I welcome Suzanne Fortier as McGill's new principal. I hope she will do a good job in making McGill alumni feel deeply about McGill. In my experience, that is not the case. Also, this whole idea of Canada as a "land of opportunity" is complete humbug. For PhDs graduating in the hordes from McGill there are increasingly no opportunities. Also there are big questions about how valuable the McGill brand really is!! Time for a reality check, maybe?
The Ph.D glut in many fields is not unique to Canada. Just because you have not been able to find a tenure track position does not mean that Canada is no longer a land of opportunity for the average person.
Tiens, cette personne dite franco-ontarienne (et parfois québécoise, ça dépend de quel média) fédéraliste. Elle parle d'être entourée des gens des quatre coins du monde, mais 70% des étudiants étrangers à McGill sont des américains (par contre, à l'Université de Montréal, il y a vraiment une diversité chez les étudiants). Pour une grande anglophile, l'anglais de cette femme n'est pas très bon. Il y a tellement de gens comme elle au Québec, c'est tellement typique. Ils croient à tort que le Canada c'est bien, car ils ne lisent pas, mais ils travaillent à l'université ! La folie....
