What is see from most people is: fantastic, wonderful, next level, ... but no i=one reserves the compliments they give "legendary" guitarists like Slash, Van Halen.... why is that I wonder?
There are many solo instrumentalists that are very good. However, for me to consider them legendary (not quite that many in that category) I want to see them interact with other musicians. No need to be in a band. As an example: Tommy Emmanuel is a solo artist but he regularly plays/jams with others. When you see how he picks up on ideas from others and immediately responds by using his wast knowledge of his instrument to develop those ideas he becomes legendary to me.

For me I would have to see him interact with other musicians before I would go that far.
He’s not in a band…..he doesn’t do this in stadiums…..and slash and EVH did their thing inside world famous bands….
