I can't imagine what this must be like on the big screen in theaters. If anyone has experienced this film in the theaters, please describe if you can. Awesome, cinematography.
I saw it in 19 7 8 m it's one of the best films I've ever seen on the big screen...Terrance Malick, Nestor Almendros and Ennio Morricone...cinematic genius!!
It has a dream-like narrative, and the characters are as if caught in a dream. This director has an almost 'Buddhist' detachment from the characters, meaning that he is non-judgemental, and encourages the audience to simply observe them ... meanwhile, time moves on, the rest of the world goes on, indifferently, and there's a gentle melancholy in this - 'all things must pass away' as a priest might say. He's very poetic.
It was awe-inspiring, comparable to my experience of 2001, which I also saw on the big screen. But I'm still mad at the critics of the time. They basically dismissed it as just a bunch of pretty pictures with nothing behind it. But I *cared* about these characters and their world, and I was moved by their tragic fates. So the critics were totally right and totally wrong at the same time.
La Vi hace ocho años y hoy la vuelvo a ver q hermosa de verdad hoy la Vi porque televisión y no me acordaba del nombre y me sorprendió porque nunca pensé que la pasarían después de buscarla tanto... bendiciones
My understanding is that the original release, though shot in 35 mm, was released in 70mm with 6 track Dolby sound (for you young' uns, that was the crème de la crème of sound before THX) in major theatres...I can only dream of what that experience must have been like given that we didn't have home computers then and our TVs were on average, never bigger than 36 inches on the diagonal. And its true, as beautiful as a Blue Ray or super Hi-Def version is going to look and sound on a home theatre, its not going to be the same as the massive screen of a theatre.
Love this movie... but frustrating plot hole. These two knuckleheads couldn't make sure they didn't go touchy feeley for just a few months to make the charade worked? I mean... they would only be set for life.
Its human nature and that is how they got caught in the end. That is the part of the whole maya i.e their fate. They had to get touchy to get caughtm it was what fate has in store for them. This is as real as life gets
The girl narrator's bizzarly strange accent was always a huge distraction. Isn't she a Chicago street kid? Why does she have some kind of bad New York/New Orleans mix of an accent.
I think it works for the film as it contrasts just how out of place she is in this rugged terrain. Her "streetness" lends a visceral layer of humanity to her rural surroundings.
@UCUFjWJYfBf9CvxxhGbmYncA Actually, Linda Manz passed away yesterday... She was definitely from NYC. Such a magical and haunting presence - including her voice -, never forgotten for four decades... Very, very sad news indeed. Do RIP, Angel. extratv.com/2020/08/14/days-of-heaven-star-linda-manz-dead-at-58/
One of the most beautiful films ever made. Bravo Terrence Malick.

@@heinrichvon I’ve heard this movie was based on bible story. It is a biblical movie.
Happiness is a fleeting moment. This movie and characters captured that feeling
I remember driving by the filming location as a kid and seeing the airplanes.
Just how handsome and charismatic is Shepard and Gere.
awesome

Nestor Almendros please ... enough is enough .
2:02 Damn! let's give it up for that sapling!
...YOU AGAIN! :) DBM. England.
Terrence malik - life goes on

Unbelievably, the original master for this was lost or destroyed
"He knows"
Brooke Adams is beautiful in this.

That's not a plot hole, that's the point of the film.
The point of the film is that nature wins out. You can’t hide from or beat nature.
It's because they're young. Consequences are secondary to libido.
