I remember camping at the Letterkenny Folk Festival during the summers of 73 and 74. There was a competition and I remember a very good Irish/American band called Pumpkinhead winning. Seem crazy seeing the town with so few cars. Happy memories of seeing the Horslips in Derry and at Borderland in Muff.

Pumpkinhead were based in Sligo. Thom Moore died a few years back but Rick Epping is still around and spends time in Sligo. He worked for Hohner for many years designing harmonicas. The other members were their wives and I’m not sure if they’re still around.

My home town. Nice to see the two way traffic on the Port Road. While the town has grown to over 20,000 today, the structure remains the same.

I was 2 years old when this was taken. I can just imagine me mammy draging me around doing the shoping. Mental that letterkenny still looked a lot like this until the early 90's.

The "Golden Grill" Letterkenny! At 0:56 and at 1:47! Many a fine night I had there in the early 1980's with a crowd from Fanad! I remember Rock Stewart! The drive back up to Portsalon was always a bit hairy! Thanks for posting... the music is a treat. This is just what I needed to see today! Fine memories.

I can almost hear Tubular Bells in this music. Mike Oldfield is from an Irish family and you can see the influence

Yes indeed, Horslips brought traditional music to the forefront in the 1970's.
You should cover one of their acoustic pieces Damian, say, "The Best Years of My Life", Rescue me" or something off the "Aliens" album ( some great lyrical songs on that one)

Notice Raineys at 0:37 back in the day when people actually gave a gift as a wedding present. Nowadays it's hard currency or gold bullion...
    How times have changed.
