    Hi Peter. When i was a young lad in the mid nineties, i could not afford a new slr so I bought a Chinon at a Pawn Shop. It is only a few years after that I realised I owned a wonderful camera, loaded with features and reliable. Thanks for your videos sir, it's a joy watching you.

    I just purchased this exact model at a thrift shop several days ago. Metering, shutter speeds, timer etc... all worked perfectly. Cleaned it up a good bit and tested it further and finally decided to load it up with film. First frame was just great, then wound on to the 2nd frame and the advance felt all funny then went slack and the shutter would not fire. Finally got it to fire after some fiddling but winding on for the next shot again the advance felt off and the this time the shutter itself only cocked halfway and there it stays. Something is jammed or gummed up. I *nearly* had a good very good deal, but instead another project/temporary-paper-weight.

    The flash sync is actually 1/125 you can test that by opening the back and looking . The full frame gets exposed. It’s the same shutter as the Pentax me super. Seiko

      Peter Elgar I will try and come up with some ideas for you. I have a Printflex camera you can have. You should do some lens reviews.

    • @theoldfilmbloke
      @theoldfilmbloke  6 лет назад

      Mark -- I had better not take you up on your kind offer of a 'Prinzflex Camera' as i will get into trouble with Wife if i get any more cameras ! Regarding 'lens reviews' really not easy to see differences on a computer screen -- it needs paper prints in the hand !

      Why don’t you pick a picture you took and tell us about the photo and what you captured it with and how. Love watching your videos and hearing your story’s about what you have captured. I love vintage camera lenses and use them on my digital. You could chat about your favourite lenses and stuff. If your wife doesn’t want your old lenses around send them to me I will annoy my mrs with them ha ha. All the best and hope you do some more videos soon you cheer me up.

    Hi Peter, i have just started using the chinon cg-5 camera but i am pretty new to using film cameras and i was taking some pictures today and i had the shutter speed set to 60, but i was not using flash, and i have just watched your video about this camera and you said that on 60 it will kill the ambient light, does this mean that all the photos i took today will just be black? can you recommend a shutter speed to use without flash and just using normal daytime ambient light :)
    Thanks

    Thanks for the video. What colour 35mm film do you recommend for the CG-5?

    • @theoldfilmbloke
      @theoldfilmbloke  2 года назад +1

      SLIDE or Colour PRINT FILM ? Not many 'Slide' films left on the market now but KODAK do Ektachrome still . For PRINT FILM see if you can get some AGFA VISTA 200 or Kodak ColorPlus 200 -- they are CHEAPER and GOOD !

    Can i damage the film if i leave it in before i finish all my foto shooting? Like leave the rest for another day or so

    • @theoldfilmbloke
      @theoldfilmbloke  4 года назад +2

      NO Damage like that BUT if you ,leave it in for MONTHS and it is in a warm place the 'Latent Image' will be damaged and faded on development.

    Hey Peter! I don't know if you'll see this, but I bought one of these about a month ago, but I haven't been able to use it because of the film lever. I can't pull it past halfway. Is there a way to fix this that you know of?

      It's the mirror that's get stuck to the "roof", guaranteed.
      Try and just gently pull down on the edge of the mirror. Don't try and grap the top of it, just put your finger on the side of it and drag down a little. Shouldn't require much force. If someone left the camera for a long time without use, that is a normal problem. Get it down, pull the shutter and fire it a couple of times and it will be working as normal again.

    I got 40 frames out of a Ricoh 500 GX recently!

    • @theoldfilmbloke
      @theoldfilmbloke  8 лет назад +1

      I got 40 frames out of a Minolta Dynax 5 on outdated slide film by attaching a short length of old film to the leader, about 4 inches long with a very small strip of cut sellotape on each side-- I trimmed the old film in half to match the shape of the leader -- be careful with these 'auto load' cameras, doing it can jam them up !
