I am Trinidadian and I didn't even realise that there was still a French Creole community in Trinidad speaking French/Patois. When my great-great-grandfather moved to Trinidad from Martinique, he felt so much pressure to assimilate that he refused to teach his kids French or patois.

I’ve been watching a lot of random French based “creole” videos from different countries and I’m impressed with how the base usage of “mwen” is consistent everywhere, wow.
The Canadian French "moué" is also much closer to "mwen" than the standard metropolitan French "moi". There are many other 17th and 18th century words and pronunciations that were preserved outside of France.

A lot of French settlers from Guadeloupe and Martinique moved down the island chain especially to Trinidad. Calypso actually had its genisis from Martinique during carnival time and was called Chanté Mas where the songs were based on scandals that took recently occurred.

Unfortunately, Paramin is one of the few places in Trinidad where Creole or Patois as it is called is still spoken. My mother is from St Lucia and I used to speak it with her but I forgot a lot of it. However, I am sure if I went to St Lucia I would pick it back up in a few months

I’ve been watching a lot of random French based “creole” videos from different countries and I’m impressed with how the base usage of “mwen” is consistent everywhere, wow.
The Canadian French "moué" is also much closer to "mwen" than the standard metropolitan French "moi". There are many other 17th and 18th century words and pronunciations that were preserved outside of France.
I love the expression Mwen we should phonetize Miuen, in parisine french means moi, in Maine, Manel Marítime and Burgunhe means Moen,in Canadian Quebecois that I love too is Moué that's english is I and spanish is Yo and portuguese means Eu.

"Moué, mwé" est la forme qui était couramment utilisés dans toute la moitié nord de la France où on faisait usage de la langue d'oïl.
Ce "moué" a précéder la forme "moi" utilisé en français STANDARD. En réalité, c'est le son "oué" [wé] qui était couramment utilisés et le son "oua" [wa] l'a supplanter en Français standard, normé, moderne... Néanmoins, ce son [wé] se retrouve dans les dialectes d'Oïl (comme le picard par exemple) et donc le son [wa] utilisé en français standard se dit [wé] dans le reste du domaine d'Oïl.
Ainsi, les dialectes d'Oïl d'ancien régime reflètent pleinement la structure fondamental des créoles à base française et l'on retrouve alors le son "oué" [wé] nasalisé "oin" = mwen 😊

A lot of French settlers from Guadeloupe and Martinique moved down the island chain especially to Trinidad. Calypso actually had its genisis from Martinique during carnival time and was called Chanté Mas where the songs were based on scandals that took recently occurred.
I was wondering if Trini actually speak it without the influence of other nations. Because I heard there are thousands of Lucians living here, so I feel like Patois was brought into Trinidad

Unfortunately, Paramin is one of the few places in Trinidad where Creole or Patois as it is called is still spoken. My mother is from St Lucia and I used to speak it with her but I forgot a lot of it. However, I am sure if I went to St Lucia I would pick it back up in a few months
