  • Learn the art and science of designing and creating three-dimensional objects out of paper. As a paper artist & paper engineer, I love to explore and transform flat sheets of paper into intricate structures, pop-ups, movable mechanisms, and sculptures. I use various techniques such as cutting, folding, scoring, and gluing to create innovative design ideas and explorations.
I love to combine elements of engineering, design, and craftsmanship. And it requires a deep understanding of the properties of paper, including its weight, thickness, flexibility, and strength. Sometime it demands to employ principles of physics and geometry to create functional and visually appealing paper structures.
Skills that I am showcasing here can be used to create pop-up books, interactive greeting cards, packaging designs, promotional materials, exhibition displays, and even large-scale installations. I like to collaborate with illustrators, graphic designers, and other creative professionals to bring their ideas to life.
In this video I am sharing my recent exploration of studying the fluidity of paper. To those who are beginners, paper cutting art is a traditional art form that involves the intricate cutting of paper to create delicate and detailed designs. It has a long history that spans across different cultures and regions. For example, Chinese paper cutting, known as Jianzhi, is characterized by intricate designs depicting animals, plants, and cultural symbols. Scherenschnitte is a traditional form of paper cutting that originated in Germany and Switzerland, often featuring symmetrical and decorative motifs. Other regions, such as Poland, Mexico, and Japan, also have their unique paper cutting traditions. Paper cutting art can be created using different types of paper, including colored paper, handmade paper, or even delicate tissue paper. Artists may use templates or create their own designs from scratch. The resulting paper cuttings can be framed as standalone artworks, used in illustrations, incorporated into crafts, or used for decorative purposes like window displays or lanterns.
The process of paper cutting involves simple steps, I start with drawing a pattern on a piece of paper. Then cut along the lines of the pattern, removing the unwanted sections while leaving the desired shape intact. It's very important to have right materials handy along with the papers.
Do ask me any questions you have regarding paper art, paper cutting, paper folding & paper engineering. I will assure to answer to your queries in comments section below.
