Everytime I play this song, I’m instantly transported back to my high school days. Specifically this one day in Year 9 nearing the end of the day on a Friday. I was in art class about 30mins before the bell goes and it was raining outside, I was sitting in a separate room with my friend from the rest of the class and these two Year 12 (senior) girls who were doing their own thing. I’m a lot happier now than I was then and I’m so grateful for the impact Gorillaz have had on my life : )

There's emotion in every part of the lyrics, the vibe is insanely good and very appropriate for a post-apocalyptic storytelling, all the rythms in the song are top-tier, with the buzzing noises, the electricity element, the muffed voice, everything in this song is PERFECT.

I'm not even kidding when I say I think about this every day.
My group of writers friends and I are currently writing phase 3. I write for Murdoc, so my heart clenches in my chest every time it dawns on me that Murdoc doesn't know how to express himself or how to be a good person, unless it's in song form. His lyrics are so deep and meaningful and emotional and vulnerable. A side of him he only shows in the form of lyrics, because it's safe. If anyone asked him why he wrote the lyrics down, he could easily tell them "It doesn't mean anything significant to my life. It's a reflection of whatever the listener experiences while listening."
In reality he's bottling everything up inside and pretending to be strong and stable enough to power through the day's

+Leon Zilla lol, I don't doubt it, but I don't really listen to the metal genre. Honestly, I'm more of an orchestral guy, myself (which can admittedly get pretty aggressive). No, but I was listening to Hurt by NiN the other day (and a couple other songs) and talking to my brother about what it meant to us. One of the interesting things we both noticed was Reznor's inflections while singing Hurt, how raspy and almost dry it sounded. And we speculated that maybe it was done on purpose to convey the idea that the singer is not some person sitting behind a mic in a recording studio with some angelic voice. It sounds more like what you'd hear drifting through an alley from the parched throat of a homeless person who'd lost everything. But the concept being portrayed through it is that what happened to the singer can happen to anyone and everyone. And it is - we're all being consumed by our greed, pride, and self-destruction.
Anyway (sorry, I kinda ranted there), my point being - Trent Reznor is an incredible vocalizer and a brilliant musical artist.

I can't really quite explain why, maybe just the vibes and lyrics, but this feels like the anthem for 2024. It has kind of a grim inevitability sound to it.

I'd like to see what it would have been animated, but you're right about it fitting the mood - if you listen to the instrumentals closely and the tone of the vocals throughout, it's actually incredibly simple, making it all the more powerful. Being a simple storyboard with...unnerving colors absolutely complements that feeling.

I feel kind of upset that this was one of their last big parts of the story, since after all of this they gave up on the plan and decided to make everything go back to normal days 7 years later in Humanz, I just feel like there could have been so much more.

Sad thing is, from what I've observed so far, the Gorillaz fandom seems to be separated by two kinds fans. One would be those who only listen to the songs, and second would be those who genuinely care about the story.
I think the small portion of the latter don't call out to the creators enough, and I kinda wish they did. I would be happy if they were able to make even just a comic series. I'm fine if there wasn't a movie as long as we get to see the characters and their stories get concluded somewhat.

Rhinestone Eyes was intended to be the next single off Plastic Beach after On Melancholy Hill, and storyboarding began even before the On Melancholy Hill video was officially released. In interviews this year Jamie had indicated that the videos would form a continuous story (including, in particular, the interview with Time Out Beirut in which he said it was intended the story would play out over 'four or five' videos). Rhinestone Eyes was already being promoted in the USA from early June via Gorillaz official promo partners All Access and promo CDs had been pressed and circulated. However, before the video went into production EMI indicated to Gorillaz that they would not fund it. This was probably down to poor chart performance of Stylo and On Melancholy Hill, and a lack of backing for Rhinestone Eyes. Plastic Beach itself has, even considering the overall downturn in music sales over the last 10 years, performed poorly commercially in comparison with the s/t album and Demon Days. (although it has sold around 265,600 copies in the UK, 351,179 copies in the USA, and well over 1 million copies worldwide).

I literally have no idea what is going on in the film but the song still slaps
The main take away is the Noodle is reunited with the band and their friends, Murdoc outsmarts the boogeyman, and Noodle gives Cyborg-Noodle the evil eye acknowledging her presence in the band.

Considering the weight of this song despite its pop sound, I'm really happy that Gorillaz decided to officialize the music video that this artist made & posted the storyboards of, it really fits. Adds a lot to the mythos around Plastic Beach, too

To all Gorillaz fans, it was revealed on Oct. 20th that Albarn and Hewlett have plans to reactivate the Gorillaz and are planning to make a 2016 release of a new album. ^_^ Not sure how they'll continue the story from here but we shall see. xD

I can't believe it has now been 14 years since the Gorillaz's released one of their greatest albums Plastic Beach. Time goes by fast I was nine when this album came out.
I remember the huge gap between Demon Days and Plastic Beach - the hype when PB came out was so real, but at the same time it was a bit of a question as to if they could follow up the success of DD.
We had nothing to worry about - Demon Days and Plastic Beach are down in history as being *the* definitive new age alt-rock/pop albums for the 2000s.
