Great may be overstating the case. He had a couple nice games and a couple meh. And that is in the summer league. I wouldn’t mind seeing what he can do if we have some garbage minutes, but I trust the coach knows if he’s ready for prime time usage.

Matt stated several times that Cade is a very good defender. I have to disagree. He has been good on help defense while leaving his man for open 3s. He has been average at best on straight up man defense. If he was very good on defense we wouldn’t need to beg everyone else to be our point of attack defender, Cade would be that guy.
He overhelps too much sometimes, yes, but I think you are conflating two unrelated things: I believe both
A) he is the best overall defender in the current starting lineup (blame Weaver, as always) and
B) it is definitely a worthwhile objective to not make him chase little guys around, both because his talents are better utilized in a different role than that and because he has to carry such a heavy burden on offense for this still-dogshit roster that it's counterproductive to ask him to do that too.
@ your point A is like saying he is the tallest guy at the midget convention since our other starters are Ivey, Hardaway, Harris, and Duren; all sub par defenders. He shouldn’t be chasing little guys around, he should be keeping them if front of him and locking them up. You would rather a worse defender fail to slow the point of attack, but that then makes the defense as a whole fall apart as we are seeing.
Ivey isnt the answer. What ive said Day 1. Ivey isnt that guy, dont let Piston fans love for a player keep us in NBA hell. Hes a good #4.

Just because they didn’t do it today doesn’t mean it won’t happen. They freed up more money to be a part of something. Multi team deals take time and this move showed other teams we are open for business.

Luka said the same thing about Brunson. After Brunson had a breakout season Luka found out he was better with a second playmaker so traded everything for Irving.

Having Beasley replace THJ makes more sense than starting a rookie who can't make a three alongside Duren.
If Tobias misses time with an injury Fontecchio will get more PF minutes.

Ku wants Ausar to die at this point. Those restrictions are for his health. The move isn't sexy, but it helps flexibility.
Waiving Reed was a move to tank for better draft position. The Pistons will be after bad contracts and a draft pick or a few seconds.

@@pheralanpathfinder4897 Reed wasn’t playing enough for his waiver to affect the team one way or another. It actually works to free up money to go after a player that could make a difference. We won’t know if it is a tanking move until this space is filled with either a good player(s) which would mean not tanking or other guys are moved and this space filled with expiring contracts and picks showing full tank. Waiving Teed and filling the end of the bench from our G league moves the needle neither way by itself since Reed wasn’t seeing the floor.
I'm not a Ivey fan. Nikola Vuk would ensure a 7th seed.

I beg to differ. I think Cade is good where he's at right now. The Pistons just hired a new coach in JB Bickerstaff last summer and Trajon Langdon as president of basketball operations who are both indeed more competent that Bounty Williams and Troy Weaver.
So the Pistons are in good hands for the moment.
