I lived there in 92 - 93, worked with Glen Woodall at the NWS Office. Livening on St. Paul is an experience I will never forget. A very rewarding experience of a life time.
Hi Dave, I don't remember you from when I was there '88 to '90 I think it was. Bob Thomas was the OIC. I returned some years later as a MOBEU, and Glen was the OIC. And, yes, I have fond memories of the island. I often thought it's not the end of the world but you can see it from there. Launching a weather balloon with a WSW wind was particularly challenging!
Dude this is so cool i cant believe you went there and saw all that cool crap. Strange you never encountered n9t one person in this video! Holy toledo!
I have a couple questions if ya don't mind. First off, is there a power grid on the island?? Second of all, are there polar bears on the island?? Thanks for taking the time to make this video. It's a beautiful place but I can't imagine living somewhere without trees.
Yes there is power, and i think it is diesel run but i am not 100% on that. I do not think polar bears get to that island because that part of the ocean does not freeze up with sea ice. Islands out on the chain do not freeze up like on the north slope.
The power "grid" ( if you may ) has diesel generation as well as wind generation. And the Arctic ice flow does come down to the island and surrounds it completely what seems like every other year.
I'm really curious since St Paul has a elephant seal population and other seals are there any great white shark's off the coast? I've been trying to Google it and even looked it up but there is no information on the subject! By chance would you know????
I am not 100 percent but I do not think great whites venture this far north. Lots of killer whales but the only actual shark I know of is the Salmon Shark.
Wow man. Brings back a crazy memory. I was there in Feb 1999. My boat dropped off two quitters. I had to skiff them into town from anchor. The folks at the store had never heard of someone who's last name started with "Mc".
The arctic fox was introduced to a lot of islands as a fur bearer for trapping. There are many things in Alaska that at one time of year looks like a nasty creature and the next month may be beautiful. An arctic fox with a thin summer coat laying in mud and eating on dead seal carcass is a nasty thing. A deep winter arctic fox with pure white fur and deep black eyes is beautiful. And nice or not, Alaska is what it is.
when i grow up im gonna move there then get a high paying online job so i can buy a lambo and get it shipped there somehow and i would buy a bunch of stuff to keep it clean too cuz lots of dirt road. id just be fun to show how much richer i am then them. only problem is they dont have higher octane fuel there so id have it ordered online
One of the best trips i have ever had the pleasure to go on. Thank you for the all of the hospitality that was shown to me.
Fried Gizzard Do they have internet connection or phone?
I loved your infromal video! Your narration was hilarious!
If you think about it it’s crazy that this island is in the same country as NYC
What an excellent video! Thanks!

How in the world did an arctic fox get on that island? I think they are beautiful. Why'd you call it a "nasty creature"??Dude, that wasn't very nice.
