- Nikolas Cruz, described as a loner by a former classmate, had once been expelled from a Parkland, Florida, high school for disciplinary reasons.
On Wednesday, the 19-year-old former student returned to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and is suspected of gunning down at least 17 people, in a massacre that has now become one of the 10 deadliest mass shootings in modern US history.
Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said Cruz's digital profile contained what he called "very, very disturbing" content.
He had a variety of gun and violence-related postings on social media sites.

A lot of time that can actually lead to something called Survivors Guilt. Its the "why did they die but not me" and is especially strong if people you knew or loved were killed in the incident. Car crashes, plane crashes, shootings like this or Pulse of Vegas...even if a serial killer singled out a friend when you were closer to the killer or something. It can be pretty rough, almost as traumatic as the trauma itself....almost.

F.J it’s really easy to get mental health here in Houston. Not sure what other hospitals or states do. But if you walk yourself into my ER and say you depressed/suicidal/homicidal/ we first do an assessment. And if you are a danger to yourself or others you cannot leave the ER. A judge signs a detaining warrant that you cannot leave. You stay there with a 1:1 nurse until we find you a bed at a mental health hospital. Insurance or not. So. It’s easy. You just have to want the help and know where to get it.

A handgun you can keep in a holster behind your waistband or even in a pocket perfectly concealed depending on what top or coat your wearing. You can then pull it out at any point and shoot someone in the head and quickly put it away and then act like you don't know what just happened and run with the croud. Obviously it depends on whether someone sees you or not but on traffic stops and such you can easily just shoot a police officer in the head with a handgun but not a rifle. I'm not going to lie to you and say handguns are definitely more dangerous, because that's just not the case.

I feel like the age gap for the handgun/assault rifle laws are because of the concealability and versitility of a handgun over assault rifles.. Rifles are super large and clunky, and really shouldnt be able to fit in a backpack. You can see an assault rifle from a mile away. Pistols, however, are just as big as your hands. You can probably hide one in a school binder, and if he had a handgun and decided to shoot up his cafeteria during lunchtime, I feel like there would have been many, many more deaths.

You can purchase a rifle or shotgun at 18. A rifle has to have a 16+ inch barrel and a 26+ inch overall length to be considered a rifle. The reason you can purchase a rifle at 18 is because they are not easily concealable, and to change your aim with a rifle, you have to move your whole body. Handguns are easily concealed (there are even holsters that go on your hip under your pants for them), and are much more maneuverable. A common Glock handgun, the Glock 19, can hold 15 rounds in the standard magazine, and can shoot pretty much just as fast as an “AR-15” or any other semi-automatic rifle.
I think it makes sense. You can use a rifle for hunting, a handgun not as much. People use AR-15s for deer hunting sometimes because they have little recoil. It isn’t inhumane, as long as you fire just one or two shots and place them well. The rounds will be going just as fast as those from many different hunting rifles.

When someone reports an account that comments “I’m going to be a professional school shooter” and their username is LITERALLY THEIR NAME, there should be no excuse as to why that person can’t be found. Especially with the resources federal law enforcement have. Heck, I’m pretty sure I could have found detailed information just through the internet on who wrote that comment considering his instagram with the same name is full of pictures of him posing with weapons.

As for the first amendment. We have the right to speak, US has free speech. Free speech means your judicial and law enforcement are tied to reactivate rather than proactive in terms of action.
In the UK for example, you can be charged for making a death threat. In the US, you need to actual commit the act to be charged. You can solicite but even that needs physical evidence, not intent to proceed in court.
