Filian is literally an S-tier VTuber and her collab with Doki had something like 20k simultaneous viewers. People can try to cancel that all they like, it already happened, it's a battle she's won before it even started. And of course on AI art again, you can't put the genie back in the bottle. AI art is not going away. Setting up a separate category for it as opposed to traditional art is literally the most anybody can do to contain the flood of millions of AI-generated images created every day.
Gotta agree. It's better to at least have a thing in place to separate the AI from the genuine art rather than having to deal with figuring out what is true and fake.
This is a totally unnecessary nitpick but "Traditional art" usually refers to art that is made with traditional, physical, real world mediums, like painting with real oil, drawing with graphite, sculpture etc. There is digital art by humans that is not necessarily traditional. If you wish to differentiate it from AI, the best terms to use would be "human art" "real art" "handmade art" "non-AI" art I guess.

Here is a thought: In a society where nobody can do better, where no apology is ever accepted, where every perceived infraction condemns you for life... what is people's incentive to ever do better? I mean by giving an AI tag instead of putting AI art in the same tag is a way of promoting ethical use of AI no? Knowing what's AI and what is not is actually a much better step than just ignoring it. Crazy how some can't use their brain to understand ethical use. Ain't about pro or against AI, it's gonna get used anyway having a different tag in itself is supporting artist by not mixing AI into it.
There was a whole argument on "having a tag will encourage it more!" and I think your response is the best. Even if it isn't encouraged, having it filtered out of the original art tag helps to separate the AI art from the "Organic art"
I hate AI with my every fiber of being, but as long as it don't hurt anyone, I'd turn the other cheek. Just keep it to yourself and not bragging about AI, nor putting it into competition, and don't advertise for it, you're good. Something Twitter will never understand.

I hate the lose job arguments. You can say that about almost anything and any new development in industries. I suppose people dont order online or at automated and self checkout because they want to save people's jobs.
It doesn't help that it's not a single sum game. For example I used AI to generate my D&D character art because I am not an artist. Does this mean I have deprived a real artist of a job? No. Because before I had AI I didn't have character pictures at all. I'm not depriving anyone of a job.

AI automation to crush the supply side of labor is a fact of life. It's going to happen, not just with art, but generally across a wide range of fields. Don't underestimate it. It will take rote labor out of even fields like medicine and law within a few decades, if not within one. The number of people who want to work but can't in these fields due to labor supply will result in a flood of labor. Hard as it was to find a job during the '09 housing crash or COVID lockdowns, expect something harsher than that. It's not about "supporting it" or not, it's such a massive productivity increase that resisting it is like trying to resist the industrial revolution. Unwinnable. If people are going to spend energy on it, it should be to figure out where we fit into such a world, because there's nothing anybody on twitter (or in most governments for that matter) can do to stop it from happening. It's too competitive. Though most western countries are projected to shrink based on birth rate, so maybe the labor supply change will prevent a total collapse from that.

Yes some artists may lose their jobs because they can't compete with ai, I mean the person in the video is good example. I'm not surprised they feel threatened by AI art, because if I'm being honest their art is on the mediocre side. I usually don't see the people who are talented artists being nearly as worried about AI art. Heck I recently just bought some art prints from some very talented artists, because they are clearly step above AI art.

I’m multiracial, and dealt with racism before. It’s a topic that gets under my skin easily, but, as fucked up as the joke was, it’s just that. A joke. My mouth did drop when I heard it, as I didn’t expect it. But just like people who joke about 9/11, the Holocaust, etc, they don’t intend to bring harm (most of the time). I definitely joke about racism to my friends of color, and white friends. We all know that it’s a joke. And that’s all that clip was: a joke. We don’t need an apology, it’s just a joke.

Because yeah, AI art sucks and there are a ton of concerns to be had about image-generating AI, HOWEVER, if Filian didnt include a separate tag for AI art, then I imagine a ton of the stuff tagged as Art would just be AI generated stuff rather than actual art, so really the separation is arguably Anti-AI art really because it promotes actual art.
As an artist myself, I really wish this AI pearl clutching would cease. Firstly it going to happen, no matter how much we cry about it. Second, I see not enought a difference between the ethical quandry that is learning from other artists to create your own style and work and the AI doing it. The only discernable difference is that the AI will use math and pixels to come up with an image (or whatever algorithms it will work off of, and it scrubs the internet for its inspiration. Where we scrub real life combined and onspired by other works we've seen which is influenced by our own life experiences and media consumption. I dont see a difference here other than where the referential information is collected.
It's a clever tactic, naming some mathematical process this way, but the mechanisms that we use to learn how to draw by looking at art is completely different from the processes of downloading images, processing them, and incorporating them into a series of matrices that'll spit out similar images when you give it the right words. Although it seems similar at a glance, that's exactly what the execs and the techbros want from you. It's a lot more like plagiarizing than just learning how different people draw things, in theory (how it works on paper) and in practice (how it's used to steal images without any consent or notice) There's a good reason a ton of artists want to know when their art is being used to fuel generative AI, and why this never came up with humans looking at art made by other humans for inspiration (and even then, it did come up from time to time, it was called plagiarism)
I had a similar argument in RUclips comments to the 7:50 statement... person argued how games make people violent, or more susceptible to violent acts and mentioned several games including Pokémon, GTA, and I can't even remember the third most memorable as they almost all their "examples" were extremely outlandish (like Pokémon); they further stated how those that love playing Pokémon would also enjoy animal fights... I argued that playing Pokémon doesn't make a kid want to get dogs and put them in a ring... they then tried to back track stating how they never mentioned dogs, and provided an absurdly long statement trying to amend their original statement and a bunch of other bs stuff; I still believe it is an appropriate example as Pokémon are basically pets you train, bond with, and fight beside, the near exact same with dogs despite not all of them fighting/hunting next to their owners.
we don't need to speculate, scientific studies have already shown that, in effect, games act as an outlet for violent tendencies more than a source for it. What studies showed was that puzzle games, the games that you'd naively think are probably neutral towards people, are actually very good at developing spatial and problem solving skills. CoD sorts of shooters are good at developing reaction times and quick thinking. What may actually be a minor problem is different "modes" of thinking (what, you thought I'd remember the proper scientific term? fat chance), which take time to switch naturally. You know how after watching a superhero movie your kid is going around with their arms flared out, as if flying around, and then punching things? Their imagination is engaged by the movie, and they're playing pretend, and they're in superhero combat mode. There's some violence in that. "Violent" videogames will probably involve a violence-focused mental mode, which young kids could carry with them through their next few minutes if they are not made aware of it and reminded that they aren't a counter-terrorist any more.

As an artist myself, I totally agree with your hot take about AI art--like when you become popular enough as an influencer, it's going to be impossible to cull the AI art because people are gonna inevitably do it anyway. So I do think having that tag is actually really beneficial for her community since, like you said, they can just use the actual art tag to find the real art and the AI stuff gets filtered out. Whether she supports the use of AI or not is up to her honestly, but at the moment I don't really see a problem with how she handles it. I think it's just another thing people are finding excuses to bash her with without bothering to use their brains and think about it first.

People have been losing jobs due to advances in technology since some dude invented the wheel, I don't know why these people are acting as if this was new. Even if we just completely gave up on AI, something else will pop up that will again make people lose jobs, just as it has been since the dawn of mankind. This is just my guesswork, but I think the real reason people are only so vocal against AI because it's also hitting artists instead of just people who work in factories or do simple jobs in offices.

This is a totally unnecessary nitpick but "Traditional art" usually refers to art that is made with traditional, physical, real world mediums, like painting with real oil, drawing with graphite, sculpture etc. There is digital art by humans that is not necessarily traditional.
If you wish to differentiate it from AI, the best terms to use would be "human art" "real art" "handmade art" "non-AI" art I guess.

AI automation to crush the supply side of labor is a fact of life. It's going to happen, not just with art, but generally across a wide range of fields. Don't underestimate it. It will take rote labor out of even fields like medicine and law within a few decades, if not within one. The number of people who want to work but can't in these fields due to labor supply will result in a flood of labor. Hard as it was to find a job during the '09 housing crash or COVID lockdowns, expect something harsher than that.
It's not about "supporting it" or not, it's such a massive productivity increase that resisting it is like trying to resist the industrial revolution. Unwinnable.
If people are going to spend energy on it, it should be to figure out where we fit into such a world, because there's nothing anybody on twitter (or in most governments for that matter) can do to stop it from happening. It's too competitive.
Though most western countries are projected to shrink based on birth rate, so maybe the labor supply change will prevent a total collapse from that.

I’m multiracial, and dealt with racism before. It’s a topic that gets under my skin easily, but, as fucked up as the joke was, it’s just that. A joke. My mouth did drop when I heard it, as I didn’t expect it. But just like people who joke about 9/11, the Holocaust, etc, they don’t intend to bring harm (most of the time). I definitely joke about racism to my friends of color, and white friends. We all know that it’s a joke. And that’s all that clip was: a joke. We don’t need an apology, it’s just a joke.

true i agree, AI itself is not the bad thing but the way its used, if the AI creators have full license and consent to use the art they train the AI with, there should nothing be wrong about it, its just a new tool and people are afraid of it since they think they will lose their jobs but then again others will gain new jobs since the AI doesnt create art themself it still has an operator and if it comes to comercial use, no company will be able to use AI art that they dont have full license of, so its mainly an ethical thing of how the person who uses the AI and the one that creates it use it and with what material they use it but then there are already lawsuits against these illigal trained AIs and its only a matter of time till we get laws that make stealing from Artists with AI impossible and will create a more ethical environment for AI to be used

Because yeah, AI art sucks and there are a ton of concerns to be had about image-generating AI, HOWEVER, if Filian didnt include a separate tag for AI art, then I imagine a ton of the stuff tagged as Art would just be AI generated stuff rather than actual art, so really the separation is arguably Anti-AI art really because it promotes actual art.

As an artist myself, I really wish this AI pearl clutching would cease. Firstly it going to happen, no matter how much we cry about it. Second, I see not enought a difference between the ethical quandry that is learning from other artists to create your own style and work and the AI doing it. The only discernable difference is that the AI will use math and pixels to come up with an image (or whatever algorithms it will work off of, and it scrubs the internet for its inspiration. Where we scrub real life combined and onspired by other works we've seen which is influenced by our own life experiences and media consumption.
I dont see a difference here other than where the referential information is collected.
It's a clever tactic, naming some mathematical process this way, but the mechanisms that we use to learn how to draw by looking at art is completely different from the processes of downloading images, processing them, and incorporating them into a series of matrices that'll spit out similar images when you give it the right words.
Although it seems similar at a glance, that's exactly what the execs and the techbros want from you. It's a lot more like plagiarizing than just learning how different people draw things, in theory (how it works on paper) and in practice (how it's used to steal images without any consent or notice)
There's a good reason a ton of artists want to know when their art is being used to fuel generative AI, and why this never came up with humans looking at art made by other humans for inspiration (and even then, it did come up from time to time, it was called plagiarism)

I had a similar argument in RUclips comments to the 7:50 statement... person argued how games make people violent, or more susceptible to violent acts and mentioned several games including Pokémon, GTA, and I can't even remember the third most memorable as they almost all their "examples" were extremely outlandish (like Pokémon); they further stated how those that love playing Pokémon would also enjoy animal fights... I argued that playing Pokémon doesn't make a kid want to get dogs and put them in a ring... they then tried to back track stating how they never mentioned dogs, and provided an absurdly long statement trying to amend their original statement and a bunch of other bs stuff; I still believe it is an appropriate example as Pokémon are basically pets you train, bond with, and fight beside, the near exact same with dogs despite not all of them fighting/hunting next to their owners.
we don't need to speculate, scientific studies have already shown that, in effect, games act as an outlet for violent tendencies more than a source for it. What studies showed was that puzzle games, the games that you'd naively think are probably neutral towards people, are actually very good at developing spatial and problem solving skills. CoD sorts of shooters are good at developing reaction times and quick thinking.
What may actually be a minor problem is different "modes" of thinking (what, you thought I'd remember the proper scientific term? fat chance), which take time to switch naturally. You know how after watching a superhero movie your kid is going around with their arms flared out, as if flying around, and then punching things? Their imagination is engaged by the movie, and they're playing pretend, and they're in superhero combat mode. There's some violence in that. "Violent" videogames will probably involve a violence-focused mental mode, which young kids could carry with them through their next few minutes if they are not made aware of it and reminded that they aren't a counter-terrorist any more.

I noticed that reaction time bit when I was playing Planetside 2, as I would main a front line combat medic; my problem was when I would vent my frustrations in the game (workplace death threats and HR violations out the wazoo), by being wholly immersed in "the war", and eventually believing the opposing team would charge around the corner to get me while I am working... Just a curious bit I felt like sharing, as you spent the effort of formulating an extremely logical and thoughtful response :)

As an artist myself, I totally agree with your hot take about AI art--like when you become popular enough as an influencer, it's going to be impossible to cull the AI art because people are gonna inevitably do it anyway. So I do think having that tag is actually really beneficial for her community since, like you said, they can just use the actual art tag to find the real art and the AI stuff gets filtered out. Whether she supports the use of AI or not is up to her honestly, but at the moment I don't really see a problem with how she handles it. I think it's just another thing people are finding excuses to bash her with without bothering to use their brains and think about it first.
The tag is _the_ best solution, until lawmakers put restrictions on its use. Which, I hear, is happening soon (but, of course, only in the EU)

@@Unapologeticweeb Most of the problems seem to necessarily involve malicious or actively negligent humans rather than the tech by itself. Just like every other major, dual-use (civilian/military) technology. The remaining handful are far more serious than complaints about art on Twitter, though.
People have been losing jobs due to advances in technology since some dude invented the wheel, I don't know why these people are acting as if this was new. Even if we just completely gave up on AI, something else will pop up that will again make people lose jobs, just as it has been since the dawn of mankind.
This is just my guesswork, but I think the real reason people are only so vocal against AI because it's also hitting artists instead of just people who work in factories or do simple jobs in offices.
