High For This is the perfect introduction to Abel for anyone who's just getting Initiated* to his work. First thing out his mouth is "You Don't Know What's In Store, But You Know What You're Here For" and he does NOT let up. If anything, it's just the surface of the abyss and you're about to get lost in the darkness, or in this case, the dark side of Love.
Lol The Weeknd single-handedly carried the modern slow-dark alternative R&B genre (Quiet Storm is more classical today.) Most of the dark and ambient focused artists today like PND, Roy Woods, 6lack, Talwst, JMSN etc are practically inspired by the guy. During Trilogy (Thursday, EOS etc) we didn't even know what The Weeknd looked like nor did we know his real name for a few years after the Drake link drop.. he wouldn't even do interviews and sometimes would completely turn down HUGE live event offers for the sake of remaining anonymous for a time being. It wasn't until people started deep diving into the music for clues did we find out that he had an entirely (And it was kinda cheesy) pop-ish mixtape which included one of the very first songs he had sent to Drake and weird experimental songs (Birthday Suit, Love through her, Superhero, Material Girl, Rescue You, etc) Then people found a MySpace page of his and his actual name. That lead to several videos on RUclips being found of him singing Happy Birthday to someone's friend on a bus as well as one of him dancing around to one of his own songs and watching weird videos with a friend of his. (Two girls one cup I believe...) when that was a RUclips challenge back in the day... lmao
You just got a subscriber! I would love to see you go on this journey and I'm so happy you caught that "Cali is the mission" connection because it really does show his growth between his mindset of where he started vs where he is right now in his career
If you really love Abel's atmospheric tracks and electronic/synth sounds - you're going to LOVE Kiss Land (his debut album) or sure o.o! Also, you reacted to the original unremastered Trilogy tracks. The only difference between the Trilogy version and the original mixtape version is that most of the voice samples are gone and the mastering is crisper. The biggest difference is the added bonus track added to each mixtape. House of Balloons has 'Twenty-eight' as its "true" final track.
Mixtape will always be goated for me as After Hours is Wicked Games, The Morning, HOB/GTG is my top 3 but every song is good to amazing start to finish 9/10
Very good and different from a typical reaction. Really liked the clean layout and that you put a 'timestamp' on every song on the album. Normally, I see other reaction channels give the impression that they're focusing on the song with a blank stare the whole time, give 2 sentences and then move on meanwhile you actually give a more in depth view with a good personality. Hopefully you react to more Abel in the future.
@@brianattyberry haven't watched The Third Ernest's reactions yet, but I'll check him out soon. Mr2kGod is a very funny dude and his reaction to the Trilogy mixtapes were entertaining as hell, I don't know what's up with Bigquint though, his reaction to After Hours was a little bit underwhelming, but I guess he doesn't feels Abel's music as much as before, which is understandable, but still kinda sad about it.
Just seeing this comment! Thanks man I really appreciate the kind words. More Abel coming for sure. Haha. My ‘Thursday’ reaction should be out later this month!
My thoughts Pre-Knowing reaction... I wonder how this track is gonna effect him... Bet it changes his whole life... My thoughts Post-Knowing reaction... Ok maybe not his whole life but I'll take it

Can't wait for you to react to the song the rest of his albums after Kiss Land especially one of my favorite songs Shameless" off the Beauty Behind the Madness album 🎶🎶🎵🎶🎶🎧 XO
