      Deborah Ring I have done a couple of quilts from the Craftsy class by Eileen Roche & her book is great. Not sure if that's the technique you mean but the quilting is done by the machine onto appliqued pieces. If you have a the JEF file with the embroidery to fit the applique it should work just fine. Patsy Thompson does some incredible work & I'm hoping she does another Craftsy class to share her expertise. (I'm not there yet to create my own JEF file but would love to learn!) CONGRATULATIONS on your new machine! Have fun! I loved my arc of roses so much I'm going to do something else today!!! Enjoy! (and please keep me posted on what you create.) - Angie

    Thank you for this video. I got gifted a older version and just got it back from getting serviced. Is there any certain type of thread that needs used?? Or a place to learn about thread? I am having issues with bees nest or breaking thread.

    • @dailycharmaddict
      @dailycharmaddict  2 года назад

      Congratulations on your new machine!! That’s exciting! I buy my threads at Marathon Threads Canada and you can Google them (or other sources) to read about advice and types of thread. I also took an online class (well, several) from Craftsy to learn how to embroider. The owners manual is another great starting place as well as the dealer who serviced your machine. Books are also a great resource too. If you don’t want to invest in a new book you can check the library but sometimes those can be outdated. Experimentation is also a great way to learn and practice without pressure of an actual project. Thread nests are a result of tension issues or the incorrect needle and thread combo. Your thread may be too thick and your tension too tight. The stabilization products you use are also important for success and a nice result. I would suggest going slowly, learn as much as you can, and practice and tinker to find what works best for you. Good luck and have fun!

    • @dailycharmaddict

      Hi Cindy! The easiest way to use this for quilting is to embroider your blocks before assembling and quilting to avoid the underside of the thread. It is great for labels and personalizing quilted gifts too. I made a cover for my Sweet 16 with "her" name on it. I hope you can locate that on my blog. It's a lot of fun but I haven't used it since last year when I embroidered monograms on matching Christmas stockings. We have a new family member so I need to do another!! Scroll way down o the right side of the blog to the category list and select Embroidery or use the search bar at the top. Thank you for watching!

    • @dailycharmaddict
      @dailycharmaddict  4 года назад

      Diana Huston to be honest, I found the whole thing pretty easy but had nothing to compare it to. I would upload embroidery files for projects from other sources (like {formerly} Craftsy classes) and did use the included designs for fun embellishments on my own creations (like a cover for my sit down mid-arm). Later I purchased advanced stand alone software (Embird) to manipulate designs etc. but it was expensive and quite advanced for me so I really only used the basic features (rotate, size, etc.). I’m sure things have changed so much with iPads and wireless and other technology but of course I haven’t worked with it all in 4 years and haven’t kept up. For what I’d probably ever do (not selling stuff or working for others), the stand alone features are perfectly adequate! Hope that helps!

      Oh, that IS exciting! I remember being so pumped to get mine and a little nervous too. Just take your time getting to know the machine (it is not complicated at all and less to worry about than a regular sewing machine) and dive in with lots of test pieces so you can see how it works and how to adjust threads, etc. Try hooping different ways and experiment. You'll have a blast and it's so fun to start making projects. I review several classes, books, and creations on my blog if you're interested and there is a lot of information on the web for free. Hi, and thank you for watching and commenting. To be honest with you, it has been a while since I embroidered (about a year). I highly recommend checking out the tutorials on-line and there are some excellent classes available (through Craftsy, for example). As I use the machine, following the directions in the manual, I have been able to embroider names, and simple designs. I have not tried multiple lines. I assume you can type them into the screen using the alphabet and adjusting the size and spacing so your 4 words/4 lines fit. Depending on what item you are going to embroider, you could stabilize the piece accordingly with stabilizer and then within the hoop. Often I find it easier to create a smaller applique label or patch and then affix that to the actual item. Then if there are problems it is much easier to start again rather than rip from you item! I'm sorry I can't be of more help but perhaps this gives you some ideas to try! I am self-taught and always feel experimentation and following the manual, plus some research on tutorials (even if not using the exact same machine) help tremendously! Good luck!

    • @dailycharmaddict
      @dailycharmaddict  9 лет назад +1

      Jolene Jackson Hi Jolene! So...if you have purchased a JEF embroidery file from somewhere you can simply transfer it from your computer to a stick/flash drive and then plug it into your 350 and access the file using that choice on the on-board screen of the 350. If you want to manipulate the design file in any way, or combine designs for example, you may want to have some software for that purpose. I chose Embird and within that software I purchased some extra 'stylized' alphabets, simply for variety. With that software you can create words or sentences to stitch out (e.g. a quilt label). You do not NEED to buy extra software to use your machine but it adds an extra element of customizability and creativity if that is something you are looking for. TBH, I use Embird mostly to 'see' what the design will look like and print out a template on vellum for accurate placement. I don't really use it much for designing or embellishment. I have used some purchased fonts for labels. I believe there are some free versions of Embird to try as well as some other brands. With Embird, you only purchase the components you need so it was not too expensive (maybe $150 ish ???). I would play and experiment with what is on-board the machine already and get comfortable. There are 3 sizes of monograms, different styles and upper and lower case. There is a lot to work with without adding software. Play and have fun and then decide if you need something more depending on what you intend to do. Hope that helps! :)

    • @dailycharmaddict
      @dailycharmaddict  4 года назад

      Matt Saltzer it can...with limitations. You can only pre-program a certain amount of characters (can't recall how many and am not near manual. I will check and reply again). You are further limited depending on which font you choose (I think there are 3) and size (also 3). I'll double che k all this when I go to my studio and get back to you. It's an at-home machine, is fairly basic, and you probably wouldn't want this for any commercial sentence/phrase embroidery. Hope that helps

    Hi there, I realise that this is an old post and you may not have this machine anymore, but wanted to ask if you could explain how you used the giga hoop? Were you able to do all the design on the machine without any software program on a computer? Thanks, Tina.

    • @dailycharmaddict
      @dailycharmaddict  4 года назад

      Hi Tina! I do in fact still have this machine! However, I haven't used it in a while. The giga hoop works by splitting the design into two parts. The first half is stitched, the hoop is shifted and then the second half is stitched. Tbh I have only used it once and I used a file on a purchased Janome cd (a dog and cat design). No other software was required since the cs files were made exactly for this process. If you'd like to read more about it and see my stitched design (which I made into a pillow, still use, and is very cute!) you can read my blog post here: www.overthekitchencounter.com/over_the_kitchen_counter_/2013/04/lets-be-friends-giga-hoop-embroidery.html if that doesn't work, go to overthekitchencounter.com and search giga hoop in the search box and scroll down to find the post. Hope that helps a little bit; I loved watching the machine stitch and the results are beautiful! I hope my life circumstances allow me to get back to it one day soon! Hi! So sorry you couldn't hear the video well. I found going through the manual & playing with the machine as I did, to be helpful in learning what it could do & what buttons do what. I did a lot of experimentation & practice stitch outs. The Giga hoop stitches one half of the design & then you simply turn it around for the second half. You can search my blog for the post(s) about the machine & hoop/projects for more detailed info. Hi. Sorry I never got notified about your comment! With an at-home embroidery machine such as this you are only limited by what will fit in the hoops you have and what will fit under the needle. If you can hoop the fabric (or fur, in your case) you should be able to embroider it but I would definitely suggest doing test swatches first. I know that when embroidering loopy, dense towels/terry it is necessary to use the correct stabilizer and topping (so that the nap is not crushed and also the stitches are not 'lost' in the depth of the texture. I haven't embroidered on fur myself but if it is possible, perhaps trimming the area to be embroidered AND using a topping layer, might help. You would definitely have to research that more if you are focusing on teddy bear material. Good luck! Thanks for watching...

    Hello, can someone help me if how much this machine in USD$? Thank you so much!

      I am in Canada so I don't know what the cost would be in US dollars. I bought my machine years ago and it was over $1000. It is best to contact a Janome dealer in your area to discuss prices. They can often offer good deals and or trade-in allowances, free accessories, and excellent service. Good luck!

    Could you tell me how to upload new fonts to the 350E? I've uploaded some new fonts in JEF but the machine doesn't recognize it. It recognizes the new images though.

      Lynn Petersen Hmm, I have purchased fonts in Embird & then used a USB stick to transfer the design. Are u sure your new fonts were put in the My Designs folder on your stick?

    • @Geschehu
      @Geschehu 9 лет назад

      ***** Yes, they were under MY DESIGNS but they don't show up. Should they be in JEF form? That's what I uploaded in JEF form. When they were uploaded and extracted, there is a folder for each font style. What is Embird?

    • @dailycharmaddict
      @dailycharmaddict  9 лет назад +1

      Lynn Petersen Yes, any design would have to be in a compatible JEF form. I'm not sure why they are not showing up. Do you have a dealer you could contact or Janome directly? Embird is embroidery software which allows you to design & edit embroidery files.

    I have this machine also and am not having luck with getting lessons from the store I bought mine from. I have done several projects successfully and am loving this machine! I do have a question. How can I do larger letters and large 3 letter monograms? I have googled it and youtubed it to no avail. Thank you in advance for your advice.
