    My safety guy at work routinely screams at people for not keeping the load on the platform while moving with Combilifts, even in confined areas where it's impossible to move without the load in the air. He says the manufacturer made that rule.
    I'm using this video as evidence next time he gets on my case.

    • @deezelfairy
      @deezelfairy Год назад +2

      As a forklift mechanic who looks after dozens of these machines your safety guy is talking nonsense. There is no 'safety' issue with letting the forks support the load.
      However, you should let the platform/legs support the load as much as possible as it does save a huge amount of wear and tear on the mast, reach carriage, lift chains ect.

    • @christianpetterson1784
      @christianpetterson1784 Год назад

      @deezel_fairy I can understand the wear aspect, but most of the time I'm moving a third or a quarter the capacity at most with a 6" load center. He also said moving with the carriage reached at all is the biggest issue. That's any load, in any circumstance.
      His only expertise at a safety guy is the training material the rental company gave him for our forklifts last year, so I only do what he says if he threatens to get me fired.

    • @combilift
      @combilift Год назад

      I do agree with you on there not being an issue with the forks bearing the weight @deezelfairy, although the load should be carried at a safe driving height. I would have an issue with Christian driving with the load in the air as this is a tip hazard with any forklift and does not follow global forklift training standard.
      The platform is there to reduce mast wear and tear as well as to help protect against product damage/bend.

    • @christianpetterson1784
      @christianpetterson1784 Год назад

      @combilift I could see this being an issue with the carriage extended or with a raised load while taking corners at speed (the carriage does have a fair bit of rotational play when long loads twist at regular speeds.)
      However, loads are only needed to be raised when taking very tight corners at extremely low speed with the carriage pulled back tight against the cab and the mast tilted back, as depicted in the video. In this case, it's acting like a regular forklift mast, and wear should mostly be a non-issue.
