As someone who had a home birth completely of my own will, I am pissed for the OP in story 2! I had an incredible experience that was completely supported by my husband and my midwife who was the best ever! Everything was exactly how I needed it to be for safety and comfort! It’s so terrible and downright potentially fatal to put a mother in a situation where she is not comfortable and safe for birth! OP needs to get her and her daughter out of that house, because her husband is evil!
For real! The fact that the doula was so pushy and really ignored OP really drove home that her role was to quietly and passively be the vessel to produce healthy offspring. She's definitely not a _partner_ in his mind.
@JustALowlyServer - I am glad you had a great experience with your home birth! That said, OP didn't want that. I think if she gets pregnant again and he makes her do home birth - again, they should put his cojones in a vice for the entire time she is in labor, give it a jiggle and a little bit more squeeze pressure every time she has contractions to make sure he's still feeling it, and no pain meds. Jeez.

I don’t know if you read my comment lol I said her husband was evil. Her doula was also evil. She was in a messed up situation and needs to get out. My husband was by my side through my decision making process and it was ultimately all up to me but with his complete support. That’s my point. It’s legitimately a risk to a mother and child to have a birth at home if that is not what she wants. No woman should ever have her autonomy stripped from her like that.

First story got me more mad than I expected. I want to change my name because it has always felt like it’s not ”mine” if that makes sense. I haven’t changed it at this point because I don’t know what My Name is yet. But no amount of ”but old fashioned names are so pretty” or ”but you’re named after your great aunt’s beagle” will make me like my name or identify with it.

I don't know about that honestly.😅 Story 3 is really bad but what makes their situation somewhat better is that abused people at least have some support from OP. The second story sounds like literal hell on earth, OP has absolutely no support and instead is being abused and gaslighted by people who are supposed to support her. And the worst part is she is still in denial which means it will take some time before she can escape. Some people just don't vibe with the name their parents gave them, and that's okay. A large majority of people go by nicknames/shortened versions of their names; does SIL have a problem with that, too? Sometimes these videos are truly upsetting. The title story has me legitimately stressed for her if she has nowhere to go like she says. And hearing the way she talks about herself is horrific. Yeah, absolutely. It's one thing for some fathers to be somewhat dismissive and ignorant (a-hole thinking, but that can be somewhat shut down in a hospital at least) but this case is absolutely abusive. Anything could have happened, she or the baby could have died, not to mention the psychological trauma she took away from this. So many women suffer from birth related PTSD because all control over their own bodies is just stripped away form them. I feel so sorry for OP and as a pregnant woman myself I can't even imagine how scary this must've been. I hope she can get out of there safely, who knows what other things he will end up forcing her to do...

Not to mention that even a fully healthy pregnancy can permanently disable the person carrying them, let alone one this horrendously stressful. Post 2- As Labor nurse this is just unacceptable and horrifying. It’s her choice no one else’s. It scares me how controlling he is. Also a doula’s scope is not to deliver patients. A midwife is a different thing. I’d take that doula to court tbh… In case someone says this I’m not hating on doulas, just hating on unsafe practices. I don't like the idea of home births. Imagine if there are complications? Imagine the feeling that your child died because you weren't in a hospital? Maternal deaths are still a thing, and in some cases (I don't remember the statistics right now), but homebirths have been at the top of "where" those happen during birth for a long time. Say you live an hour away from the hospital. What if there's a hemorage? You'll bleed out before even a medical helicopter gets you to the hospital.

Story 5: Op is 1000% NTA. My husband and I had practically the exact same thing happen to us. His friend and his friends wife were going through a rough patch because she cheated on him. They came to stay with us while he had to work in the area. It was supposed to be for two weeks, but they stayed for two months after they finally left I felt so disrespected by how they treated our home, and how they treated me. Our first child was four months old and I was repeatedly told how I was doing things wrong. I felt awful. I don’t even let them come over to visit. I told my husband, he’s free to see them at their house or going out with them, but I refuse to have them in my home again.

Post 1: Hormones isn't an excuse. I don't understand why so many people say "it's the hormones". They can still control themselves, this woman is just giving in to her mind because she's focusing on this name thing. No one that I've know that's been pregnant (and I know it's different for everyone) has had these "hormone issues". Maybe, just maybe, if this is in the US, it's due to all the hormones that's in the food (this is a real thing. for example, look at apples from the US and apples from Europe, it's a big difference)

And if anyone finds themself in this situation or similar, where someone around you refuses to take you to the hospital when you're in labor, CALL AN AMBULANCE. And once baby is out, sue the person who refused to drive you for emotional damages and the cost of the ambulance ride.
Story 2: I mean this in the politest way possible, but she's suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. no good man would intimidate her with his ability to hurt her (saying he can but he won't), constantly put her down (reminding her that she didn't finish college, saying she's only good enough as a child-barer, etc) and forces her to make unsafe decisions. she needs to leave this man, or else who knows what he'll do to their babies or even her? as a man who was in an abusive household from age 6-age 9, I feel horrible for her and her child.

This should have been discussed before marriage. People give me attitude that my husband and I basically dated for marriage. He messaged me late March 2022 and said "I'm looking for a wife.... Let's talk!" and we talked about so much then engaged less than a month later and married August 4 of 2022. But then they tell me some of their marriage issues and I'm like well my husband and I discussed where we stood on that before getting married. As that line keeps coming out, people change their tune. For example we are late 40s and discussed that we were open to kids but would not do fertility treatments. We have discussed fostering. So far, we've both said, "maybe, but not now..."

I am not a baker, but someone did ask me to make their wedding cake once, because they really liked the ONLY cake I like to make for others. I said absolutely not lol. Because that cake has 15 crepe thin layers, with a kind of whipped cream between each. On top of it being pretty expensive to make, so that means I made it very rarely, back then it took 7 TO 10 HOURS to make, and there was no down time in those hours. Each layer took a while to get thin and even, and took about 10-12 minutes to bake, and only one goes in at a time. There is a lot that goes into it, it is exhausting. And just one would NOT feed a wedding. It was flattering, and i get it, cuz it tastes like cinnamon toast crunch but a little better, in cake form. But the work was NOT taken into consideration, at all. He and his best friend even worked in a kitchen, which was confusing. Though it was a hospital kitchen, so maybe that was why? I'm more of a cook than a baker, and self taught, and disabled, so there was no way I could make more than one of that cake... It has been a decade, and they can't get married yet for health insurance reasons. So I have been able to avoid a second ask lol. They didn't come to me privately, or even ask their partner. They took a bite, and demanded in front of a bunch of people. I truly do appreciate that they like it, but... tf?

Story Three: The Husband & his Sister have been normalized into that horrible treatment, they EXPECT such treatment. As such they're excusing their Mom's behavior as they've been taught that it's a normal reaction. It reminds me of a line from a song by a band here in Colorado, in the song "Captivity (Light Of Day)" by Elete they have the line "You can't see that you see that you're in a prison, if you were born inside of a cage. You've delt with the hand you were given, Nobody ever showed you the light of day." That perfectly describes these adult children raised by narcissists, they've been taught that such behavior is NORMAL to expect from elders.

I had a family friend make me a very basic 2 tier wedding cake. When they explained how they only charged for materials, we felt bad because their time is valuable to us too so we threw more money into the payment.

Story 3 is really bad but what makes their situation somewhat better is that abused people at least have some support from OP. Sometimes these videos are truly upsetting. The title story has me legitimately stressed for her if she has nowhere to go like she says. And hearing the way she talks about herself is horrific. If this sounds like you, your children are almost certainly better off growing up hard off than in this kind if danger and learning that this is an acceptable way for someone to treat you. Yeah, absolutely. It's one thing for some fathers to be somewhat dismissive and ignorant (a-hole thinking, but that can be somewhat shut down in a hospital at least) but this case is absolutely abusive. Anything could have happened, she or the baby could have died, not to mention the psychological trauma she took away from this. So many women suffer from birth related PTSD because all control over their own bodies is just stripped away form them. I feel so sorry for OP and as a pregnant woman myself I can't even imagine how scary this must've been. I hope she can get out of there safely, who knows what other things he will end up forcing her to do...

Story 5: Op is 1000% NTA. My husband and I had practically the exact same thing happen to us. His friend and his friends wife were going through a rough patch because she cheated on him. They came to stay with us while he had to work in the area. It was supposed to be for two weeks, but they stayed for two months after they finally left I felt so disrespected by how they treated our home, and how they treated me. Our first child was four months old and I was repeatedly told how I was doing things wrong. I felt awful. I don’t even let them come over to visit. I told my husband, he’s free to see them at their house or going out with them, but I refuse to have them in my home again.

Post 1: Hormones isn't an excuse. I don't understand why so many people say "it's the hormones". They can still control themselves, this woman is just giving in to her mind because she's focusing on this name thing.

This should have been discussed before marriage. People give me attitude that my husband and I basically dated for marriage. He messaged me late March 2022 and said "I'm looking for a wife.... Let's talk!" and we talked about so much then engaged less than a month later and married August 4 of 2022. But then they tell me some of their marriage issues and I'm like well my husband and I discussed where we stood on that before getting married. As that line keeps coming out, people change their tune. For example we are late 40s and discussed that we were open to kids but would not do fertility treatments. We have discussed fostering. So far, we've both said, "maybe, but not now..."

I am not a baker, but someone did ask me to make their wedding cake once, because they really liked the ONLY cake I like to make for others. I said absolutely not lol. Because that cake has 15 crepe thin layers, with a kind of whipped cream between each. On top of it being pretty expensive to make, so that means I made it very rarely, back then it took 7 TO 10 HOURS to make, and there was no down time in those hours. Each layer took a while to get thin and even, and took about 10-12 minutes to bake, and only one goes in at a time. There is a lot that goes into it, it is exhausting. And just one would NOT feed a wedding.
It was flattering, and i get it, cuz it tastes like cinnamon toast crunch but a little better, in cake form. But the work was NOT taken into consideration, at all. He and his best friend even worked in a kitchen, which was confusing. Though it was a hospital kitchen, so maybe that was why? I'm more of a cook than a baker, and self taught, and disabled, so there was no way I could make more than one of that cake...
It has been a decade, and they can't get married yet for health insurance reasons. So I have been able to avoid a second ask lol. They didn't come to me privately, or even ask their partner.
