Love the shot at 25:47. You are right about the canal memory. Even decades later it remains one of the most unique and beautiful trips of many. Your shots brought back the tranquility of the canal with the trees bordering and nothing but countryside to enjoy as you glide past. But my advice to the lone fisherman one day is still, "Bonjour! Don't eat the fish!"
One of the most clever designs I've used is the Farrier Trimaran mast step system. No crane needed...mind, a much shorter mast- nerve wracking all the same. I love the technical videos like these. Well done again...makes me long for the sailing season to return to the Great Lakes in May!
Another great video guys... and though I truly enjoyed the sights and sounds of the canals, I am happy you're heading back out into the deep... thanks for bring us along - again!
I’m loving that black Ruby Rose shirt Nick was wearing, I would absolutely buy that! Please put that on the merch page and take my money!!! Great to see Ruby Rose reassembled and back on the blue. Cheers from Minnesota!!
Bummer, I’ll keep me eyes peeled ! You guys do a great job and I love your videos. Thank you for sharing your life with us all and I look forward to seeing your journey towards a different boat and your future adventures! Thanks!
So glad to see that you got it up Nick (the mast - what else??) though it did look a tad scary. I've loved these canal videos, but it's cool to see you back on the ocean. I'm really looking forward to the La Rochelle video. Very happy memories for me from the summers of 1971 and 1972 when I spent time with my French pen friend and his family in the area at a holiday site in the village of Vandre. We had the best seafood dinner I have ever experienced in the small town of Surgeres. Then there was boating on the Venise Verte. Yes, it's one of my favourite locations in France too!
The hardest part of watching your series it that it is winter where we are and our boat is put away for the winter, it makes me miss being on the water! Thank you for this season you produced it was very interesting watching your journey thru France.
Ruby Rose is back in action !!! Nick/Terysa, when I worked at a boatyard we had to unstep/step masts with a hand crank crane with a triple luff block&tackle!! (oh lots of fun) Glad to see you guys in open water again! Fair winds and following seas Ruby Rose !
How much better the editing has become... I guess there has been gradual improvement over time but the little montage at the end made me realize it. Well done!
Was only able to watch your video today and what a pleasure! Lovely trip to La Rochelle and you can feel the enjoyment you both are going through reentering the ocean! Thanks for another great video and great way to start a winter’s evening in the UK !
Congrats on the end of your canal trip. Wonderful !!! I can't help but comment on what a beautiful couple you appear to be. Will be following along your journey as the episodes continue. Thanks much. Cheers!!!!
Well done you two, a superb adventure, beautifully filmed and edited, such a treat to travel with you through the wonders of RUclips. Looking forward to your next video. Nick.
The feeling when you get your mast back up after cruising for days with it on the cradle is a really good one! iOS’s magical to get that sail out and move along with the breeze! Really have enjoyed the canal trip!
Rainbow warrior was a nice finish to the vid, didn’t the French navy sink the original in NZ - time moves on, great to see that people applauded. It must have been something getting your mast back up after jousting it through the canals. I recall my half tonner and latterly my two sons tonner mounting the mast each new season. I think there is a medical trauma that covers this process. Measuring the bottle screw length helps before you demolish the mast. Maybe not as the mast might have grown. Glad your sailboat is back on the tidal water and what a lovely place to be in. There are so many sailing books on that region, but you will have all of those I expect.
Thanks Nick for the best intro camera work on RUclips...lol Also..I bet women all over the world would love to look as good as you do after “just waking up”.. Great job resetting the mast..prep work makes the job look easy...
Hey Nick! Morgan Monroe here. My wife and I have discussed it. We’ve discussed it over and over and over again. If you give us the name to that “film can reel hose caddy” will send you a 24 pack of Busch beer. LOL. Both of us have a background in the film industry and would absolutely love to have that on our boat. Keep up the great work you do, we are Ruby Rose addicts. Hahahaha!!!!!
Inspirational. Enjoyed all of the canal trip very much. We have a Centaur on the Hamble, and the two canals route to the Med is absolutely on the cards when we shortly/eventually go part retired. Lots of good lessons learned by you, and for us. Thanks to you both!!
But no bow thruster on a Centaur would mean hanging a few used car tyres bow to midships...not pretty, but practical. I guess we could spray them white??
Please tell Nick that random boat food looked delicious. Glad you guys are out of the canals and back to the blue. Until our adventures cross, fair winds and full sails. Jack and Billie
GREAT VIDEOS! Came across your channel by accident. Have watched some other sailing vids but none of them have really hooked me. 🤔 But having watched a few recent vids of yours, I decided to start from the beginning and binge the whole lot over the Christmas Hols! 😳 Good entertainment and learning stuff along the way. Feel like I’ve been to all the places myself now! Well done. Keep them coming.
Nice guys, probably should of had a quick chat to a rigger as it might have saved you some time and sweat!! Eg, have the mast on it's back so you lift from the front, and have a line from the bottom of the mast to help control when you can't reach the mast or to pass it to the boat!! Oh and don't try and open split pins to the tension is on the rig!!!
happy new year, you lovely people, thank you for last year and the canal adventure. much love and best wishes to you both for the next... and that ceremony... somewhere ;)
Geez... Your meal comprising 'random boat food' looks more substantial than my normal land-based offerings! And am looking forward to Episode 110 - from seeing the episode trailer it's an oxymoron to see Greenpeace's 'Rainbow Warrior' berthing in France considering what the French did to the original Rainbow Warrior in Auckland, New Zealand in July, 1985 (i.e. sunk/bombed by operatives of the French secret service)
17:00 I'm also excited to be seeing La Rochelle. I grew up in New Rochelle, NY which is a sister city of La Rochelle. La Rochelle was one of the last two cities held by the Protestant Huguenots in 1629 after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes which was passed in 1593 by King Henry the IV. The Edict allowed Protestants to live in France. By 1685 the Edict was revoked by King Louis XIV and it was no longer cool to live in France and not be Catholic. French Huguenot Protestants scattered around the globe and a group of them settled in a place North of NYC in 1688 and decided to call it New Rochelle. And now you know...the rest ...of the story.
@@sailingrubyrose Did all go well with restepping your mast? Yikes it seemed the upper framework of the crane lifting your mast was buckling. I assume they did not put it in backwards. I saw you were monitoring and participating in the operation.
Love La Rochelle. Been there a number of times during motorbiking tours and also caravaning. Never sailing though. The campsite is, as the French do well, almost on the side of the harbour and the harbour ferry provides a service back an forth (unless you forget the time due to having too many pints and miss the last one back in the evening, like we did once. Then you have to walk around the harbour. But even then, it's not far).
Sailing Yacht Ruby Rose random question guys but is there any reason why I see more and more vlogs in Greece in regards to boat purchases ? It seems there’s literally hundreds there all for sale. I have been noticing the last while that it’s the same location where everyone is going ?
2 things: When the flowers first appear on your basil, pinch them off, it will make the rest of the plant bush out a bit, you can throw the flowers in the pot to cook. #2: Goodness me Terysa, you are beautiful first thing in the morning!
Glad to see the blue water back under your hull - though I've added doing the canals to my bucket list I'm not sure my draft would work as it is 5' and I recall you saying you were close with yours tucked up. Also love to know what you are typically paying for your marina stays - it has gotten very expensive here lately it seems.
Very enjoyable episode folks. I too have stressed over stepping my mast. Vision of it slipping out of the sling and crashing through the deck! Question, if I may: Why did you not leave your mast on the hard while canal cruising? Perhaps you weren't comfortable with security at the marina? Cost? Regards, Al in Vancouver, C&C 35.

Fantastic journey through the canals. Thank you for taking us along. One question, how did RR bottom fair with the canals being fresh water and all? Will you need to clean it now you are back in salt water?
I bet the engine was glad to be back in clean salt water after the mud and algae of the canals. Too much stress for me trying to ship the mast. Glad everything went ok.
