  • This video demonstrates how to implement and use a Graphical User Interface in Cameo Systems Modeler / MagicDraw. This is useful for simulations for focusing in on specific aspects of your system and highlighting those for demonstration purposes.

Hi, me again, I am trying to use "Text Area" in one of my group boxes but even though they appear in the GUI Package diagram, when I run the sim they do not appear. I am not having the same trouble with text fields. any help appreciated.

Good Morning, (maybe/likely a non-issue) I am using version 2021x, While following along and at the point of dragging the GUI UI onto the SimConfiguration, (apprx @ time 13:40)it adds the GUI as a hyperlink at the bottom of the sim config "box" as opposed to adding it as a "UI = GUI" as demonstrated in your video. is this actually NOT an issue? (still trying to get it to work, but will get there, ROOKIE LOL)

Me, again, I deleted everything and started over, it worked correctly and even the SIM ran. (user error I suppose) THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO.

I have a multi-lined string value that I am trying to get into some UI component. The one that makes the most sense, is the text area, but I cant get it to work at all, and there is no documentation on it. I have it working for labels and text boxes, but I dont see a way to word wrap. Is there any way to do what I am going for?

Hi Jeremy, yes, you can use the “List” option. That will display multi-lined strings.

@oberley thanks for the response! I have been playing with list as well, and its having the same issue. I tried turning off the horizontal scroll and leaving the vertical scroll always on and as needed, but it only puts a single line, and provides a horizontal scroll bar. Is there an option I am missing?
Note: I have verified that the value is broken up in the Variables tab, as i expect (4 lines).

Jeremy, can you explain a bit more about the multi-lined string value? The issue could be the way you have that set up. The way that I know will work is if you have a value property that looks like this on the block… value : String [*] = [A,B,C,D] Is that the same format you have for your value property?

@@brianMoberley So before, i had a value property called PartNumber, and using your example, it was set up like this
      PartNumber : String = A
      B
      C
      D
From your example, it sounds like it does not work like this. I tried setting it up so that Multiplicity is set to *, and now the property looks like yours, but I am getting the same result (displayed on a single line)
      PartNumber : String [*] = [A,B,C,D]
I am assuming what you are guiding me to is setting up an array to be broken into the list. I was searching for how to do this, but this is where my searching stunted.

Jeremy, if you’re able to join the MBSE Discord with this link (invite) it may be a bit easier to talk through since you could share a screenshot etc. let me know if you’re open to that. I’m not quite sure what the issue may be Are you running the simulation or simply looking at the GUI in the User Interface Modeling Diagram? You’ll need to make sure to run the simulation to see the array displayed. discord.gg/AWKJjnUz
