I've just noticed that Chuck Lorre, of Chuck Lorre productions, who does 'The Big Bang Theory' and 'Two and a half men' was once just one of about 15 writers for this show. Aaah the humble beginnings. I also noticed that Jean Chalopin was the producer for this, the same person that did Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, obviously had a fascination with hi-tech weaponized vehicles! :D
This episode establishes that Gloria Baker, Brad Turner, Alex Sector & Buddy Hawks the best team suited for an unknown mission. I first wondered why we didn't hear Buddy's watch call, but I can't see him wearing it. So maybe M.A.S.K. members take off their watches while at the base. I expect that if Buddy was not selected he would have been refused to go on the mission, though it seems from the previous episode that Alex has some kind of special treatment.
This was the deepest episode of m.a.s.k with Gloria being injured and Brad blaming himself. The only other episode I remember seeing any real emotions was when Scott and T Bob were killed near the end of the star chariot. You could feel Matt's grief.
I’m aware this is an old comment, but doesn’t Sly Rax look like John Lennon? LOL! you could say he’s ‘bored’ having to always follow Miles Mayhem’s orders (implying that he *isn’t really* evil, he’s merely following an oath he made to Miles Mayhem).
Wow, the mechanical troubbles. And someone in the hospital! It had to be Gloria. 😟 Good stuff w/Brad. Wow, Scott helping due to T-Bob. Wild bomb problem at the end. Thanks!
All the combined smarts of the M.A.S.K. team and they remove Gloria's mask/helmet when they remove her from the crash!?!? Next episode - Gloria ""Wheelchair... ON!""
I have to say the animation in this show is quite impressive for its time. And this was made by the same company that gave us Heathcliff, Inspector Gadget, and Dinosaucers.
MDthornton83 that's because it was done by a company called Ashi Productions( now Production Reed Co, LTD), a Japanimation studio. The Japanese have always had high quality animations, and created many of the ones we watch here in the states. Voltron and Battle of the Planets( known as Gatchaman in Japan) are just two examples I can think of.
"No Scott, its too dangerous to come on missions with me. Why don't you ride your AI controlled mono-wheel long distances on public highways without a helmet instead?" :P
AnimeBleachBabe he’d probably learn from his own experience. “But Dad, if it’s too dangerous, why do you want me coming along?” “Something I learned from my own childhood days with your grandfather. If I keep you with me, you might only be captured alive, and I can rescue you. If I try to keep you out of the way, you’re more likely to be killed. Go figure.” That, and in space, a powered armor suit would do wonders against explosive decompression and flying debris.
Buddy 'Clutch' Hawks' underworld connections would ne brought up again for a couple of later episodes. His 'master of disguise' and 'intelligence expertise' basically means that he's a spy, so he must have underworld connections.
Even as early as *this* episode, Alex Sector concurs with Matt Trakker, that his son Scott, let alone T-Bob, are not to be joining him on his mission (Alex Sector to Scott and T-Bob - ‘You two know that creep Miles Mayhem, and how dangerous he makes your dad’s missions, which is WHY the two of you are never to be joining him on his missions.’) Alex Sector could additionally explain (more about why Matt Trakker always tells the two never to be joining him on his missions) about Sly Rax (in that, being on the side of VENOM, he too can make the missions dangerous), to Scott and T-Bob.
The scene showing the wreck aftermath looked like the Firecracker was there. Oh wait, I think Buddy is also the co-driver of the Firecracker. Is that right?
+Ryan Schroer According to the DVD that I got these from, this is season 2. So if it is an error, then it was on the part of the company that put out the DVD's. Thanks for the feedback.
In this episode she is the co pilot of Dusty Hayes "Gator" car. Later Gloria gets her own car, a Porche 928 With codename "Shark". Unfortunetly it was never made into a toy ... The only car of Gloria Baker that was made into a toy, was a Lamborghini Countach With code name "Stilletto". It was very late in the series and was never futured in any episode.
One of the very few times Alex Sector’s said Miles Mayhem’s name, in the cartoon (he definitely does acknowledge Miles Mayhem’s existence; I can imagine him, when concurring with Matt Trakker, saying to Scott and T-Bob ‘you two know about that creep Miles Mayhem, and how dangerous he is’, when Scott and T-Bob want to join Matt Trakker on his missions). Miles Mayhem’s exactly who *makes* the missions dangerous, hence Matt Trakker always has to say no, if / when Scott and T-Bob want to join him on his missions. Sly Rax - one of Miles Mayhem’s henchmen, would *additionally* make the missions dangerous (I’m aware there’s talk of a third season that was to have been made, of the MASK cartoon; bet people didn’t miss Scott and T-Bob, by season 2 - the racing series). Had Ali Bombay known about Scott’s desire, to join his dad on his missions, he too would have concurred with Matt Trakker, that the missions are too dangerous for Scott, let alone T-Bob, especially with VENOM behind them.
Finished Jayce, Centurions and Dungeons and Dragons last week. I'm in the middle of re-re-watching the He-man (orig) series and am 8 episodes in to the 75 of M.A.S.K.. The He-Man series will get finished 1st at which point I might re-watch the newer He-Man or She-Ra series or the newer Thundercats, I can't find the original series of that; that is unless you've got any good suggestions? What are you planning on watching next? :D
Samantha LeBeau I just said it in the actual comments. Alex says "Bloody weird",. 'Bloody' being a mild British curse word. Though Rhino's engine is heard in the background, you can hear him say it.
Decades later I still occasionally get this song stuck in my head.
Cartoon was ahead of it time in truth now more than 20 years later i still love to watch it
'Or a child molester...'
Wow, that PSA had no chill whatsoever, lol...
Ah Gloria and her glorious mullet...
Also, Haim Saban and Shuki Levy of Power Rangers fame wrote the music.
They gotta start somewhere
This episode establishes that Gloria Baker, Brad Turner, Alex Sector & Buddy Hawks the best team suited for an unknown mission. I expect that if Buddy was not selected he would have been refused to go on the mission, though it seems from the previous episode that Alex has some kind of special treatment.
Since Buddy was there when the mission started
This was the deepest episode of m.a.s.k with Gloria being injured and Brad blaming himself. The only other episode I remember seeing any real emotions was when Scott and T Bob were killed near the end of the star chariot. You could feel Matt's grief.
I love how Sly Rex just sounds bored or stoned 99% of the time
Gotta love that good bad acting.
Yeah. This show does have some pretty lousy voice acting.
He's my favorite character in the series for this exact reason.
Sounds like he's going for a bad Jack Nicholson impersonation. Wonder if he ever said "Here's Johnny".
Thanks for taking me back to cereal n cartoons on Saturday morning!
Wow, the mechanical troubbles. And someone in the hospital! It had to be Gloria. 😟
Good stuff w/Brad. Wow, Scott helping due to T-Bob. Wild bomb problem at the end. Thanks!
dude you rock i haven;t seen these since i was a kid
All the combined smarts of the M.A.S.K. team and they remove Gloria's mask/helmet when they remove her from the crash!?!?
Next episode - Gloria ""Wheelchair... ON!""
Ah, she would be back in action two episodes later.
1:04 Better movie then 2012.
lmao 8:42 that 'Allo cracks me up with the cartoony jiggle
I'm English and I thought it was hilarious.
THE BEST CARTOON OF ALL TIME! ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! LOVED IT WHEN I WAS 5, LOVE IT EVEN MORE, AND I'M NOW 41! HAHA
Sorry son it's too dangerous. This time if you disobey me like you always do I'll skin your ass up. Lol!
06:09 An emergency call?! Let me just sink the puppy XD
Change your handle dude
I suspect this S01E07 rather than S02E07. BTW thank you for showing these. I miss this show. ☺
3:10 - 2020 lol
I have to say the animation in this show is quite impressive for its time. And this was made by the same company that gave us Heathcliff, Inspector Gadget, and Dinosaucers.
Agreed 100%.
Amazing.
And my brother accuses me of being old-school. There's a lot we can learn from old-school.
MDthornton83 your brother doesn't know what he's missing
"No Scott, its too dangerous to come on missions with me. Why don't you ride your AI controlled mono-wheel long distances on public highways without a helmet instead?" :P
20:42 That PSA.
+Nathan Robinson Boy, they really went all out on that one. However, absolutely necessary!
Nathan Robinson OMFG that ginger kid nearly got fingered. What the actual fuck??
Ah, the 80s. When people thought the main danger was from "strangers", rather than priests and children's TV presenters.
13:54 - the first time I ever heard the word “underwhelmed”
Miles Mayhem and his vehicle remind me of Dr Claw from Inspector Gadget.
An idea for a spinoff is MASK in space with Scott as the new leader. #🚀
I can see him with a son or daughter who acts just like he did and he'd finally realize what he put his dad through lol
AnimeBleachBabe he’d probably learn from his own experience.
“But Dad, if it’s too dangerous, why do you want me coming along?”
“Something I learned from my own childhood days with your grandfather. If I keep you with me, you might only be captured alive, and I can rescue you. If I try to keep you out of the way, you’re more likely to be killed. Go figure.”
That, and in space, a powered armor suit would do wonders against explosive decompression and flying debris.
And what kinda leader do you think he would be? Better than Matt?
why is Buddy Hawks suddenly an underworld expert? he wasnt that in the previous episodes? and Matt also asks him about the underworld all of a sudden
it's cartoon "logic" . . . new abilities and such as the plot demands :D
I was just asking myself the same question haha. I guess he indulged in that hobby in his spare time. But of all things, the underworld? hahahha
Buddy 'Clutch' Hawks' underworld connections would ne brought up again for a couple of later episodes. His 'master of disguise' and 'intelligence expertise' basically means that he's a spy, so he must have underworld connections.
10:02 "This is bloody weird!" lol
Nostálgic Times Unforgetable ❤✨🔥💯👍🇵🇷
I like how Venom needs outside help in defeating MASK But is always defeated
Yes I concur with David315842, that ‘bloody’ isn’t one of the worst words.
If it messes with the systems on their cars how the heck do the radio's work
very nice
"Yes, and then I got the shits"
All: "hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha"
Anybody have noticed 2020’s movie poster??! Where actually everybody were on Quarantine at home that year 😂😂
The scene showing the wreck aftermath looked like the Firecracker was there. Oh wait, I think Buddy is also the co-driver of the Firecracker. Is that right?
It is.
Error..this is season 1..not 2..
+Ryan Schroer According to the DVD that I got these from, this is season 2. So if it is an error, then it was on the part of the company that put out the DVD's. Thanks for the feedback.
+JJohnson4848 Well, it's their error then.
What's the codename vehicle of Gloria baker?
In this episode she is the co pilot of Dusty Hayes "Gator" car. Later Gloria gets her own car, a Porche 928 With codename "Shark". Unfortunetly it was never made into a toy ... The only car of Gloria Baker that was made into a toy, was a Lamborghini Countach With code name "Stilletto". It was very late in the series and was never futured in any episode.
The greatest enemy of a jet.
shark
Zefram Mann I see what you did there...
As Alex "Megabyte" Sector Would Say: "Miles Mayhem Has A Found A Way To Neutralize Our Neutralizers! Very Unsporting of Him, I Must Say!"
One of the very few times Alex Sector’s said Miles Mayhem’s name, in the cartoon (he definitely does acknowledge Miles Mayhem’s existence; I can imagine him, when concurring with Matt Trakker, saying to Scott and T-Bob ‘you two know about that creep Miles Mayhem, and how dangerous he is’, when Scott and T-Bob want to join Matt Trakker on his missions). bad guys need a bounty hunter
It takes 3 people to get rid of one bomb?
2020 huh
This is season one episode seven. I don't mind because s2 sux.
So this is what you started to watch after Jayce atWW. Good choice, great minds think alike! :D
Actually I am in the middle of re-watching the first season of MASK.
Finished Jayce, Centurions and Dungeons and Dragons last week. I'm in the middle of re-re-watching the He-man (orig) series and am 8 episodes in to the 75 of M.A.S.K.. What are you planning on watching next? :D
Alex swearing and child molesters are mentioned....This episode is bloody weird! :D
+David315842 I didn't catch the swearing. Where was it?
Samantha LeBeau I just said it in the actual comments. Alex says "Bloody weird",. 'Bloody' being a mild British curse word. Though Rhino's engine is heard in the background, you can hear him say it.
David315842 I didn't know that "bloody" was cursing to the Brits. I equated it to "freaking" and things like that; like a replacement for cursing.
Samantha LeBeau As I said it's a 'mild' curse word.
Samantha LeBeau yes we us brits use it as a mild curse word, but he take a slight gasp is someone uses it hehe
what the hell is m,a sk
Gloria used to be a blonde what happened
