I've just bought the Mavic 3 classic and will be testing it out over this weekend. The C1 marking is a bonus but for me is not a deal breaker. I've upgraded from the air2 so should see a vast improvement.
Hi Gavin - many thanks for taking the time to upload your video and sharing your initial shock of lack of label on your M3 Classic. Mine arrived today in the UK, and while there is a label on the arm, it only shows UK CA (in smallish letters) with big CE lettering.....no number 1 to be seen anywhere. I was on the understanding with having my A2cof licence, I would likely only be allowed to fly this in the UK similar to my previous Air 2s - however thought if going outside the UK I could fly this in the same places as my Mini 3 Pro with no real distance restrictions to worry about. Any thoughts on this please?
I live in Ireland and use my Mavic 3 for landscape photography/video. I don't know if I'll sign up for the C1 firmware adjustments. They may sound minor, but Active Track limited to 50 meters may not be a problem, but if this also applies to all of Focus Track (Spotlight, Point of Interest) then it could create issues for me. Also, while I don't yet do much night filming (weather and time of year), I'm wondering if the two front LED''s being permanently on in low light could 'interfere' with the quality of the footage.
imo, for landscape you don't need c1 realy. for congested urban areas it is probably good idea to have a2 pilot certification anyway. as for C marking goes, here in eu (or at least here in slovenia) it has been told to me (from someone that is actually involved in our state drone regalation policy), that all mavic3 series gets formal C rating, when you upgraded to latest firmware, which slows down speed in tracking mode and i think try to keep distance from people etc at 50 minimum. it is not reversible thing, so you cant downgrade to old firmware etc. so, something similiar that happen to early dli drones, which didn't have height restrictions, but after firmware updates, they were restricted to 500m agl max height and this becomes standard for ever new drone from dji upwards.
Hi can I fly my Mavic 3 in UK, in A1/A3 Catuary . I have A License form Irelan IAA and A C1 Lebel on it. Can I fly my Drone with my Irish License And my Operater ID in the UK. Hop you cane help me with that Question.
Great video Gavin, noticed you on the Geeksvana chat last night 😊 Please let us know how you get on with your missing sticker, I presume it was just missed in the factory, and DJI will send you out another. I fully agree with your comment regarding the fairness of people who have just purchased the C1 drone. It would be pretty bad if the CAA didn’t allow the new distance regs, after all it has the changes to make it certified
Hi Gavin, are there any updates on this? I'm wanting to purchase the Classic 3 for wedding photography but don't want to waste my money if it's prohibited. Thanks
I've got the Flyhal FX1 Pro drone and that has the C1 clarification in bossed on the drone, under the battery and is not a sticker. Very confusing. Can be seen on half chrome, RUclips video of the drone.
For me it is good news as I will be able to fly this in EU on their registration, anyway it's strange that suddenly the weight limit flys out the window for this particular drone. After all it weighs more than Mavic AIr 2/S, and now as I understand, it can be flow in urban areas the same as a 250gr drone or less. It does not figure as it will do more damage in the event of a failure. It's only key limitation, is no intentional flight over people, all well and good but it is still flying over an urban environment with cars etc, it is still therefore of higher risk. As far as no intentional flight over people, well a drone pilot busy filming a building will hardly notice if people walk under the drone even in line of sight in an urban envoirnment as from ground level the pilots line of sight will most likely be blocked by houses/tress etc and the camera can not be pointed in two places at one time. For example if taking a photo shot or panorama or automated quick shot (busy adjusting settings), really will anyone pay attention to what people may suddenly walk underneath. They even made it more quiet to get this certification, why? so people are less likely be aware of anything above that they need to be wary of, and frankly that slight reduction is for what exactly, urban envoirnments are noisy and the drone is quiet enough not to be heard in such places. This certification bias for this model and weight is a bit dodgy. Good to fly it in urban now, I won't say I'm not happy, but I think best get some insurance to fly this in town. Maybe the drone auditors may flagrantly give it a try in London and post what happens. Or maybe that not a good idea as all get banned. I think Mavic Air 2/s owners should stage a protest against distrimination now.
But it states clearly on CAA website: Type of Drone From 1 January 2023 new drones will have to meet a set of product standards, and some may do before this date. These will be classed from C0 to C4, based on the weight and capability of the drone, and will determine how and where you can fly. Drones classed C0 or C1 can be flown in the open A1 sub category Drones classed C2 can be flown in the A2 or A3 sub category - but if flying in ‘A2’ you must pass the A2 theory exam (A2 Certificate of Competency or ‘A2 CofC’) Drones classed as C3 and C4 can only be flown in the A3 sub category
Yeahhhhh the rabbit hole goes deeper, the CAA have set out a bunch of rules which you posted that they have no system set up to regulate so everything that is currently published is subject to change.
Which just makes the drone regs with the CAA a joke. I lost any respect I had when I spent all that money getting my pfco a few years back only to find out a complete waste of time because they change things overnight. Just go fly your drone is my attitude now.
Hi sorry to bother you but I am so confused about everything. I am a mountain biker and I have been happily flying my Mavic Air 2 in the open country for the past 3 years. I have a flying ID and an Operators ID. I would like to upgrade to the Mavic 3 Classic and fly it in the countryside as before. It is on sale with lots of retailers in the UK. But having watched other videos it appears that this C1 drone has now been banned. Why is it therefore still on sale? If so will a Mavic Air2s be legal. Cheers. Stoozer.
Hi there, it’s not illegal or banned all it means it that the separation between the drone and people was supposed to come down and that side got abandoned, you can still fly the mavic 3 classic where you fly yohr air2s. Hope this helps
I hope that the CAA is gonna follow up the same regulations as they do in the EU. Even though the regulations should be the same in all the EU countries there are still different separate rules. It doesn't make things easier 😕 Kind regards from the Netherlands Gavin!🤗

It will help DJI investigate why some do and why some don’t , thank you in advance
@@stuartmartin093 its baffling, they don't understand why others do and mine does not have the label or the correct firmware, they keep telling me I can use it as the UK has no restrictions! I am trying to explain - NO we do have restrictions this is the point of the drone.
Just for simplicity, January 2024, is the mavic 3 pro able to fly to the same standards of the mini 3 and mini 4 with respect to all this ? What license do you need? Im about to buy a drone but all this license stuff is a headache. I know for the mini 3 and 4 you do some test pay £10 for a flyer id and thats it. Is that the same for the mavic 3 pro or do you still need an A2 / A1 license for it etc depending on how you're using it (in the UK)
I’m trying to understand the rules with this drone and the comparison between this and the Mini 3 Pro. Does it mean that this can be flown over residential areas/industrial like the M3P?
As it stands right now it looks like this is a C1 label drone so has the exactly the same rules as a M3P other than intentional overflight of people. If you’re sure the people in the building you are flying over are safe from your drone, you can overfly them. The main issue at the moment is that this will likely change very soon (end November 22). They could say the C1 label means nothing in the UK and the Mavic 3 Classic is just a 900g drone so without the A2 CofC you are restricted to 150m in the A3 Category. I have bought the Mavic 3 Classic myself only because, like Gavin, I fly away from people and hold the A2 CofC. If someone is buying this drone purely for the C1 benefits of separation distance, they need to wait to confirm what the CAA and DfT come up with.
What a nightmare. What I see is it is becoming increasingly discouraging to enter into hobby drones. All these rules. The US has recently black listed DJI yet it's own Police force and Intelligence services keep using them. As no doubt do the British authorities. Hi Mate, I'm thinking about buying a Mavic 3 Classic. I've owned a Mavic 2 Pro and a Air 2s in the past but I had to get rid of them unfortunately at the time. I'm trying to wrap my head around the new rules etc especially on this type of drone. What would I actually be Limited to in terms of new regs? Or would I be better off just getting the Mini 3 Pro? Thanks
If you are in the UK you would be better with the mini 3 pro - the classic with an A2 CofC would be limited to 50m away from built up areas and no overflight
@GAVINHR I very rarely flew over built up areas anyway to be honest. I usually took my old drones to places like Wales and the lakes etc to fly over lakes or mountains. I'd never fly in a city centre or above one that's why I'm wondering if the Mavic 3 would still be the better option? And if I was to on a rare occasion I think 50m wouldn't be an issue for what I'd be using it for. Thanks
Then in that case I’d certainly buy the Mavic 3 classic ! I’m exactly the same, I took some great shots of the Menai bridge Anglesey last year but with the air 2s
@GAVINHR yeah I think I might go for the Mavic 3 Classic then. Obviously people use them for different things so I'd imagine for mainly city based droners then this is an issue with the Mavic 3 not having the C1 in the UK but for people like us who tend to take them out of the way and into more open spaces I don't really think it's a big issue. Looking forward to taking it to places like Anglesey I love it there. Only about an hour 45 drive from where I am too. Thanks for the advice 👍🏻
C1 means you can fly close to people, house, buildingd etc, if it is not c1, you follow weight clasd which means u need to fly this drone 150 meteres away from people and buildings which is very annoying
The whole thing is a real mess. Be interesting to see if the Mavic Mini 3 Pro gets the official C0 class rating too, and if so will DJI send out stickers etc. Same for older drones that might still retrospectively meet their relevant class rating like the Mini 2 or Mavic 2 Pro
that would be so scummy if they did that. sold my air 2s on ebay last week and ordered a classic but waiting for it to be shipped still. another example of the nanny state over reaching. what more do they want? it c1, but still wanting to change the eu rules. i guess they aint happy until we aint happy.
Going to give the Mavic 3 classic a miss. Reason the DJI Mini 3 is still my go to drone. I'm going to wait for a future (Mini 3 Pro updated drone ) release. I'm sticking with the sub 250 gram drones for now and possibly the future. Not for everyone but ticks all my boxes. 🙂
I'm thinking if this don't work out dji should be refunding people because as far as I'm concerned or aware is that the classic was c1 labled I'm quite shocked about that. Well great update gavin look forward for a update fro you as usual great video 😁👍👌🇬🇧
@@GAVINHR I was going to sell it but now they've done the update I think I'll keep it plus with the new classic out I wouldn't get no way near what I've paid for it but be careful with the obstacle avoidance on the classic I still think the.mini 3 does better the m3 seems to be very erratic mine actually flew sideways in to a tree where the mini will just do sharp turns and follow. 😁👍👌 🇬🇧
Thanks, Gavin some very useful information I will stick with my Mini 3 pro for the moment but I think in time the laws will change again affecting all drone flyers there are some people on RUclips who are creating very negative situations for flying a drone and upsetting the general public and I think the laws will change for the worse I hope not but they are pushing the boundaries.
Hi bud, have you heard the latest news from Geeksvana? The UK will not follow EASA Regs regarding the C1 Mavic 3 Classic. This Drone will in January 2023 become a legacy drone until 2026. We the hobbyists, have now been totally shafted by the DfT and CAA. I’m in two minds whether to return the unopened Classic or not now 😢 Is there anything we can do to change the DfT minds?
Hi Lee, yes they did say in the email I quoted in my video that it’s likely to change, my personal thoughts would be to return it and save your money personally as I very much doubt anything will change at this late stage
@@GAVINHR What a shambles mate :( In all honesty tho, I have my A2CofC so if I did keep it I’d be able to fly in the A2 Cat until 2026, after that who knows. The Classic should not have been released in the UK yet with this sticker if the regulations hadn’t been finalised, as it means nothing after Dec 2022 :( urghhhh I’m so annoyed
@@GAVINHR Do you think the DfT can review this decision if enough pressure from Hobbyists and the likes of you guys making our voices heard? I honestly can’t believe I’ve just spent £1500, plus £529 on the Fly More kit as it was a Xmas present from my other half. What really annoys some, the website has still not been updated, so it’s been giving out the wrong info to people which I 100% think is unacceptable from a body like them.
Personally this isnt a drone I would get. If I watch all my older drone videos. I struggle to see the difference between videos filmed on my mini 2 or my mavic 2 pro. Even with the C1 mark this drone still cant give you the freedom that the mini 3 gives you. Apart from flying in stronger winds. The mini 3 is still the best drone out there 👍
Problem with those Mini drones though is the wind resistance as you say. Took the Mini 3 Pro to Glencoe instead of my Air 2S, biggest regret, couldn’t even fly once in the space of a week. Tried it on the calmest day and it just got battered. Got the Mavic 3 Classic now though which should handle wind as good if not better than my old M2P, genuinely can’t wait to get flying this weekend.
The C1 certification is just applicable in EU. No EU, no EU certification. Surprise, surprise, GB opted out of the EU and has now some jobs to do on its own. No offence, but that's how GB decided to live on. I am a huge fan of GB, I love your country, I love your way of life, your music and your humor. But I also think we all do much better standing side by side. Face the consequences.
I’m gonna hazard a guess that legacy will be extended indefinitely, and that CAA won’t rewrite the rule book , I hope I’m wrong and I can eat my words 😂
Just watched Tech Drone Media's update on the UK C1 classification for the Mavic 3. Bad news. A review period until 1/1/2026, with the Mavic 3 being considered a legacy drone until then. ruclips.net/video/or8r999YCE4/видео.html

I'm confused what does c1 allow or not allow?
C1 means you can fly close to people, house, buildingd etc, if it is not c1, you follow weight clasd which means u need to fly this drone 150 meteres away from people and buildings which is very annoying
looks like DJI have a inclination of the ruling before we will. Unless they had a faulty sticker machine.
Interesting thought eh!
@@DavidinEssexUK that's a good point, thanks for the clarification. I was just looking at the CAP2012 as I didn't fully understand it until now.
that would be so scummy if they did that. sold my air 2s on ebay last week and ordered a classic but waiting for it to be shipped still. another example of the nanny state over reaching. what more do they want? it c1, but still wanting to change the eu rules. i guess they aint happy until we aint happy.
Hi Ian! Yes certainly the mini 3 will take a lot of beating for its flexibility, performance and at half the cost of the mavic 3 classic!
mini 3?
DJI Mavic 3 Classic handles better in wind
Interesting findings 👍
Thanks mate, something to think about eh
C1 or not C1 don’t care, when I fly my drone I generally go to big open spaces and stay for people
I'm thinking if this don't work out dji should be refunding people because as far as I'm concerned or aware is that the classic was c1 labled I'm quite shocked about that. Well great update gavin look forward for a update fro you as usual great video 😁👍👌🇬🇧
Thanks man! So you flying the mavic 3 still?
Ouch c1 classic not recognised is the uk , will be legacy drone from 1January 2023 , glad didn’t jump on the bandwagon
Yeah I must admit it’s very frustrating 100%, this limits my audience on the drone with the UK unlikely to be interested
@@GAVINHR Think I'll stick with the M3P until UK regs become clearer
Crazy just crazy, that's all I can say at this point 🤦♂️
Yeah it’s a bit of a mess!
gavin, where did you buy yours from ?
Hi Jim, drone came from Curry’s UK since I’m not yet on DJI’s Christmas card list
@@GAVINHR i wonder if ordering direct from dji would it come with the c1 label on the drone
Sounds like another can o’ worms to me 😂
I’m gonna hazard a guess that legacy will be extended indefinitely, and that CAA won’t rewrite the rule book , I hope I’m wrong and I can eat my words 😂
That’s my personal thoughts, legacy extended with the provision for C1 drones
Just watched Tech Drone Media's update on the UK C1 classification for the Mavic 3. Bad news. A review period until 1/1/2026, with the Mavic 3 being considered a legacy drone until then. ruclips.net/video/or8r999YCE4/видео.html
Indeed it’s quite frustrating!
😇 I c one
Another + point for BREXIT. Self inflicted misery. 😜🤦♂
i get mine M3C today, WITH the C1 Sticker but my landinglights are disabled by firmwareupdate 🥲 greetings from germany
See that’s interesting as I believe lights should be on as part of C1 but mine still had the option
Where did yours ship from
@@GAVINHR i read yesterday the manual 🙈 its part of C1 to set the landing lights automaticly, no manual control. also the LEDs in front an back arms have to be on.
@@Peter-Casey mine was shipped from netherlands, i am in germany
