I hope you'll enjoy this quick tour of the Oslo City Hall! Make sure to look me up if you need a local guide in Oslo: norwaywithpal.com/oslo-local-tour-guide/
Also, I filmed this episode with a Canon XA50 camcorder that I borrowed. I was curious about testing out a new camera, and I have to say I was very pleased by image quality and how easy it was to use compared to a DSLR. See the camcorder her: amzn.to/3DRomWW
I’ve bookmarked your guide website. I hope to visit Norway in the next year or two.
@@barbaram5214 thanks a lot! Tusen takk! I hope you'll make it over here some day
Dear Pal, thanks for a very good narrative of the Oslo City Hall. I got interested in the city hall when I was reading a 1953 book by a Kannada author belonging to Southern India , where he had described this beautiful hall of your wonderful city. Wishing you the Best.
Hi there, that's an interesting connection! Thanks for watching the episode
Just had some Stabbur Makrell just got nostalgic
Yum! I love makrell i tomat :P

Thanks, Pål, that was wonderful
Glad you enjoyed it! Tusen takk Sue :)
City Hall is an absolute gorgeous building. We were so lucky to get a tour of it when we were in Oslo
Hei Tom! Glad you got a chance to visit the City Hall. I just got married there the other day :) One of my favorite buildings in Oslo
I just remember when it was built it absolutely stunning regrettably video shots do no do it justice you have to actually have to be there.....ah maybe next year.
Hei M G, you are right, video shots does not do it justice! It needs to be experience in person. I hope you'll make it here next year
Thanks for create and share!!
You welcome! Thanks for watching
Wonderful tour! Takk
You welcome, thanks for coming along! Tusen takk
Nice to watch your videos again, we miss Norway and Oslo. It was an amazing trip for us and with you we are traveling again.
Thanks Magoyo! I'm glad you had a good time here :)
I’ll be in Oslo in September from the 10th
Enjoy!
Congratulations !!
Tusen Takk!
awesome!
very nice tour of this beautifully decorated city hall. You are a knowledgeable person and a perfect guide. When an opportunity to visit will show itself it would be wonderful to have you as a guide.
Tusen takk Alex! I'd love to show you Oslo if you ever make it over here
So great to have you back! Hope to be able to visit Oslo again soon and get to discover more of Norway! ☺️
Thank you! Feels good to be back as well :D I hope you'll make it over here again soon 😎
First of all, great to see you back in a new video mate 🇳🇴 Amazed how many details it is around buildings like this. I had no idea. And I have been there more than once, haha. Always glad to learn new stuff like this. and I'm really glad to see your productions continue to evolve. Love the amount of b-roll and your nice VoiceOver. Thank you 👏🏻
Thanks Thomas! And I hardly scratched the surface of all the details ;)
Don't know if you noticed any change to the image quality of this video? I filmed it with a Canon XA50 camcorder that I borrowed. It was an interesting experience. Far less time spent adjusting the camera and re-shooting shots. Run and gun as they say. I'm gonna buy "something" new during Black Friday.. might be a camcorder :o
@@norwaywithpal When you mention it, the picture quality looked much more clear and natural. I guess the camera lack IBIS, since I saw some micro jitters now and then (not a big deal) but worth looking into if you want to invest in a Camcorder. I don't know what the future holds for this lineup, but I see sony invest a lot in their small cinema line. A camcorder is what people in the TV industry run and gun shooting with, so I guess it serves a good purpose. For me, that is not an option yet, because of its size. But one day, without a doubt.
@@tshansen yea some jitters for sure. I guess I would have liked to try out a camera with IBIS as well, to compare. What I like is the smooth transition when the light changes. That does not really work well with my XT-3..
@@norwaywithpal The IBIS works great in my camera, and when I match it with a stabilised lense... really nice for handheld shots. I bet there is a built in ND filter on the camcorder? Do you know anything about this? That makes the transitions like you talk about much better without adjusting settings in the camera.
@@tshansen Yep there is a built in ND filter. But I'm not sure if that play a big role on that. If I have the aperture on automatic with my xt-3 the image will "flick" when the light strength changes. Maybe on all dslrs..? That did not happen with the camcorder, so I could move from one light situation to another without doing any adjustments
When I was at the Univ. of Oslo we had a desert party in the city hall-it was great. I suggest Rick Steves include it on his tours. Your u-tube was a excellent representation of the city hall. Keep up the good work Pal. Tusen takk
That sounds like a fun experience John! I'll tell Rick ;) Thanks for watching the video
Welcome back Pal great to see you ^_^ , we enjoyed this video and have learnt a lot about the city hall and its magnificent paintings and history. thanks a lot again! 🤞😀
Thank you, tusen takk! It's good to be back. I'm glad you could learn something, that's one of my main goals with this. All the best, Pål
Very impressive! Thank you! Enjoyed your explanations about the hall!
You are welcome! Thanks for watching
Hurra for a new video! My wife’s parents were married there in the 1950s. Why? Well, they were teenagers and my mother in law was pregnant if you get my understanding!! 😂😂
But it is a beautiful building with a lot of nice art. If my memory serves me correctly, there are Vikings type paintings or carvings outside on the backside where you ended your tour? And one is of Fenrir (or Fenris) which is the name of your dog. He was a puppy when I visited there in 2018 and it’s because of the carving on the City Hall building that we decided to name him that.
Takk for den nye videoen! 🇳🇴🇳🇴
Hei Stout Out, tusen takk, thanks a lot for checking out the video! I will actually get married in the city hall myself, sometime next year :D Can't think of a better place to do it.
Yep there are wood carvings from the Norse Mythology on each side of the wings when you walk towards the main entrance. haha cool that you named your dog after Fenrir/Fenrisulven. He must be a fierce dog to live up to that name ;)
@@norwaywithpal I feel silly now because you did show them! I had started writing my comment and missed them! 😂😂🤣 But at least I have watched it again. This time with my wife and she loves it too!
Fenrir is not as fierce as the one from the mythology. He’s really a sweet boy and there is no need for Tyr to place his arm in Fenrir’s mouth.
Congratulations on your upcoming marriage!!!
@@stoutoutandaboutwithanorwe300 haha no worries that you did not spot them initially. I often tend to skip around in youtube-videos
Thanks for showing the video to your wife. Give Fenrir a pat on the head from me :)
@@norwaywithpal Hei Hei! Nice to see a NWP video in my inbox today. Those frescos are beyond spectacular. I can't wait to see them up close "one day"! Norway is still on my bucket list. And congratulations on your upcoming wedding!! 💕Best wishes, Amy v.
@@vanme739 Hei Amy! I hope all is well with you. We were fortunate to have some really good fresco painters in Norway in the 30s-40s :D Thanks for checking out my video 😄
As a respected female who works both in technology and classical music venues, I find it DEPLORABLE that the prostitute, pimp and client all had statues on the building 🤬🤬
And the naked women/concubines in other pictures/tapestries is disturbing to me to say the least! You COULD HAVE passed over those things or if you wanted reality/accuracy you could have said "something" - "of course this doesn't reflect on Norway today."
That may be "historically accurate" but does not represent Norway today unless now hidden from view - corruption.
I know corruption has entered Norway, but *I* do not support the usage of women in that way, corruption or not.
I am definitely NOT a prude but believe firmly in women having a choice just as men do and having men like you also espousing that viewpoint as well.
Hi Jessica, you are entitled to your opinion. The art piece has its inspiration from a novel named Albertine, written by painter Christian Krogh. An important novel which reminds of us the past and social issues back then. Same as the artwork does. I don’t see it as my task to censor Oslo in a way that it appeals to a specific group. As a tour guide I present what I see, but I usually refrain from giving me personal opinion. If I did I would spend all day answering people who disagree, and I simply don’t have the time and the energy for that.
Btw, check out the novel! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albertine_(Krohg_novel)
Er du offisiell Osloguide ?

Hei Pål! I have made a commitment to myself to fulfill my life long dream of going to Norway. I have to get past this next year first. I, unfortunately, have to have a total knee replacement done. Once I mend from that surgery and am able to walk again, I will be booking my trip. I hope to see you sometime in the near future. I would love to have you guide me around Oslo and maybe sample some authentic kjøttkaker! 😄
Hei Kristin! Thanks a lot, tusen takk for watching the episode. I hope for a quick recovery for your knee so that you make it over here. I know a good place for kjøttkaker in Oslo ;)
Thank you, this is very interesitng,..I am hoping to visit Oslo next year so I will go and check the City Hall for sure!
You welcome Aneta, thanks for watching. I hope you'll be able to visit next year :)
Amazing video, this will be rly useful for me!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the video !!! I walked by the City Hall in the evening🌉🌌 almost one year ago❄⛄, when I visited Oslo. However, I was unware of the statues and what lied within. Next time, we'll go early morning to admire the outside and the inside🤩! Tusen Tusen Takk !!! 😊🍁🍂
Hei Filip! Glad you had the chance to go by the City Hall. There are so many interesting aspects of this building. I hope you'll make it back to explore further. Tusen takk for watching the episode 🥰
