I opened for Canned Heat in the early 70s (at age 20). I was on drums then but now wanting to switch to harp (at age 66)
That's awesome Vernon :-)
That's awesome have you made any progress

Nice!
Epic
Bought a Sonny Boy 1930s and then a Lee Oscar harmonica in C ,it's been in my pocket since that day and the pleasure and therapeutic benefits are a melody of peace. A true meditation any time any place.
It's people like yourself who have encouraged and inspired me. Yer a top lad.
Al Wilson was a genius harp player. Since I started to learn harmonica I've noticed his playing more than before. I think John Lee Hooker described him as the best he had played with. High praise. You do his legacy justice Tomlin. As a complete novice...this is a real tongue twister! Thanks
Al Wilson was very tasty indeed Anthony - John Lee Hooker had a lot of respect for Canned Heat as a band also. Thank you for your kind words! :-)
Check out Canned Heat boogie chillin' 2 for amazing stamina harp playin'.
I've had these riffs in my head for decades. And now you've lit a fire under them.
Lucky me! As of now
1) I only have an A harp
2) I love this tune.
This lesson suits me perfectly 😃
That's super lucky all round! :-)
Go man go❕😄
So glad you've done this song. It's one of my all time favourite harp related songs.
Awesome!! :-)
Also one of my favourite songs! Tomlin, thank you so much for the lesson, the tab and audio clip! It will take a while to learn it, but it is worth it!!
I know you will do an excellent job of it Daniela - looking forward to hearing you play it :-)
Just started playing the harmonica. This is the song i want to be able to play when i get better:)
Right now im struggleing geting my licking technique on point!
One of my favourite tunes. Thank you Tomlin
That's great to hear Terry - I hope I have done it justice :-)
Love this song. Tomlin you make hard songs easy to learn. Just started getting back to playing after a long, long layoff. You have been great inspiration and motivation. 🤗
playd harp since i was 16. i am 50 now . this solo is on the bucket list.. not just learning the solo but a heap of new sounds . I bend those bottom two reeds poorly!
I originally heard this song played by Nine Below Zero when I first saw them live in the 90s with Billy Boy Miskimmin on harp, leading me to discover the Canned Heat original. I’ve since hear NBZ playing this with Mark Feltham on harp. That guy does a solo on it that takes it to a whole new level. Amazing player. I’m glad to find this video so I can learn it, although I will never be as good as Wilson, Feltham or Wilson. Or, for that matter, as good as Tomlinson Leckie. But I will have fun nonetheless.
Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson played was a true blues man....he left us way too early (one of the 24's)
he died at 27
@@coop6687 You are right, he was one of the 27's
Thanks for this Tomlin. Im really enjoying how you break down these classic tunes for us. It's fun to pull up a song and play along.
Another song off of the list of songs I wanted to learn when I first started. Thank you so much!
Brilliant Carey! :-)
Thanks, Tomlin! Everyone wants to play this lick!!!
My pleasure!! Yes, it's an awesome lick :-)
One of my old favorites Tomlin. Thanks

Another excellent lesson!
Thank you! :-)
I love this song, thank you so much, better start practicing
So glad to hear that - it is one of my favourite harp tunes too :-)
Great lesson, I enjoyed, thanks Tomlin!
A reflexion for myself is that as I progress on my skills I feel more tempted to listen to the songs and figure out the licks by myself. I will continue watching and thumbing up your videos because they help me a lot too...
Thanks again for the great work!
That is the best news ever Luis - you will learn so much by figuring out the licks by yourself :-)
Thank you🙏
Thankyou so very much

Haven't played in a long time...
Thanks tomlin! In 4 weeks I want to start with your lessons!
Awesome news Robert. See you at school then! :-)
At last, someone capable of writing things as proper music... lets have more.
Excellent :-)
Excellent
Merci énormément!!
That sounds great! Especially with the backing track
Cheers Kevin!
Tomlin................all the music printouts seem to be written as if for a C harp.Today we use an A harp, & see, as it were ,new lower notes appearing....B, A & even an A flat.
Am I reading you right? Stuff of nightmares. John Booth
My favorite song :D
Excellent Marek :-)
AH! The Keys! 😂
Super lesson again thank for PDF big like from Me Mr Tomlin
My pleasure Christopher :-)
Cool
Thanks. Would have never figured it out on my own.
¡Gracias!
Thank you so much!!
Great lesson! Question- do you have a video on playing the bridge after 3rd verse? I know he re-tubed his harmonica but any help would be awesome thanks!
Hi Paddy, I don't I'm afraid. I might do one in the future :-)
Hello Tomlin, i tend to play harder when it comes to 2 draw bend, and speeding up the first lick is cancerously hard. What do you suggest?
Btw you are the best harmonica education channel in youtube imo with the tabs and sheets, keep it up man!
Thanks for your kind words Burak :-). I would focus on practicing playing that 2 draw bend with less and less air. Work on using the minimum amount of effort to hit it. This will help you to speed up overall. :-)
Tomlin Leckie LOL ı just realized that my 2 blow Reed is way too open, luckily i was working 2 whole step bend all the time with harder setup, now i can bend with no effort 😅 ty so much
Great as always Tomlin. Now, do you know how to avoid making mistakes on harmonica. I mean, how to play clearly without playing an incorrect note. It always get in my nerves when in melodies like "oh suzana" I play something wrong. Just praticising I guess? Or is there another "secret" that you know?
When you reach a certain level on the instrument you have to make sure that you don´t commit this "simple" mistakes haha
Hi Vitor - I would recommend practicing scales slowly until you can play them without making mistakes. Then gradually increase the speed but make sure you maintain the accuracy. Think of this as sharpening your knives before cooking :-)
Very cool number,
With which program do you write your grades?
Greetings from Germany
Is that you Macaulay? Nice harp lesson mun!
Lol, yes but don't tell anyone :-)
Great lesson 🙏🏻 My Question is.
I am complete newb. I got diatonic harmonica in A it seems to miss some notes ? What sort of harmonica is the right one ?
Thanks.
Hello Tomlin, thank you for this lick.
Another question.I try it in english, hope you understand.
How can i get motivation, if it is gone?
Hiya - I'm sorry to hear you have lost your motivation. That happens to all musicians regularly. The things that help me are going to see live music or having a performance to prepare for. I hope you get your mojo back.
Hi Tomlin,
yes my mojo is back. Next time i make a jamsession with my son. There is another guy who wants to learn bluesharp
Can someone help me?What this little line on some arrows means?I m noob.
Maybe you know Paul Lassey's channel on RUclips ? He made a tab for these riffs some years ago but his version is a bit different. Both of the tabs have interesting parts but i don't know which is the more accurate
Ye i watched Will Wilde lesson.....some subtle differences....all good though!...great Tomlin!!
I'll check it out :-). I'm just showing you my interpretation of the song - it might not be absolutely identical. T
sorry guys im new and i dont understand whats that arrow with the number 1 in the middle ? how do uplay that please? thx
Hi Patrick - I think you might like my free Beginner's course which will give you all of the foundations you need - tomlinharmonicaschool.com/p/complete-beginners-harmonica-introduction-course The arrow with a 1 in the middle means you are bending that note which is quite an advanced technique for a beginner on the instrument. I hope that helps. Cheers, T
Is that the painting the kiss by Gustav Klimt behind you? How did you afford it?
Everybody says there was modified harp involved in this song, is it true? and how it was tuned??
yeah 6th hole on A harp mate
I think I need a different harmonica. I can't bend theis Golden Melody hard enough
On the second measure I'm not sure of what that symbol means on the 2nd note. Is that a bend?
How come I don’t hear the one blow at the end of first bar ??
And why you dont talk about the final part ? customized note, you know ? 😉
Can someone tell me what the 12 people who have thumbed this down we’re expecting? Oh, right they don’t have an A harmonica 😂
The harmonic solo part
Nato strap.
Alright Tomlin? Great vid. Helped me iron out the kinks! Now I set you a challenge, how do you play the solo in the John Lee Hooker & Canned Heat jam "Boogie Chillen no. 2" (ruclips.net/video/3KuVOlxaiX0/видео.html) starts at 5m54s. Much love mate, keep up the great vids!
I'll check it out ;-)
