I have owned several bikes over numerous decades. This bike is, by far, my favorite. Nearly maintenance free. Ya' don't have to haul out a massive dresser for short trips. Tons of power for long hauls on the highway. Almost too much power for safe entry level beginners but doable. On the used market these are a great buy and replacement parts are easy to find. Went to the Harley shop other day and all he guys were talking about how fast these bikes are. I know it’s faster than my shadow 750 I had, my hurricane and my 650 ninja. My other bikes were dirt bikes. To date the fastest bike I’ve actually owned
50% of your problem is the aftermarket seat. 100% its pushing you forward so they could get more padding in it. The oem seat is perfect. I am 6ft 260lbs with zero comfort issues. The battery drops from the bottom. You just need clearance underneath. I can see why you did it while the tire is off though.
low mounted battery also helps keep center of gravity low which equals more stability, esp at slow speeds. if i haven't yet aged out of motorscooting after sixty years 100 thou plus miles and many diff machines, this would be among top three or four choices for my next bike. odd that three on my list would be suzukis ~ but they do make lovely machines.
I'm 66 years old and 5'8" with short legs (29" inseam) and the mid controls are fine for me. I am comfortable both with the seating position and the handlebars on it for trips at least up to some 250-300 miles. The reason I bought it is just because it is a small, not overly heavy bike. I wouldn't, in fact, mind getting an even smaller, lighter, bike. So, everything this vlogger dislikes is a pro for me. Great bike that I put 2000 miles on in the last 3 months alone.
I just bought a 1995 VS800, 6217 miles on it. Cruises around like a dream. Had a windscreen put on it and air deflectors on the front forks. Needs a little TLC but gets around really well.
I had one of these as my first street bike, I’ve had dual sports before that. I sold it for a Harley super glide, witch was a bigger cruiser. I actually liked my Suzuki way more than the Harley. Keep in mind im 6’2. My advice is, try out the bike, if it feels a bit uncomfortable or to small or etc. don’t buy it, if it’s like that on a test ride it’ll be miserable on longer trips.
The Suzuki intruder series ran from 1985 to 2005. And actually it consisted of 700 CC and 1400 CC models. I believe that in 1987 or 1988 the 700 was increased to a 750. In 1992 the 750 became an 800 and has been 800 until 2005. The 1400 model ran from 1985 to 2005. If you got that bike for $500 you got a real deal buddy. I have ridden Suzuki Intruders for 15 years. I would be definitely interested in buying it if you don't like it.
I have a 2009 Suzuki Intruder 1400 (s83) 3100 miles on it - The last year they made them. Rode a Harley for 10 years, an FLH, through the 90s - The 1400 is a fun ride and pulls pretty damn good. Good for long hauls as well, with a small windshield and some saddle bags.
Then why the hell did you buy it? Did you even sit on it before you bought it? You're just a fool because you paid money for something that would never be right for you.
I’m 6’2” and I have a mustang aftermarket seat and a set of forward controls on it and it’s super comfortable the mustang seat sits back a little further then the stock seat and the forward controls give me an extra 5” toward on the pegs the seat was a bit pricey but the forward controls only cost about $200 I also loosened my bars and twisted them forward a bit
I don't know what planet you came from, this is one of the nicest and most comfortable FAST bike I've very ridden and at 73yrs old that's been a while. It's simply a mater of preference.
I love the look of this bike... buckhorn bars, skinny front tire and tank, king and queen seat... always wanted one... and then I sat on one and it felt awkward because of those controls. Forward controls are expensive for it or you have to get creative or just have highway pegs... and I’m 5’7.... still think they’re cool as hell.. 1400s offer more comfort but are more rare

The riding im adjusting to in comparison, but I'm seeing it is not as uncomfortable as i thought, muscles seem to be already adjusting. I stretch a lot on stops and i put my leg up on the extra pegs alot. Not a super stretch but it helps... In my current situation its way better than not riding and its an awesome bike. One day i will get a more stretched out bike but this will happily do for now. But I feel this video because Im about 6.ft/6ft.1.

Actually this guy is quite in the dark on this bike. The 800 is a great beginners to intermediate bike they are not really uncomfortable to ride. In opposition to what he says about the handlebars they are old school and fit ok. The power is plenty sufficient even with a big rider. On the other hand the 1400 is a Real Beast. Definitely not a beginners bike, when you twist the throttle on it you had better know how to hang on. The design of these bikes are fabulous. The ONLY drawback is the tank is only around 3.5 gal so.carry a couple extra gallons and you are in business. I have had two of the 1400's and love'em.
Hey fella, why don't you try moving up to the 1400, it gives a little more leg room. And oh by the way the reason the model lasted so long was because of it's classic look (it's beautiful) not to mention the fact that it is pretty much bulletproof. Duh!
I've been riding motorcycles since I was 10 on my uncles farm. That's 54 years ago. I never listen to anyone that rides in shorts and sandles. That's such an American idiosyncrasie. I currently own and ride a 2000 intruder 800,...factory custom paint job. Which I picked up for $1300. Yes it's not the best bike in the world, No bike is ! But it's a damn sight better and faster than an 883 . I am always getting good comments from people which surprises me considering " so many people just like this guy,..hate them " Personally,.... if you're riding ,...no matter what your riding,...your worth riding with !
I bought a 1997 Suzuki Intuder new. It came with a defective crankcase and leaked oil. It was under warranty the crankcase was replaced with 2 defective crankcases before Suzuki sent out a crankcase that supposedly wasnt defective. After installation the crankcase still leaked oil. The 1st riding season into the 2nd riding season that bike spent more time in the shop than on the road. I spoke to Suzuki about this many times and they didnt see it as a problem and never compensated me for it. Whats the point of my comment? NEVER BUY SUZUKI......EVER!
I bought my first Intruder because it's so beautiful. I couldn't find anything that compared and all the other bikes were hundreds of pounds heavier. I've had Harleys and several were beautiful also but so heavy they were dangerous for my daughters. I had a 1400 and it weighed 200 lbs more and accelerated slower with a top speed a mile or two faster, but this is a cruiser. I hurt my back in Vietnam and this bike is perfect for me. I don't find the 700, 750 or 800, and I've had 5 of them, a starter bike or kid's bike at all. They are fast and agile and beautiful. I am 6'2" and should get a forward control kit but I mostly ride around town so for short rides I suck it up. The kits cost $149 to $240, not 600. I would NEVER preface a bike review by saying This will be a totally unbiased review but I don't like this bike. I've ridden bikes since I was 15 and I'm 79 and this is my favorite motorcycle of them all. Don't like the drag or pullback bars? Change them. Need to stretch your legs get forward controls and a Corbin seat. The bike is strong, reliable, easy to put a clutch in and will run a long time. The reason it was in production a long time is because a lot of people like its looks and characteristics.
I'm 5'3" and this bike is the perfect size. Stock seat is complete trash; Best mod I ever made was the Corbin seat. Now you can cruise all day and not destroy your lower back and ass. Then again, you only get about 125 miles per tank, so you're not going that far between fillups. Everyone says it's a "starter" bike, and it might be a good entry, but it's a solid daily. As for parts being cheap, bubba, what the hell are YOU smoking? A lot of things are only available from Ron Ayers, and they do be pricey. I have had this 02 for 12 years, and just had to replace the fork tubes and do a full rebuild. You think the battery is a bitch, just wait until you try to change the air filters or have to synch or tune the carbs. This was the last season I'm running a stock intake. I'm going to conical K&N style, because the air box design on this is nightmare fuel. My 91 FXR by comparison, is astonishingly simple, and only has a 1" longer wheelbase. And if you want to swap out the footpegs, good 'effing luck. It takes some fabrication to get anything to work. I really love this bike, she was a match made in heaven, despite some iffy engineering.
I’m about to buy my first bike I’m 5’10.5” - 5’11” and I was looking at some of these. What would you recommend as a first bike then for someone who has little to no riding experience?
I've had a 2000 800 for a few years now, its quick and fun. Im short and have a 30" inseam so it fits me ok, with highway pegs. it's not a tall person bike,.would be very cramped for a 6' person. Yea, the buckhorns suck, been looking for a cheap set of drag bars and risers.
Suzuki Intruder vs400 was my first bike. And I would like to buy vs800 to use have it forever. It is amazing. Hard to service, but it is kinda serial custom. If it is too small for you, take vs1400, this guy is bigger.
The 03 Intruder VS 800 will be my first bike. My husband found an incredible deal on the bike from a coworker who had this. The coworker bought it brand new as his first bike. He put just a little over 2100 miles on it. After which, he removed the battery, gasoline, covered it, and kept it stored for almost 21 years in a heated garage. We got it for $800! With it sitting that long, my hubby had to clean the carbs. After he cleaned the carbs, put gasoline in it, and used an external battery to test it, it fired right up. Being a little shorter than 5'4", I was able to sit on it flat-footed and lift it up off the kickstand without a single issue. We have to get a battery for it and make sure we do all the normal checks on it, but it should be ready for the road. Heck, even the tires on it were like brand new. No dry rot.
Those feet controls seem like they would be comfortable for someone who is used to riding a dirtbike. Or are the a little too far forward? Can you comfortably stand on them while riding?
I guess it's all what you're used to to me they are in the exact wrong spot but they are too far forward to stand up on but not far enough forward to be stretched out and comfortable. 3 inches back or three inches forward would be great
How are you not going to know how to put your own battery in your bike?! How would you buy a bike you didn’t ride on first? You can tell within two minutes on a bike if you like it or not. It’s mine and my husband’s first bike together and we adore it. We will not be getting rid of it at any point. We are intending on getting a Harley. But, this bike goes hard! We have zero complaints. The original seat is comfortable for us both. Also, if you got THAT bike for $500 you’re just a Karen for complaining. Go get a four wheeler if you need more room to fit your butt. Sheesh.
This is not an unbiased review! You let your opinions based on your personal likes and dislikes affect your judgement. I'm 5' 11", and I've had an Intruder 800 since 2004. I love the look of it! It's fast and powerful out of the gate. My wife and I can ride comfortably for an hour. 30 minutes out and 30 minutes back home. (She's 5' 3" and sits behind me.)
It's a great handling cruiser, easy to balance, you don't have to put your foot down at a stop, and I think it's my easiest bike to handle in a parking lot. I'm only 5'4 and I feel a little cramped on this bike. So if you're shorter than that, this is the bike for you. I have ridden a few bikes with a lower seat but they were underpowered and managed to have a seat that was too low even for a shorty like me. I always liked the look of the first generation intruders, but I owned a 1400 and did not like its performance or handling. Again, I just put an 800 on the road and can't get over its nimble handling. It's become my go-to errands bike. I have over two dozen motor bikes, And I swapped them out like partners at a contra dance. The last year and a half I've been checking out cruisers, and was surprised to find that height plays a significant factor in which cruiser you like. Mostly because of mid, mid forward, and forward foot controls. I've tried out models from the five main manufacturers And at this point consider the Kawasaki VN 750 Vulcan is my do it all choice, and the intruder 800 is my just hop on it and ride choice for this short rider.
New they were 8000,00 ,I got the 1400 and when it first came out they were called harley busters it would smoke a harley the same size it's got really good power ,and it rides smoother than a 2008 fat Bob screaming eagle edition, I know that for a fact . Course as the story goes, the more you get the more you want. But a small tip 650lbs is 650lbs if it starts to lean straighten your wheel and bite down cause once s bike starts to go down your usually in deep shit. They always go down when you least expect it, and it's usually when you're not moving or turning in un familiar turf or incline.
Thanks for posting this video man, i don't get what you got so many dislikes. Probably from short men, (LOL) Im a 199cm guy and looked into this buy because i want an old (tax free) classic bike and i kinda liked the look of it, Very easy to mod as well. But i realized now that this is waaay to small.
I have the 1400 cc and love it I’m 6 foot and I can ride it all day I would have to disagree with you 100 % like the saying goes “opinions are like assholes everybody has one”,and that’s just your opinion.
I bought an 800 last night and I’m 6’2”. Very fast bike but couldn’t pass up the deal I got on it. By the time I got home from 45 minute ride my freaking feet was killing me. It is a short. Fast bike. Definitely not a cruiser
@@JohnSmith-cf4gn I’ve owned two Kawasaki and will never have another. Both of them were junk. I’ve had two Honda’s and two Suzuki’s and all four of them ran great. I went to look at a 07 Vulcan I900 sharp really like and after two minutes of running it started throwing oil and I said no more Kawasaki. I almost forgot about my last two it was so long ago. I’ve gotten a little used to this one but still too tall for it. I’m gonna do a couple things to try make it more comfy and if that don’t work I’ll sale it and get a bigger bike. What’s the max MPH on that bike? Got a 94’ and my top MPH is 65mph. Any suggestions if that’s normal or there’s something I need to look at to increase that MPH? Thanks!
Wow 65 is low something is really wrong 100 should not be an issue check to see if both pistons are running easy way to tell are botth exhaust pipes hot where they leave the engine
Ok so I fired it up again today and rode it for 30min. The passenger exhaust did not get hot like the driver. The temp was like holding a cup of McDonald’s coffee. I could literally grab the exhaust.
so its one of 2 things spark or fuel. test 1 take the spark plug out and put the plug back in the boot. hold the plug 1cm away from the engine and crank the engine. do you see a spark? if no you have to fixspark if yes its fuel. I think this bike has 2 carbs if I remember correctly take the carb out & clean the carb and the jets
Thank you for taking your time to answer my questions. Just change the spark plug 2 months ago. I’m going to recheck the gap also. Definitely do the carb tune. The other questions I got is, did you have to or what’s the life on those spark plug coil? How often would you change them?

Thanks brother 6.1 so I’m all about forward control.
The whole reason I’ve had my eye on an Intruder is because I’m 5’6”😂
I’m about to buy my first bike I’m 5’10.5” - 5’11” and I was looking at some of these. What would you recommend as a first bike then for someone who has little to no riding experience?
I've had a 2000 800 for a few years now, its quick and fun. Im short and have a 30" inseam so it fits me ok, with highway pegs. it's not a tall person bike,.would be very cramped for a 6' person. Yea, the buckhorns suck, been looking for a cheap set of drag bars and risers.
They have forward controls that are like two hundred bucks
I noticed that myself. Was hoping I was wrong
Where I live a bike in that condition costs 5 times more.
Suzuki Intruder vs400 was my first bike. And I would like to buy vs800 to use have it forever. It is amazing. Hard to service, but it is kinda serial custom. If it is too small for you, take vs1400, this guy is bigger.
Thanks for the heads up . I'm 6'2" I found a nice cheap one that needs a clutch but I think I'll pass .
My wife loves it..shes 5'4" its like the perfect bike for her
The 03 Intruder VS 800 will be my first bike.
3 inches back or three inches forward would be great
@@71455olds I guess I'll find out, im supposed to be checking one out today haha
Good luck. Very reliable bike all the motor you.need. If you don't like the handlebars. Don't forget handlebars are cheap and easy swap
Sheesh.
I buying my first one ever tomorrow❤ for 1200 everything works except the odometer and the gas meter
Basically everything you don't like, i do like.
Don't agree with most of what you said I'm 6ft and don't have any problems, I guess it's just you cause I love the ride.
Looking to buy an 01 with 3100 miles. Really clean. Guy is want $3k is that to much?
I think so
At least you didn't get sucked in by Harley Davidson!
Bombproof engines but the most hateful induction, fuel system, carbs and throttle cables I've worked on in 45 years.
Probably from short men, (LOL)
Im a 199cm guy and looked into this buy because i want an old (tax free) classic bike and i kinda liked the look of it, Very easy to mod as well. But i realized now that this is waaay to small.
I'm 5,10.. Just got a 2001 Intruder..Only had under 6k miles
I love this bike but definitely is for low riders. Your review is realistic.
I’m 6’2 and it’s fine for me, just get highway pegs
I have the 1400 cc and love it I’m 6 foot and I can ride it all day I would have to disagree with you 100 % like the saying goes “opinions are like assholes everybody has one”,and that’s just your opinion.
I bought an 800 last night and I’m 6’2”. Very fast bike but couldn’t pass up the deal I got on it. By the time I got home from 45 minute ride my freaking feet was killing me. It is a short. Fast bike. Definitely not a cruiser
Get a Kawasaki 1500 Vulcan, an older one with shaft drive. You will want to marry her.
This one is fine for the day cruising and riding with my buds in this area. Just ain’t gonna take it cross country. Hard as hell to find aftermarket parts for it. All my friends are Harley boys but I just wont pay that much for a bike
So why did you buy it?Sounds like you bought the wrong bike for you.if it’s cheap and reliable?
Loll spoiler I don't like your Sandels
What’s the max MPH on that bike? Got a 94’ and my top MPH is 65mph. Any suggestions if that’s normal or there’s something I need to look at to increase that MPH? Thanks!
Wow 65 is low something is really wrong 100 should not be an issue check to see if both pistons are running easy way to tell are botth exhaust pipes hot where they leave the engine
Both exhaust are hot. Starts right up. Possibly needing a tune up? What’s your take?
Hey guy I am just learning riding one. I am been offer a 92 vs800gl with 60k miles..... apparently everything is great I been practicing for the las week and it hasn't show any problems. Yes it needs new tires at least the front one for sure. I am in the state of MS and I been ask 1500 what you guys think? Fair? Little to hight ? Anything hope to be help soon. Thanks guys
60,000 is high miles for a bike but as long as it body looks great then no that's not a bad price goodluck brother.
im 6 2 and i love my 1400 intruder, great power, handles great,i put forward controls on mine, maybe you have giraffe legs,,or have female hormones,& your not satisfied with anything,
Thank you.
6'1'' and enjoy riding nearly every day
If you paid 500 dollars for that bike you got a deal bro
If you happen to be vertically challenged as my wife it, the VS 800 is ideal for her.
I agree about the battery!
Thank you for so much for that unbiased opinion👍👍👍👍
Im 6 foot nice comfortable ride everything about is nice high quality
Your ass must be in the spot
I'm 5,5 and it's great tbh
Screaming it at 50mph???
I’m 6’2” and ride a grom lmfao
Love my 1400
You talked me out of buying one. Thanks boss👊
Definitely sounds like a biased opinion
Shorts and sandals.....yikes !
Damn someone woke up on the wrong side? 🤣 Why even u baught it if it was this so wrong for u 🤷♂️🤣 #Ugottagetmoorehappinesinyourlife
You had to take the rear tire off to get the battery out.... LOL. Nah, you're not the one to listen to about this bike. 0/10
Full of yourself 🙄
It’s a lady’s bike!
