Looks great. I was thinking there should have been another support beam from sidebto side on the door, between the two windows. I guess I should have finished watching before commenting. Lil Its beautiful!

Nice work. I want to do this on a spartan mansion for moving lawn equipment in and out.

From a fellow Airstream owner and not handy at all... I'm so glad I've found your channel and love the way you share your art! Simply beautiful

What a cool client man! Like Chip Foose once said “you’re as good as your client allows you to be” It seems like you have a blank canvas there to use for you creativity man! So cool!!

Cool to watch the fabrication. Not knowing any better, I thought many of the parts were swappable throughout the years and the door hatch from AirStream would fit all of the older models. Good to know I didn't make that mistake!

Ive always thought of having a custom built 1975 airstream toy hauler to tow behind my 1975 caprice and was really excited to see this build... but its been a year and no more updates. 😢

Watched a few of your Miller garage videos on airstrem rebuilds . There great , a lot of very info . Im currently rebuilding 1976 argosy and converting it to toy hauler / portable hunt camp. Upgraded floor plywood from 1/2 to 3/4 plywood . Wondering where to source aluminum c channels for perimeter to fit 3/4 floor

Nice work Ian. I'm thinking about doing this to my 2015 Flying Cloud.

Thanks! You could probably purchase the entire door assembly from Airstream. We can't go that route with the older trailers being 6 inches narrower.

newwer arirstreams had the option from the factory older airstreams require a custom chassis or 16 on center reinforced chassis its not a diy project unless yourba millwright or a fabricator. your also looking at 12 to 25k upgrade

@@cdavey9563 Fabricator and general contractor. I'm wanting access to load a canoe or kayak. I'm turning my 2015 Airstream into more of an off road/off the grid camper.

Any chance you could share your source for the extrusion that you use as the frame for the door?

Awesome! I've been thinking about doing something similar as we plan a purchase/conversion for a mobile kitchen. Would make loading the hood/appliances for the build as well as food once we're up and running a lot easier than the side door. One question: did you use a brake to make the "fold" in the exterior sheet of aluminum or do you have a method for folks that might not have one to make it look that clean?

Ian. Great fabrication. I have a question on weight distribution. As you rear load an Airstream, the chance of trailer sway increases significantly. Is the client going to invest in a high end anti-sway hitch? Thoughts?

Thanks! Correct, we are aiming to deal with the problem in a few ways. Building the trailer with more weight, solar equipment, batteries, etc in the very front. We are also looking at options to add ballast forward of the axle line. The frame is rectangular tube and very strong so we can add more weight that usual. And yes, a good anti sway system is a must as well. We will aim to get it balanced before that but in addition to be on the safe side!
