stove for the arms to lock to. Maybe they're in a storage compartment and you haven't found them yet, or certainly they could be purchased. Otherwise cooking while underway can be very dangerous, as I'm sure you know.
These last three videos have been a joy to watch. All your hard work is paying off! ❤❤ Luvya all!😊❤

    • @SailingCatalpa

try leaving your mizzen sail up and tightly sheeted home if the anchorage is a bit rolly. It can be eased a bit to adjust for the swell.

Hi guys. Love the spinnaker. One suggestion. From the view with the drone shot. it did not look like you had the spinnaker hoisted up all the way to the block. We made that mistake our first time with our spinnaker and a few hours later, the halyard chafed through and the spinnaker landed in the water. It was a nightmare. Enjoy the winds. Will

Hey guys, been following you for a few years. Great Inspiration! And now you're in our neighborhood. Hope you're enjoying Baja. Maybe you know this but I thought I'd save you some potential trouble, the sea life in Baja is off the charts, lots and lots of Langostas however its actually illegal for us gringos to harvest them, best thing is to just purchase from a fisherman for a few bucks. Hope you caught Scorpion Bay good! I'll be surfing in Cabo and on the east cape this weekend and next week, would be cool to catch some waves with you guys! Enjoy Mexico I really love that place despite all the craziness we hear about. Safe sails guys and gals!

I was surprised by the wikipedia fact that snook inhabit the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean and the Atlantic Coast from North Carolina to Brazil. There is no reference I found to confirm them on the west Coast of Mexico, which is a rare catch indeed! Good job.

Gennaker - a spinnaker uses a pole with a sheet and guy... (a spinnaker needs practice and learning - not an easy sail to fly). A gennaker is much easer and a great puller in light winds.

Well, not seeing that extra foot at the top of the spinnaker just killed the whole vibe, I am unsure if I could ever watch again, what a catastrophe.
Just kidding, who cares it looked great.
I was reading a report from a leading marine biologist and it seems like there is some confusion existing in the whole Wale species.
