Great review fellas. Every time I see a nicely built Tundra I want one even more. Thats one fine rig. Those axles really set it off nicely. One of the nicest I've seen. Keep up the great work. Thumbsup
When RC crawling was in its infancy (circa 2000ish), the TLT axles were THE axles to use. They were generally paired with a Traxxas Stampede transmission, Traxxas driveshafts and a custom chassis. You created your own 4-link suspension setup using TLT parts (rod ends, ball fittings, brackets, etc) and all-thread rod that was sleeved with steel brakeline. Slap on a set of Traxxas E-Max shocks and you had a comp crawler. In fact I am STILL using the original pair of TLT axles that I started crawling with in 2001. I have done very little to the axles over the years and I have BEAT on them. They have been under several different iterations of comp crawlers as well as a scaler. They currently reside under my current 8x8 project, along with another pair of TLT axles. Before the days of Axial, you had to BUILD your crawler, not take it out of the box and run it. You had to learn how 4-link geometry worked, how to combat torque twist and how to have a good low COG while still maintaining ground clearance and a high break-over angle. I firmly believe that everyone who is into crawling currently should build at least one crawler from a set of TLT axles, a Stampede tranny (or Duratrax Evader tranny, in my case) and some all-thread. It gives you a sense of purpose and makes you more "in tune" with your vehicle. You begin to understand the importance of various components and how slightly changing just one of these components can either make or break the performance of your crawler. All in all, I can't emphasize the importance of the TLT-1 platform (both the Max Climber and the Rockbuster) on RC crawling and where it is today. I'm going to include a link below to my build thread on RCC for "The Mirage". This was a "what if" build that I did towards the end of comp crawling's popularity. I had seen several MOA setups using a very similar style of chassis, but one that were shaftys. So, I thought I would try my luck at making one. In the end, it was an amazing crawler, but was never quite able to combat the torque twist issue as well as I kept shearing output shafts on the Mini Revo transmission due to the enormous torque from the Holmes Hobbies Revolver S Black outrunner. Oh, and John Rob Holmes of Holmes Hobbies is a friend of mine and was a member of our local club. He was one of a small group of people that helped me really get into RC crawling. www.rccrawler.com/forum/tamiya-tlt-crawlers/343359-mirage.html
Greg Jones Great story! I built a couple of 'comp' ish crawlers on Pede transmissions, and one on the Evader. I still have that one. It's using custom linked E-Savage locked front and rear ends, really a massive rig, and now very OLD haha. I was excited back then to use the Traxxas 3 ch AM radio, and convert the 3rd channel to a 3 position! HAHA That's the lengths we would go to crawl over stuff! It taught me a TON about geometry, twist, and all the stuff you're talking about. A real worth while learning experience, and it would be great for anyone to give it a try!
'The Tamiya Word is the only thing that matters' ha ha. Great comment. I'm bitten by the Tamiya-virus too. Only thing that matters for me too when shoppin' :-)
Awsome work you guys, love the dedicated film, I have watched several now. I am a Vintage Collector fazing into the new stuff. I have 14 old school blazer/hilux and several vintage kyosho, marui. but I am a blazer fanatic. Looking forward to buying a new trailfider 2, tundra, etc but it will have to be with parting some of the vintage to afford these awsome trucks. God Bless.
Great episode! You guys really made a good point and a lot of people forget to just have fun. Keep em coming! Oh and Just a little tip from one RUclipsr to another... Don't look at the viewfinder while recording lol ;)
I have a TLT-1 and bought it brand new when they first come out. Awesome little truck. Sang has a later model one, the earlier ones the battery tray is different. And the battery for mine is a 6 cell but 2 of the cells are on top of the other 4 making it only 2 cells in length.
Tarrick DD Grant I remember that sort of cell layout in the very early RC cars! I didn't know the TLT-1 would come like that also. Neat! Thanks for the comment. you don't see too many of these trucks anymore.
The Toy is cool. Especially with those diffs. Their stock diffs look horrible. Not a huge fan of Traxxas but that new sound they have in the slash is so awesome. It's a real engine sound. Sounds way better then that one. but still a very cool truck.
What do you get when you put two newfees"and a China man In a room? ???????????????????????????????????????????????????? An amazing show😂😂😂😂😂😂love you guys
tundra! tundra!tundra!! :) I have two tundra. one is 6x6 please take a look at it either on FB or you tube. my alias is rcvikings fom Sweden. very nice youtube channel you have! how can I have missed it !! :)
I feel the same as you guys The scale of tamiya is great. I also don't care much for the way traxxas does or treats people and it customers. If you go to there communist web site you will fine nothing about the hobby other than traxxas. It truely is sad. And after posting there I wish I had not done so. I will not be buying Traxxas any longer. And even though I just built 2 custom chassis two 1/5 scale. When done with them I will be selling them on ebay. I do have a RCMK XCR1000 that I'm currently working on getting shipped state side. they haven't been put on the market yet so I will be one of the first to have one. I have some builds on there web site and a race motor from them and hope that I can do more with them in the future.
Fellas' great vid. I have a TXT-1 hardly driven. I painted the clear body the other day. 20+ years in the waiting. Vid over on my page if you want to check it out. Cheers loving all your vids guys. Autoplay is giving you some love.
Very cool. That sound kit is very impressive. Thanks for the vid, enjoyed it.
***** Crazy real sound out of that thing! haha
The Tamiya Tundra is for me the best crawler of Tamiya.
Congratulations for this collection.

Vancouver Island. Surf, skateboard, snowboard all in the same day.
Holy crap, the shell is just phenomenal. There is no way I'd run it just in case I scratch the body shell.

EXTREME SCALE PERFORMANCE Thanks man!
Wow nice reviews guys thanks.
That really looks so great with yota axles. For everything that Tamiya does great I'd think they would make their stock axles look more scale
