Great video Whitney. You must have great internet. It took me two days and a night to get my last video up here. I love making them, but getting them on RUclips is not too much fun. Amazed at all the gorgeous fabrics your friend gave to you. What a blessing!
We went from regular internet to the fiber optic earlier this year (they finished burying the fiber optic cables in our area earlier in the year). My upload times went from 4-10 hours (depending on how well the internet was running) to less than 10 minutes. It was shocking how much faster my stuff uploads now! I get the frustration. I used to have to cancel and restart uploads all the time!
Lifting Pins & Needles recently did a good video on making a V neck shirt. She does a little bit of hand basting which is my favorite way of making sure of fussy details. Pins can distort a precise match. Love your videos of matching patterns with current looks.
There is truly only one word for this video...... AWESOME. Instantly went to your Pinterest page and save several of your looks. You are going to be one busy woman in 2020. Thanks for being our inspiration.
Instead of lining or underlining wool slacks make a pant liner which you will be able to wash after each wearing. I do this and love it. I have used Louise Cutting's One Seam Pant with Ambiance.
Classic styles with wonderful fabrics. Great pairings with patterns. There is so much I want to sew, where to begin. Your off with a good plan and great fabrics, such talent to make it all work. It would be so helpful to see a v-neck shirt sew along. Thanks again for so much inspiration!
Hi, at one point in my life, I sewed all my clothing, as well as many pieces for my children. I am short 4’11. Other than short, I have not heard you mention a number. ? I have been sewing or altering my clothes most of my life. My grandmother used to have me cutting and sewing quilt squares at 5/6 on the old singer. Watching you reminds me of happier days. Hugs. “Dittos”!!! I LOVED my saddle seat dittos in high school in the 70’s, they fit so well! They were high waisted though, I don’t know how they’d look mid rise
Happy New Year Whitney !! Thank you for sharing pattern companies, I didn't realize just how many are out there. I have lost a lot of weight so now looking to add some new great basic patterns to my stash.
Loved this video!! I’ve commented before (still true) that you have an amazing on screen presence and your sense of fashion is wonderful and accessible. Thanks for sharing your talents and skills with us. Hope you’re enjoying the time with your family and happy new year!
Thankyou so much for the lesson in putting looks together and your process of how you choose patterns. I feel like i took a course with this video. Priceless
Great ideas and reviews!! I love the wide leg and bell-bottom styles a lot-really dig the plaid pants with the jacket, very cool!! Also the teal Duchess Meghan looks-and the fit and flare skirt she had on-- very nice. Sexy as well, without being obvious! :+) Think I saw the top of Gidget's back...LOL!! Thank you for sharing your time and home with us all. Great inspiration!! I too, love the animal prints... I definitely want to make a "French" jacket. Very cool. Have a great week!
Hi Whitney~I have enjoyed your videos and super enjoyed this one! I purchased the Pants New Look 6643 and can't wait to dive in. Would love for you to do a sew along as I have not made pants with a fly.
I can definitely do a sew along on that pattern. I do, however, have a tutorial on my channel on how to sew a fly zipper. It’s under the playlist tab and then under the tutorials tab!
Whitney do a sew a long for the French jacket and the wool slacks -- I like lined everything and I've thought about underlining pants too. Your videos are really informative and more structured clothing on RUclips would be great.
The traditional French jacket might be a little too time consuming for the channel, but I’ve just updated the description box that includes some online class options to do it the traditional way. I could probably do a cheater one, though! I can definitely do a wool slack for one of the sew alongs this year!
@@TomKatStitchery That's true Whitney and I also own Angela Wolf's jacket class from pattern review. I just haven't made a jacket! I really like the wool slack idea.
Thanks for doing this type of video again, Whitney. I made a list of the new patterns I need to get :) I already have several Love Notions patterns, and they are all on my 2020 to-make list. I just downloaded their newly updated Laundry Day Tee pattern, with full bust for all sizes :) I'm anxious to see how the new pattern format differs from the original...
I just downloaded that one as well! I think the armscye was raised a bit. I never made up the original version, but I am excited to make up this new one!
Lining trousers ... look at your husband’s suits. Men’s trousers are lined/underlined to the knee - helps with fit, comfort, crotch wrinkling and wear. Lining makes everything feel better (I’m a slip wearer - always!).
I LOVE this video and hope you keep doing them!! I think we are body twins. Not sure how tall you are (I’m 5’2”) but everything you said about your body is exactly like mine! I’m a larger busted (large C to DD cup depending on the time of the month), inverted triangle with wide back but narrow shoulders (usually do a broad back adjustment but have to pull the shoulder seams in tighter so things are not falling off my shoulders). Almost non-existent hips/bum (have to size down usually 3 sizes to my hips). I have no waist shaping (not sure about yours - I might have missed it if you talked about it) and my fav body part is my legs and love to show them off (up to the top of the knee cap but no higher cause I’m 48 :-)). I LOVED all the looks but really loved the last look and now I want to make it for my ‘fake life’ cause truly I have no ‘real life’ events that would warrant that outfit. Please keep making these vids - you are now my fav RUclipsr!! :-) !! ~ Deb
What a lovely thing to read! We ARE body twins! I’m also 5’2” and all the things you listed describe me to a tee! I’m so glad you enjoy this type of video because I really love doing them. We should sew a few things this year for our “imaginary” life because we can and then wear this stuff to the grocery store 😂.
Happy New Year! I want to do a French jacket, also. I already have the pattern, but no fabric. I bought the pattern Sarah Gunn recommended for it, this is my year! Love the cami, too. I may challenge myself to do jeans this year.
Woo hoo! I think there is an instagram challenge going on during January for doing a French jacket (I think Julie Starr is one of the hosts for it). This will be our year 😂.
Happy New Year to you Whitney! I loved this video - well I love all your videos but this one was delicious. You make it all so easy for us! I'm now working on a VERY old Sewing Workshop pattern. It's been on my cutting table with a few fabric options throughout the whole holiday. It's the TeaGarden T which is a fantastic pattern. It's literally 2 pieces. The second piece being a gusset but the whole front, back and sleeve is one origami-looking pattern piece. I can't wait to see how this turns out. The only problem with it that I can see so far it that it features a grown on sleeve making it appear a bit bat-wingy and with a large bust I never think that's a great look. We'll have to see how bat-wingy it really is once all sewn up :) I look forward to seeing you again soon. I bet your daughter loved her new anorak and I look forward to seeing it too!
I’m so glad you enjoyed this one! I agree that typically a closer fit in the bust area is usually better for larger busts, but it’s hard to tell how a garment will fit until it’s all sewn up (muslin or otherwise). I’ve been very pleased with the Sewing Workshop patterns I’ve sewn up so I hope yours is a good one!
Hi, love the outfit suggestions. I’m an hourglass shape. However, v-necks, scoop necks are mush more flattering for me given my bust size. I also have a short torso - I think there might be 3 inches between my waist and bust. 🙄 it’s much more flattering when my pants hit between 1-1 1/2 in below my waist. The wider, curved waist bands are also more flattering. I’m 5’ 5” but still think that a pair of pants that’s hemmed to wear they’re supposed to be makes you look longer and leaner - puddling pants are one of my pet peeves. I even try to tell myself it’s ok to wear pants that are just puddling slightly because no one notices this stuff but me. Can’t do it. Lol
😂 it sounds like we have some body similarities! V- necks and scoop necks are my go to necklines as well because of my bust. I’ve got a pair of “lower” rise jeans (2” below natural waist) on my sewing table now and can’t wait to get them finished!
I've underlined the front of wool pants, or to the knee front and back. There is an old, very old, Threads magazine article on making an Armani pair of pants and they are underlined to the knee. I make a version of a menswear waistband on pants and this is the only way to line wool pants. It's just too pita to do it otherwise.
I need your help. What do you recommend a beginner with a blazer? I am also heavy, so want one that makes me look slimming. I am just so afraid to buy a pattern and to have it come out not fitting my body shape or just not being completed because it is to difficult to complete.
If you are a beginner wanting to tackle a blazer I would recommend the Jasika Blazer by Closet Case Patterns. First, she has a very reasonably priced class you can purchase that will hold your hand through the entire sewing process and it comes with cup sizes to make fitting much easier. Also, because she is an independent pattern company, the customer service and help with their patterns is great. It’s a really well drafted pattern (it’s my favorite) and it could be easily changed a bit if you wanted a longer or shorter jacket depending on personal preferences!
This video content is excellent with great stylish but sensible selections. Really inspired me! By the way where do you send your pdf patterns to be printed?
It’s the Chanel jacket. It’s called the French jacket because Chanel is a French house and it could be copyright infringement for some of these classes to call it the Chanel jacket so it’s just become the French jacket.
I have a very small frame but my bust is larger so it completely throws the pattern off. I’m a RTW size 2.... please help us with fitting and full bust adjustments
