There are 3 sensors on the thrust retainer bracket that tell the deck the door is opened, closed and locked. The closed sensors can easily get damaged in the reassembly, its wise to turn the white gear on the far right a little bit to avoid the tab on the gear to land right on top of the sensor. Giving that gear (ejection gear) a turn... It normally point to 6 o'clock, best to turn to 4 or 4:30 to avoid the sensor tab then turning the gear back to 6 o'clock to engage the closed sensor.. once assembled. Great job so far. Personally i would have removed the door and replaced the pinch rollers as well to avoid future wow and flutter. Ill have to share a link with ya to help you with TCM 190 & 200 transports

Thanks for the info. I was careful of the sensors. I was also trying not to move the mech when apart, although I think I know where things should be now after the TC-K611S I did. The pinch roller was in good shape, but I know what you're saying - for the cost it's worth doing. 👍

Would this cause the Sony TC-K650ES not to play? When you mention the position at 6 o'clock you say it should be at 4 o'clock... I just replaced the belts and now when I press play the heads engage but the tape does not move & after 2 seconds the heads go back down to the resting position & the play light on the display goes out. Capstan motor is constantly spinning when the deck power is turned on, is this normal? Pinch roller seems to be in good shape. Belts are new... FF & RW work perfect.. Display and all functions are working. Any help/info is greatly appreciated.
      Thanks

    Thanks for the great video..
Replaced both belts and everything is working fine FF/RW door opens and closes perfect... Display is working perfect after the modification of the ir receiver... The deck will not play. With the top cover off I can see the belt turning the capstan when at idle and when I press play the heads move up but the tape never moves... Please if you could kindly respond with an answer as to why this would happen?
    Thanks very Much!

Hi, great channel. I wonder if you might have any ideas or pointers on what to look for. I got a TC-K677ES, and on playback, I'm only getting sound from the right channel; the level meters also show no audio on the left channel and only sound from the right. It does this from the headphone and rear line out.
If I record to the tape its records both channel in stereo (confirmed this by playing tape in another deck)
If I press the monitor button to see the source, I do get both left and right stereo sound output from headphones and line out, and the level metre shows both channels working. Only when I go back to the tape monitor will I have one channel working.
I also have hum on the rear, but I think this is because I changed the motor as it was not spinning before, and I have read that some cheap motors have a ground issue and create motor hum. That's a side issue for now. I'm just trying to figure out why, playing a tape, I only hear one channel.
Thank your any advice you can give.

Could be the pre-amp IC on the board, but I've never seen a faulty one before.
Likely to be a bad connection from the play/rec head to the board. Wire might have come loose from the head itself. To test, swap the left and right PLAYBACK channel wires over in the plug that comes from the head. If the sound is still only on right then likely the pre-amp IC is faulty but if the sound output now moves to the left, then it's either a faulty connection to the head, or faulty head itself.

@@ANTandTEC Thank you, that give me something to try, heads might be alright i just checked them and I get 305 OHm and 311 OHm reading from left and right head connector so i think cable from heads are OK.

@@WattTheTech Could be IC521 - op-amp. Probe the inputs and outputs of that chip.
