Hal didn't leave to make more money, he isn't getting paid more, he left because he wanted to win. They all in slightly different ways said that Hal told them he had an offer before LAN and he was considering it but wasn't sure and he told them about the details and it was about the same as he was getting at TSM.
Hal probably would've taken the opportunity anyways. He's said from the start that he never wanted to be IGL, just never trusted anyone but Zero and Sweet. Before Verhulst, he tried to get Gen to join TSM, but Gen either had visa issues or didn't want to leave Australia at the time. Now he doesn't have to IGL and he plays with Gen, win-win. The new team and payout is just icing on the cake.
