Yeah but overwatch is so much fun as well lol. Marvels is good... But why does the melee guy who jolts everywhere have more health than me. The guy who can run on walls. The unlimited mobility. The bullshit. Why are shields so strong? Why do some of them get so much shields.
Storm is meant to be played on ground level. The flying mechanic is meant to allow you micro-adjust and hit as many enemies as possible with her primary and alternate fires. Asgard maps have more destructible terrain because it grows back, which isn't the case on other maps.
@@bleachedpenguin6131for real when i start in the game i am flying above everyone I can't even land on the fucking ground. So nah i am def a flying character.
Honestly Marvel Rivals being just a good game, has really shown that oh shit Overwatch is actually really well polished huh... I've not given all the characters a go yet, but what you said in this video definitely rings true for me. None of the tanks I've tried feel fun :( The DPS are great! Bucky is great, SG has some nasty stun locks. I can totally see why people love Magik, Spiderman, Wolverine, Black Panther. There are some really neat takes on established OW heroes and some really cool unique ones, that i think OW could learn from. Heck I think Magik is kinda what they wanted to go for with the oiginal Hanzo+Genji Hero, but couldn't put together. The supports are fine. C&D feels like a better take on Moira, Mantis shares similarities with Zen and Ana (although it definitely feels like you can press random buttons on her), Jeff feels like a better take on Mercy or the my first support character. Deployables ehhhh. Contentious. On the one hand, it feels very natural to me to shoot the Ankh / Squid / Spider Nest / Groot Walls / Loki Clones / Rocket Turret. However, the amount of crap on screen does make Overwatch 2 blush at times, and reminds me of some of the more disliked metas of Overwatch 1. I've also been playing Overwatch since 2016, so I'm used to it. Newcomers, or people who abandoned Overwatch may not be. The maps suck. Don't mind the ideas they're going for. They're cool. However, the maps feel so samey. Every part in an Overwatch map feels unique, except for maybe Gibraltar. I daresay, Klintar might actually be my least disliked map, because it feels intuitive at least. Marvel Rivals maps are not intuituve and every corridor or side room feels the same. That's not good game design for casual players. Less casuals, less eventual whales. Take Tokyo 2099: Shin-Shibuya and Tokyo 2099: Spider Islands vs Hanamura, Hanaoka and Kanezaka. While these OW maps aren't the best in class, they're still intuitive, and for the most part you know how each nook and cranny feels. The Marvel Rivals ones I really struggle to distinguish. Yes some of that is definitely lack of experience, for sure. However, even with experience I would still struggle I think. Balance wise yeah there are obvious stinkers and problems, oh and seeing that high tier MM is going to triple tank triple support already is very concerning, however, the game is barely a month old, so I'm willing to give it a pass. I think Hero Bans is a good remedy, and actually I think MR should keep Open Queue 6v6 just so it has a USP over Overwatch and vice versa. That said, maybe a role minimum would help in the future. The potential problem with Hero Bans is power creep. If you do not nerf your characters at some point, then you will need to start power creeping with new heroes very quickly. Imagine if the next 5 dps are as powerful as Hela and Hawkeye are now. To Marvel Rivals' credit we know they're getting nerfed, so it rn it doesn't seem like they're resting on lorels of Hero Bans.
It just sucks because if they just changed a few things it would be so much more enjoyable. The game is doing fucking amazing in terms of viewership and player numbers, but the massive wave of casuals this game has won’t stick around forever after a few meta changes, the devs need to keep that in mind.
Lain you've articulated a lot of what I've been feeling about Rivals (but don't have a youtube audience to tell it to haha). It's fun, sure, but after about 30 hours of playtime I was kinda over it. I'd tried all the characters, played all the maps, experienced some offputting jank, and didn't feel that pull that would compel me to sink hundreds of hours improving and competing like I do in OW. I know Blizzard is a shell of its former self in many ways, but OW still has that "Blizzard polish" in its gamefeel that Rivals just doesn't have.
rivals didnt click with me. I liked quite a few of the characters, including jeff which isnt my type of character usually but shark go chomp and all that. Also I wish junkrat was more like squirrel girl she's such a better less annoying version of him to me its not even close I think I mostly dont like it bc of how it feels: the camera, some of the animations and sounds arent as satisfying to me, the performance is shit, hitting someone with my gun isnt as nice. I also felt like strategy wasnt as important as in OW for some reason, but that's probably bc its new. Even then when I watch higher level players I dont feel inspired to try (and fail) to do the same plays in my games. The fact that the MCU overloaded me with some of these characters also doesnt help Part of me really wants to reinstall it just to test the hero bans tho, I think thats something team 4 should really think abt. Also I NEED to test Wolverine again bc BABY IM PREYING ON YOU TONIGHTTT HUNT YOU DOWN EAT YOU ALIVE JUST LIKE ANIMALS And I just remembered my pc is shit so my wolverine is nerfed forget about it
i love both games very much and am enjoying rivals a lot compared to ow. But with that being said, rivals is undeniably more unbalanced and that’s not an opinion… that is a fact. it is imperfect and the praising of rivals character kits reveals the immense double standards present for both games. Take adam warlock, a good character in rivals that is seen as balanced (leaning strong.) If that kit was introduced to overwatch today then the entire internet would break. 2 auto lock full health burst heals, a support with great damage, a self revive, 3 health bars, a support ult on cooldown, AND A SAFER MASS REZ. And yet that character is praised in rivals. look at luna snow, a bloated kit with the best ult in the game on a support. The overwatch fan base would demolish blizzard for even conceiving of such a character. hawkeye, hela, jeff, moon knight , mantis, wanda, hulk, the list goes on. if any of those character kits were ever added to overwatch then everyone would clown on the game but rivals gets a pass because of how hated overwatch is. it made me realize that overwatch isn’t as “unbalanced” as everyone believes it to be, it’s just that they’re tired of overwatch (and that’s ok.) i’m super excited for rivals going forward but the flaws will start to emerge, they already have.
I think the only characters ow would welcome are magik and panther. Imagine blizzard releasing a nonsense character like jeff. That ult would be declared the death of ow
FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE SAID IT. People are saying that Rivals comp is more balanced and fun compared to ow because of hero bans, but the the game is still in its infancy and as time passes, metas are gonna form and people will complain about balance. Take og Hanzo for example. On release, people thought he was underpowered and ranked him quite low, but as the months passed, people realized how strong his scatter arrow was and people begged for him to be nerfed/reworked. So many characters in Rivals arguably have stronger abilities than Hanzo. Look at baptiste and his immortality field, which pros still complain about to this day, as it enabled so many broken comps over the years. Loki literally has that except it heals and he can have THREE out at a time. Give rivals ranked some time, and people will complain about balance just like in OW
@@tifoonlegit5768yeah and what doesn't help is all the damn projectiles. Like damn I'm playing storm and your telling me my projetiles is ass and they are slow but I'm supposed to shoot lighting... Why does moonknight have the hit 3 people that are together but lighting is a no go?
@jazzoj5 mr fantastic is a tank lol. Like come on he doesn't need all dem shields and doesn't need a invincibility ability dude is too much I played him died 4 times but had 15k damage and 14k blocked damage. That's ridiculous manye. Also he turns big and does so much damage to people and his range is humongous. Ult is fast bouncy ball. Invisible woman ult is to much basically a healing area that makes it hard for enemies to see you but most likely you won't die anyway. Can't the devs find another use for supports ults? Like an Anna, kirko, even mercy ult is better as you can still die easier, zen ult is short so it's for a good push. I been back on overwatch and perhaps I was to harsh.
No matter your opinion on how good or bad Marvel Rivals is (I personally really like it), its existence and its mass adoption is only a good thing for both parties. For the people who like it more than Overwatch, they get a good game. For the people who prefer Overwatch over Marvel Rivals, the games success puts pressure on blizzard to get off their ass and actually improve the game to try to reel players back in. It’s a win either way.
16:43 ..... I'm sorry but overwatch is literally suffering from the exact same problems but even worse because they have immortalities that make using ults riskier than it should be
Rivals literally has 3x more immortality abilities than OW. Have you noticed how Hulk's bubble is basically kiriko's suzu but even less interesting? But when people see hulk using it, they say it's brilliant, for some reason
marvel rivals fans MAD in the comments because they can’t accept criticism about this game. rivals isn’t a perfect game at all and the majority of people that praise are just doing it out of spite not because they actually like it. sure the game is fun, but the movement is EXTREMELY slow and clunky, the sound mixing is really bad, visual clutter all around, a lot of guns sound the same so most of the time idk who’s shooting at me and from where, WAY too much cc to the point where i just refuse to play tank or melee heroes because im going to get cc’d every second, monetization is just as bad as overwatch (literally the same prices), and for me personally the biggest gripe is no role lock which makes the game pretty unbalanced and chaotic. all of these are a matter of opinion but i definitely don’t enjoy the game as much as others do (not sure if most people that actually say they enjoy it mean it or just say it to spite OW) and i don’t see myself playing this game competitively. ive only touched comp for two days and haven’t played it since, just casual QP matches here and there. i hope they balance some heroes, increase movement speed, do something about the cc and introduce some form of role lock to organize and polish the game more, it needs some serious optimization and work to be in a well rounded state.
I view role lock as a preventive meseasure to both toxic player interaction auto lose comps, and balancr issues. When you know in other games how many of each character rile can be out it allows for easier balance. We will reach a point eventually when one role becomes the odd one out and not viewed as neccessary. The game just needs some more hybrid characters and mr F looks like a hybrid tank dps. So we are on our way. 😂
How is Rivals slow when almost all Overwatch characters move at the same speed? Rivals has WAY more vertical mobility and dash abilities with short cooldowns. My biggest gripe with Overwatch is that you can get stuck on tiny map decorations. How is that competitive? I hate watching my death replay and seeing my character not be able to walk backwards into cover because of a lamp post or a bench. In Rivals all of these small decorations get destroyed just by walking into them. At least in Apex if I want to get to high ground I can just climb the nearest wall. In Overwatch I have to take 10 seconds to walk all the way around to some stairs hidden in an alley. In Rivals I can just...dash upwards. How is that slower? How is that clunky?
@@1Shayz1u can’t do that with every hero and overwatch is a more grounded game in that expect it’s different not really a problem but the game is clunky ash feel rushed like cheap idk i like moon knight but his glide and tether rope is so damn slow and janky
12:50 I'm pretty sure that death is because of lag and not a game issue. I have used the shotgun point blank a bunch of times and there's also been times I've been poking at distance and nothing hits because I'm lagging like crazy, which isnt rare because the game doesn't have a server close enough to the UK IMO.
They saying it's great the meoee characters having all that mobility is fun. Def love those ults that make you go... Oop better just run away cause its luna ult.@@Raytheman581
Rivals has mass appeal becuase its causal and easy. But the lack of role requirment make low level elo ganes awful. Healing is too much. Tanks are dull. Need more maps desperately. Need to fix the frames per second equaling massive advantage. Need to remove bot matches. Not a fan of how strong teamups are and the forced synergy.
Low ELO is a breeze to get through if you have an inkling of flexibility and social skills. You don't need 2-2-2 comp in most games and heck tanks are basically optional. Supps are necessary unfortunately bc they don't have the paladins Regen that ow copied. The reason why id give rivals so much leeway is bc of intent. They are intentional not putting role queue bc they want more fluid roles like wolverine and Mr F if you've seen his trailer video.
@@kennedyogbedeagu8913 acting like team comps are losing games due to a lack of roles is ignoring how people actually play the game. This game is far easier to carry than say ow or valorant but nit being able to play ehat you want due to team comp isnt fun. And theres no execuse for the fps issue. That would kill many games reputatuons. As for mr. F yeah a dps wuth that much tank potential isnt gonna go well balance wise. Thats where issues like goats start wheb you make characters tyat do too much and rivals already has high dps supports and now we are getting high tank dps. I dont think this game currebtlt has a long term high elo future. Mainly vecuase it wants to lean so hard casual.
I was trying to give rivals its flowers and not be too negative there, I play with someone who we aren’t allowed to portal around if they’ll crash lmao
Just wanted to say thank you for balanced view here cause all the reviews on RUclips seem to say nothing negative about marvel rivals and all games have pros and cons and you are right the game satisfaction feels very different than overwatch everything feels less impactful in rivals it is a very fun game for sure but something about the polish of the game itself feels half done but they can fix some of these issues but thanks again for having a balanced view of the game it's a great game but not the best game ever made like all the other reviews seem to say
I appreciate you for being honest. you are entitled to your opinion and that is to be respected. feels like most content creators just say its great like everyone else.
Sounds like you want a different genre of game, tanks are tanks that’s why they don’t deal loads of damage. Some characters need to be simpler to play or you won’t entice lower skilled players to play the game
The issue is if you balance and make the game catered lower skilled players… they are fighting a losing battle. Lower skilled players or the ‘casuals’ if you will do not stick around the same game forever. After a couple of meta changes it usually becomes too much for them to keep up with and they move on to the next big game that their favorite streamers are hyping up.
Since I love 3rd person games more that point was never a problem - it's the main reason I play this and never touched Overwatch. Well that and the IP ofc. A bit of hot takes in here but I respect it, even if I don't agree. :)
at first, overwatch took a lot of criticism due to them not dealing with balancing appropriately (let's be real, games will never be balanced as players get better), then the flaws were higher ups not listening (PvE cancellation and all) Overwatch is like a girlfriend, and blizzard is your father in law. you love you girlfriend, and hate your in laws it will take time to see how rival's parents will behave, and how the Devs from rivals will react to criticism something to account is that rivals will be more popular than overwatch simply by being marvel IP. even if the game loses some of its originality, or takes a similar path like overwatch, then the IP is the biggest difference right now, rivals is a new game, nobody knows the metas or how to play the characters, or the engine that well. time after time, the game will get funneled, and players will abuse game mechanics one of the things overwatch suffers from, is the time the players had to play, and the knowledge about the game being gathered for almost a decade, something rivals might suffer from in a near future like the girlfriend analogy: overwatch has baggage, rivals still don't. soon it will rivals is the new hot chick we all need to know before doing praises, or criticizing right away ps: role queue isn't a balance issue, it's a people issue. you can have no role and have an unstable team, or have role lock: lower flexibility, but guaranteed consistency if rivals want to keep open queue, they have to do the impossible, and make vanguard/strategist as fun as duelists. this isn't a game issue, it's a human issue. I say that, because in overwatch, I never played anything besides tank as it was the only way I won games. very similar things happen in other mobas, so I doubt marvels won't suffer from it
They don't need to make people play vanguard/strategist, they need to make people okay with their teammates not playing them. In OW where comps are forced people still flame you for playing the wrong heroes even though both teams are guaranteed to have a "balanced" comp. That said it would help if there weren't double the amount of dps as anything else. Less unique heroes = less chances for anyone to fall in love with a character design.
you can literally watch the mr season 1 dev vision video, theyve already given more of their own voice to the community than overwatch has in 2 years. They want to hear it all
@@kjc19004 Naw luna snow is good in general, she has a freeze and she does good damage. Also I didn't say take her ult away, making it like 5 or 6 seconds would still keep her in the same place pretty much.
@@Raytheman581 i wasnt implying you said take her ult away i was just putting in perspective that thats the main reason why she is picked , youre saying tune it down but its her best tool and the best ult in the game , no healer is bad but her ult is what makes her great
@@kjc19004 I realize that, but my point is she still would be good with it nerfed. Its great in general, but the time it lasts is the problem. its like 12 seconds for real, making it 6 would be balanced. It would still basically work as a ult that saves in the same with, but having teams with her and mantis popping ults back to back just isn't good for the game. They should make a nerf that if you pair both together the healing isn't as strong lol.
The 3rd person perspective killed it for me, that and the team combos that made me feel like I were playing an incomplete character if not playing a combo.
a lot of your critiques are from personal preference rather than mechanical issues with the game Given your preferences, it makes sense why you’re not enjoying rivals as much but I don’t feel like rivals needs to “fix” that
If only Marvel Rivals didnt mess up the one archetype I like the most: scoped snipers. Widowmaker is still the best. And Black Widow is not only just worse but overall a failed design for the archetype. In countless shooter games there are scoped snipers whose headshots instantly kill. Except in Marvel Rivals where supposedly "everyone is OP" and "hero identity" is at the core. It is the weakest scoped sniper ever. A complete and utter design failure. Who thinks headshotting scoped shots just allows everyone to walk away while the sniper has to wait forever to reload, not even powerup like widowmaker who can shoot earlier before reaching full charge . Also healing is way overpowered in Marvel Rivals. Which makes it feels much worse to not ne able to oneshot anything on your own. I hope Black Widow gets a complete rework into a hybrid like bucky. This version of scoped sniper they have in Marvel Rivals is just a wasted slot in the roster.
Well actually you don't have to aim to shoot with black widow so she got that going for her. Although she shoots less damage from hit you can possibly quick scope aa this is accurate if your good but she has a higher chance if killing if caught slacking.... In overwatch. In thus game every melee guy getting shields and so is slightly anniying.
Honestly I get the criticism. If you play competitively (like the mindset not the mode) I'm sure the more casual focus of the game can make it frustrating to play. But this is exactly why I prefer it to Overwatch. Last time I played comp in Overwatch extensively was in comp season 3 in OW1 and I maxed out in plat but mostly hovered in Gold/Silver. I do not play all that seriously, I play all of the hyper-mobile characters with unique abilities, I main Doom and Genji in Overwatch. And honestly as Overwatch has gone on it seems like they've balanced the game more and more for good/pro players, which is fine, but for me specifically that turns me off from the game because I, as dogshit Genji player No.5673, do not have the mechanical skill or positioning to perfect combo the Moira that's killing me from 15m away and can disappear into thin air or heal herself instantly should I manage to hit her. Marvel Rivals, to me, is a perfect balance of the bullshit. When I get killed by Scarlet Witch's beam, it's still a bullshit ability, but I'm playing Iron Fist who also has like 12 bullshit ways to kill of his own, so I don't feel cheated (and Marvel Rivals has the decency to put Scarlet witch in the Duellist category instead of putting up the façade that Moira mains like to heal people instead of strangling babies in their free time.) Also, these deaths don't feel as annoying because many of the characters (especially the ones that I play) have movement abilities which means that it's quicker to get back after dying, so you don't spend as much time thinking about how "I totally deflected on my screen this is bullshit" and more time like "I can't wait to solo ult that guy that killed me with Iron Man's pulse cannon." My only real complaints on Marvel Rivals are about how the challenges require you to get lucky (e.g. team up with this character or play on this map, but the team up challenges are one-way only and you can't search by for specific maps when matchmaking) and how janky the movement can be at times (e.g. multiple characters' wall climb abilities get stuck on small ledges or don't activate at all, or how flying characters can go over the top of certain buildings but not others even when they're the same size.) The gameplay and general casual nature remind me a lot of the PvZ Garden Warfare games to be honest which is definitely a good thing.
5 years of playing OW daily here. Over those years I've primarily played competitive and I've been hardstuck every rank from Bronze to Masters. Can't seem to get over the hump to GM but hey I'm 43 years old. Masters aint so bad for an old man 😂. Anyhow, while I agree with some of your takes I personally prefer playing Rivals. Overwatch definitely takes more mechanical skill HOWEVER Rivals offers more skill expression. Maybe I'm just burnt out on OW Rivals is just a shiny new toy. Maybe it's the practically non-existent match queue times. All I know for sure is that enjoying the hell out of Rivals. I won't stop playing OW. But it definitely takes a backseat now.
Had to subscribe. I’ve been looking for someone who isn’t just saying this games praises and has a more nuanced view. I feel like because I also like Overwatch ppl just tell me that I’m not valid for giving criticism as if I don’t also like this game lol
It bugs me that half the roster can cancel they're reload after half way and the other half need to complete it but you have to test it yourself to work it out since theres no real indicator as to why.
thats common in a lot of shooters, you can do it on ana in OW for example until a couple years back COD games had this with most weapons too, I wouldn't hold that against MR I actually kind of like stuff like this
@@pigeon_9161 Yeah I'm not holding it against it just kinda wish everyone could do it I guess is all I really mean. Like why can Punisher and Squirrel Girl do it at 50%, Widow and Star Lord can do it at 75% but Storm, Hela, Psylocke, Iron Man, Winter Soldier and Moon Knight can't? Jeff the only Strategist that can? Strange can, Magneto can't? Idk guess it adds to the skill ceiling and works as a bit of balance but I just feel like it's a little unintuitive and confusing personally. It is what it is though and that's cool. I do wonder if it'll get changed when they try to fix the fps issues.
Your criticisms is more nitpicky after the 11:00 mark. People like the 3rd person because it’s their favorite heroes duking it out, like smashing action figures together (same with Fortnite).
Thank you for actually giving some valid criticism of the game. It’s annoying online right now seeing how anything remotely critical about the game is labeled as hating or being an Overwatch shill. Seems like the game is maintaining a solid player base, so this will probably go on for a decent chunk of time. But God, some of these Marvel Rivals fanboys are insufferable.
Too many shields and abilities that give invulnerability? Are you for real? Not only are there way less directly defensive abilities like that in the game, NONE of them offer invuln. All of the shields can be broken, many of them quite easily (i.e. Hulks shield). Even Luna can be burst down during her ult if people focus her for a bit. It's one of the things that ruined OW and that MR avoided.
I agree with the first person angle with you, because I feel like I'm that character and I'm in the game, where in 3rd person I'm constantly reminded that im playing an videogame
As someone who came from OverWatch & a Marvel Fan Rivals for being New in the Hero Shooter space is definitely better in alot of Aspects Compared to OW yea it has it flaws but let's be honest here every New game will have em. I definitely have to disagree with the takes on the Maps & the 3rd person view felt like you are kinda bad at the game n just wanted to complain about it knowing what the Game was going to be alr its a silly thing to complain about in my opinion, its like getting fixed a sandwich but then complaining about the sandwich that u ordered just bc😂
I love both games, and recently ive jumped back to OW to see whats up and it doesnt take long to get into a match and i can feel the weight of each role compared to marvel. Marvel for now isnt strong in the balance part and maybe thats its thing and thats fine. they both can coexist with one being more for competitive and the other for fun, i saw someone mention if they intend to push lots of characters out quickly, it could be like LoL and have a ton characters without a real goal of balance in mind, it is like he said a live service and to keep people invested, new characters will bring people in and im sure eventually new modes. Cash shop is no different however i do appreciate the .99 for 100 that way i dont have to pay a full 5-10 extra for just a few points off, however pricing is close to the same and id like to see quick button mapped for saying hello or voice lines like OW but that maybe a while. anyways thanks for not sugar coating it and giving us a real insight.
ps, i wish theyd add a shoulder switch so im not always looking over my rightside especially when you can look around the corner easier without them seeing you thru the right side giving in some cases an advantage vs the left side.
Most of the characters kits in rivals just have much so more depth and insanely interesting gameplay loops. Like they weren't afraid to make complex hero's. Overwatch 's kits to me just feel so bland and simplified compared to this game. Not to mention the melee focused DPS in this game to me are so much fun and have skillful kits. 1/3 of the roster on Overwatch are just legit cheese characters whereas this game there's so little. And yes sustain is bad but at least if you get on a healer you can kill them without going through 3 imo abilities. They just have 1 sorta skill shot cc.
Overwatch cheese character is what moira? Rovals has 2 moira esque characters and multiple other non melee characters that dont require aim. Moonknight anyone? Dont even get me syarted on how anti skill IF is with his auto lock tracking.
If overwatch puts in a complicated hero (like hazard) he gets called over kitted. Also why do we act like every support has an immo when it's literally just bap + Kiri
I mean. OW heroes used to have more depth or that dreaded buzzword "hero identity", but it got removed in the course of the swap to 5v5 for a lot of heroes. Lots of Rivals heroes feel one note in comparison. Adam is a less interesting version of Mercy, no movement tech and boring dmg instead of unique beam management. Iron Fist is a bland version of Genji outside of his ability to target flying heroes. Squirrel Girl is pretty much a less interesting version of Junkrat. I think Tracer's cooldown management is more interesting than Starlord's, same for ult. Hela is literally just the OW formula of dmg primary, burst dmg E, movement/invuln Shift, big dmg Ult. Groot has walls and... walls, the only depth comes from how often he has them compared to Mei who otherwise has/had a lot more going on. I don't really see what people mean by "depth" here, the kits are very one-note, yes they fully commit to hitting that one note (unlike OW2) but that doesn't mean that they're complex, that means that simple kits can still be fun as long as they do something unique.
@ when I say depth I mean the kits have more abilities, they weren't afraid to make them complex. More opportunities to min/max and express skill. Both games have good and bad examples but across the board rivals has more good and more fun gameplay loops. Your character comparisons don't make really any sense because those characters aren't intended to play anything like the respective ow ones (except squirrel girl but no one cares abt her)
I don't want to feel like the character I'm playing unless it's a nameless, 1 out of 100 soldier. I prefer the feeling of controlling the character. Like Arthur in RDR2, I don't want to feel like Arthur, I want to watch how his story unfolds around him. But in a game like Battlefield (prior to BFV, BF1 and 4 specifically), I like the first person perspect for gameplay reasons mainly, but also, because I wanna feel like the nameless soldiers who makes a small contribution to the battle and then dies. That's why I hate BF2042 (3rd person pov wouldn't fix that game, just FYI). All that said, if gameplay suffers because of the POV, then I won't like that POV in that game regardless.
That’s a good point, it’s a much different story for single player, character/narrative driven games. I 100% agree, I’m watching someone else’s story in RDR
A lot of what you say I don't disagree with, but I'm glad its good and not great, because most of the games we called great aren't games I actualy liked to play long term. Dragonball sparking zero was called great and better than xenoverse, but sparking zero has died far faster and xenoverse is still being played more than sparking zero is. Personally my real issues are with the PC version of the game, and I hope they fix it for people. I play on console only now because of that.
@@why8642there’s no point here, people like this don’t actually care about marvel rivals, or the health of the genre. The more we validate them, the worse rival’s perception will eventually become, and they’ll kill the game they claim to love.
@@Chinesetakeout382 Yeah, some other scholar would probably say spread love not hate. Rivals is fun! But it’s casual and that’s ok, there are definitely flaws, but I’m having so much fun that I’m grinding achievements. And I probably won’t play it competitively, because of several reasons (many are stated in the video). I still love OW, and I do my dailies, lord knows it’s my main hero shooter. Obligatory “Holy shit two cakes!”
The clash between hero fantasy from established characters against holding to principle moba/game design principles will absolutely have a clash. I do appreciate how some flexibility to existing design fitting to what it can for hero fantasy (example, existing design of invulnerability shielding and hero fantasy of being strong and nigh unstoppable with Hulks bubble/aoe bubble shield. Outside of that interesting and solid points otherwise.
Sincerely as a Day 1 overwatch player who still loves the game, A lot of these criticisms are just personal preferences or lack of experience with Rivals which is cool! Just hoping the audience u have here treat opinions as opinions rather than objective fact but that might be a big ask from the internet lol
Or there are just things that people genuinely don’t like about the game. I get the game is getting almost universal praise right now and viewership and player count is through the roof, but you still can’t expect everyone to love the game right?
I really disagree with a ton of statements in this video. Probably the worst game I've ever seen on Rivals yet. You sound like those games review companies
13:20 I still have to see if I adapt to 3rd person, but that's the biggest reason I don't like 3rd person shooters. Fortnite is really cool, but the 3rd person kinda screws me over 11:45 I don't buy many skins in overwatch, as it's a 1st person shooter, however, blizzard excells in making skins and how they convey personality throughout animation. you really feel a little bit more into the characters. there's a video from New Frame Plus that shows it perfectly ruclips.net/video/7Dga-UqdBR8/видео.htmlsi=ihJ9oN3SXhnlTWfh
Rivals shows a lot of Overwatch's strengths in comparison but I think casual players are tired of Overwatch for understandable reasons.
That’s rather counter intuitive
@@bleachedpenguin6131for real when i start in the game i am flying above everyone I can't even land on the fucking ground. So nah i am def a flying character.
Honestly Marvel Rivals being just a good game, has really shown that oh shit Overwatch is actually really well polished huh...
I've not given all the characters a go yet, but what you said in this video definitely rings true for me.
None of the tanks I've tried feel fun :(
The DPS are great!
Oh well, nothing lost, no game is meant for everyone.
Dude i got 46 hours and taking a break i got 500 hours in overwatch 2 and i took long breaks in thet one skipped season with the hanzo znd orisa.
rivals didnt click with me. I liked quite a few of the characters, including jeff which isnt my type of character usually but shark go chomp and all that. Also I wish junkrat was more like squirrel girl she's such a better less annoying version of him to me its not even close
I think I mostly dont like it bc of how it feels: the camera, some of the animations and sounds arent as satisfying to me, the performance is shit, hitting someone with my gun isnt as nice. I also felt like strategy wasnt as important as in OW for some reason, but that's probably bc its new. Even then when I watch higher level players I dont feel inspired to try (and fail) to do the same plays in my games. The fact that the MCU overloaded me with some of these characters also doesnt help
Part of me really wants to reinstall it just to test the hero bans tho, I think thats something team 4 should really think abt. Also I NEED to test Wolverine again bc

i love both games very much and am enjoying rivals a lot compared to ow.
The balancing really needs improving, there are a bunch of straight up busted characters
16:43 ..... I'm sorry but overwatch is literally suffering from the exact same problems but even worse because they have immortalities that make using ults riskier than it should be
he’s an overwatch sexual… Rival’s is better in every single aspect. Playerbase and hype don’t lie

The game just needs some more hybrid characters and mr
F looks like a hybrid tank dps.
I love when people actually give critique about a game and not blindly say nothing is wrong because they’re dissing the other game
So basically everyone then? Cause no one is saying the game is perfect, no one.
13:34 We all seen some clips where people just crash cuz of that portal lmao

@LainHemingway LMAO
Honestly overwatch deserves this 😂
Sounds like you want a different genre of game, tanks are tanks that’s why they don’t deal loads of damage. Some characters need to be simpler to play or you won’t entice lower skilled players to play the game
They deal loads of damage tho if i tank can aim it will kill you before you kill it... Unless your capt vs hela
I don't like this game either it runs much worse than overwatch, and personally I don't think it's well balanced or much fun by comparrison.
at first, overwatch took a lot of criticism due to them not dealing with balancing appropriately (let's be real, games will never be balanced as players get better), then the flaws were higher ups not listening (PvE cancellation and all)
Overwatch is like a girlfriend, and blizzard is your father in law. you love you girlfriend, and hate your in laws
it will take time to see how rival's parents will behave, and how the Devs from rivals will react to criticism
something to account is that rivals will be more popular than overwatch simply by being marvel IP. even if the game loses some of its originality, or takes a similar path like overwatch, then the IP is the biggest difference
right now, rivals is a new game, nobody knows the metas or how to play the characters, or the engine that well. time after time, the game will get funneled, and players will abuse game mechanics
one of the things overwatch suffers from, is the time the players had to play, and the knowledge about the game being gathered for almost a decade, something rivals might suffer from in a near future
like the girlfriend analogy: overwatch has baggage, rivals still don't. soon it will
rivals is the new hot chick we all need to know before doing praises, or criticizing right away
ps: role queue isn't a balance issue, it's a people issue. you can have no role and have an unstable team, or have role lock: lower flexibility, but guaranteed consistency
if rivals want to keep open queue, they have to do the impossible, and make vanguard/strategist as fun as duelists. this isn't a game issue, it's a human issue.
They want to hear it all
I enjoy Rivals but healing is too strong. My favorite part is all the melee heroes tho. I wish OW had more.
Healing is to strong for luna, if you nerf her ult it would be okay honestly.
@@Raytheman581thats literally all she has tho lol , if you take out ults shes a bottom 2 healer
Huh?😭
Rivals is basically the Fortnite of hero shooters. No one would call Fortnite the perfect game, but it is one of the most popular
And it can be really fun, or incredibly sweaty and toxic
I agree with a lot of what u said and I like first person more usually.
Deniers (stuns, sleep, etc) feel less annoying than OW. And because all chaos you dont get grouped when under the effect.
I kinda want more cc to slow this fucking iron fist down.
a lot of your critiques are from personal preference rather than mechanical issues with the game
Given your preferences, it makes sense why you’re not enjoying rivals as much but I don’t feel like rivals needs to “fix” that
Fix mobility or add CD to mobility.
And they why is luna un unstoppable in her ult.
I would have disagreed until you went crazy on Black Panther so I agree with everything now
If only Marvel Rivals didnt mess up the one archetype I like the most: scoped snipers.
And yes she needs her ine shot cause its some bullshit i want to main her but damn it hard
When I get killed by Scarlet Witch's beam, it's still a bullshit ability, but I'm playing Iron Fist who also has like 12 bullshit ways to kill of his own, so I don't feel cheated (and Marvel Rivals has the decency to put Scarlet witch in the Duellist category instead of putting up the façade that Moira mains like to heal people instead of strangling babies in their free time.) Also, these deaths don't feel as annoying because many of the characters (especially the ones that I play) have movement abilities which means that it's quicker to get back after dying, so you don't spend as much time thinking about how "I totally deflected on my screen this is bullshit" and more time like "I can't wait to solo ult that guy that killed me with Iron Man's pulse cannon."
My only real complaints on Marvel Rivals are about how the challenges require you to get lucky (e.g. team up with this character or play on this map, but the team up challenges are one-way only and you can't search by for specific maps when matchmaking) and how janky the movement can be at times (e.g. multiple characters' wall climb abilities get stuck on small ledges or don't activate at all, or how flying characters can go over the top of certain buildings but not others even when they're the same size.) The gameplay and general casual nature remind me a lot of the PvZ Garden Warfare games to be honest which is definitely a good thing.
It bugs me that half the roster can cancel they're reload after half way and the other half need to complete it but you have to test it yourself to work it out since theres no real indicator as to why.
thats common in a lot of shooters, you can do it on ana in OW for example
until a couple years back COD games had this with most weapons too, I wouldn't hold that against MR I actually kind of like stuff like this
@@pigeon_9161 Yeah I'm not holding it against it just kinda wish everyone could do it I guess is all I really mean.

Cash shop is no different however i do appreciate the .99 for 100 that way i dont have to pay a full 5-10 extra for just a few points off, however pricing is close to the same and id like to see quick button mapped for saying hello or voice lines like OW but that maybe a while. anyways thanks for not sugar coating it and giving us a real insight.
ps, i wish theyd add a shoulder switch so im not always looking over my rightside especially when you can look around the corner easier without them seeing you thru the right side giving in some cases an advantage vs the left side.
nicely put, started playing ow2 and rivals at the same time, i believe that ow2 is more polished, while rivals has bigger ups and downs
I agree with everything you said. Rivals is casual silly fun. But I just can’t take 3rd person shooters seriously
You shouldn't take any video game seriously...
So that's why Concord has shut down and XDefiant is in the process of shutting down. Apparently 2serious4them
Most of the characters kits in rivals just have much so more depth and insanely interesting gameplay loops.
So many characters in rivals are cheese characters that people don't even see them as cheese character anymore
Your character comparisons don't make really any sense because those characters aren't intended to play anything like the respective ow ones (except squirrel girl but no one cares abt her)
Least pretentious fence sitter be like:
Bro said Overwatch ttk was too long.
Very lucid takes
A lot of what you say I don't disagree with, but I'm glad its good and not great, because most of the games we called great aren't games I actualy liked to play long term. Dragonball sparking zero was called great and better than xenoverse, but sparking zero has died far faster and xenoverse is still being played more than sparking zero is.
Personally my real issues are with the PC version of the game, and I hope they fix it for people. I play on console only now because of that.
Still better than trash Overwatch
“Ask a Marvel Rivals fan what they like about it, and they start talking about Overwatch”
- Sun Tzu, probably.
@@why8642 I read that same argument under TF2 videos lol
@@why8642cry more it’s better
Same sentiment here.. fun but doesnt make my heart race like ow.. after 1-2 games im done with it for the day.
You sound like a bias Overwatch player grasping for straws with their takes. I respect your opinion though.
You sound like a bias Overwatch hater who can’t accept it’s strengths or rivals flaws
What i got in this video: Overwatch fans coping that another game has spotlight
what i got in this video: people like different games.

Soooooo you want them to recreate the entire game in first person? That’s not a reasonable request
He did not even get close to saying that
This guy is grasping for straws in a lot of his criticisms
Exactly my point lol
Or there are just things that people genuinely don’t like about the game. I get the game is getting almost universal praise right now and viewership and player count is through the roof, but you still can’t expect everyone to love the game right?
I totally agree. I’m really enjoying the game right now but in terms of long term Overwatch is definitely better
Wow i've never seen such a wrong opinion before. Crazy.
This video is just dumb, go play OW
This video is horrible. Another somewhat common L from Lain.
this is an OW lovers cry party bye bye babies we are having fun 😁
2 seconds and no views, bro fell off
1. This joke is dead
2. It was never funny to begin with
Overwatch in 2025 lol 😂
I really disagree with a ton of statements in this video. Probably the worst game I've ever seen on Rivals yet. You sound like those games review companies
It’s probably the only video you’ve seen that was fair and actually able to criticize the game. It’s not perfect
13:20 I still have to see if I adapt to 3rd person, but that's the biggest reason I don't like 3rd person shooters. Fortnite is really cool, but the 3rd person kinda screws me over
11:45 I don't buy many skins in overwatch, as it's a 1st person shooter, however, blizzard excells in making skins and how they convey personality throughout animation. you really feel a little bit more into the characters. there's a video from New Frame Plus that shows it perfectly
