- As Australia, Canada, the Philippines and the U.S. hold two days of joint navy and air force drills in Manila’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ), China tailed the exercises with three warships. Beijing announced it had also begun joint navy and air force drills around Scarborough Shoal, which lies within the Philippines' EEZ but is controlled by China.
We also look at the Chinese survey ship Ke Xue San Hao, being tracked by the Philippine coast guard.
For nearly two weeks, the ship has moved around Sabina Shoal and other shoals in several critical locations west of the Philippine island of Palawan.

Philippines doesn’t want to give in to their demands because it will be the end of “freedom navigation” in that area if we do. No matter how small our country is, we still want to protect our sovereignty and what we think is best for the entire world. A lot of countries are facing difficulties right now, adding exorbitant toll on shipping in that area would mean addtion cost on products.
If the US can exercise freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, there is no reason why China, a nuclear power, cannot exercise freedom of navigation in its own backyard of the South China Sea?

The Philippines need all the support from other countries and make a clear stand regarding sovereign rights and exclusive economic zone.
It's not only Philippine's interest that is being protected by Quads. It is the interest of the rest of the countries within the region. Maintaining the rules of law & freedom of navigation. The Philippines at the time lacked large coast guard ships, so they couldn't stop China from building those artificial islands. Now that China built those islands, what can the Philippines do to remove them? It can't really do anything, since those islands are military bases now, so it would require a military action to remove them, that means war, the Philippines doesn't want war with China. Plus if the Philippines started a war it isn't covered under the mutual defence treaty with the USA in that case.

The show of naval support from the US, Aus & Canada to the PHL is all about adherence to the UNCLOS rule of law. It only goes to show that the PHL has a solo jurisdiction in the WPS which is its EEZ or "sovereign waters" according to international sea codes. Any negotiation or "De-escalation Talks" of Manila with Beijing would only mean legitimizing those waters as co-shared with China & the terms are informal surrender of half of PHL waters to the Mainland. The PHL should stand it's ground & prepare to counter China's grey zone tactics no longer in the defensive mode but should of act pro-active.
Just wait till they start building island close to the Philippine shore or start drilling oil.

Philippines EEZ is well defined by UNCLOS, no longer dispute. But there are disobedient countries signatory to the UNCLOS acting unlawfully against the permanent decision of the UNCLOS on the Philippines EEZ. What the disobedient countries should do is file a complaint or claim to the UNCLOS and get a decision then act accordingly base on the decision. Suggestion for China (including Taiwan), Vietnam, and Malaysia: follow the treaty law of the UNCLOS of which you are a member - proper way of maintaining peace and order.

US, UK, AUS, CAN will most likely be allies forever and given enough time even New Zealand might be included because of shared ideology/values, history, culture, people, etc.. China had its chance to do the same with its Neighbors with Korea, Japan, and possibly even Vietnam and Mongolia, but they messed up by being the Soviet Union's puppet/proxy during the cold war. Imagine if Taiwanese government won the Civil war, Russia would've been alone by now and Korea would be united. The world could've been far more united and potentially more peaceful than ever, this is why I genuinely believe one of the greatest setback in Chinese modern history was letting the communist take over China.
US led 18 nations in Korean war was going nowhere with China. US in Vietnam was going nowhere because of China. US never won a war whenever PLA was around.

It was a war with a lot of restrictions, if it was an all-out war like the World Wars, China would've easily lost, US and Allies had all the means to strike mainland China wherever and whenever, the PLA didn't have that capability.
