Scottish Island VW Campervan life- Exploring Arran

- Having early retired at the age of 51, we love our VW Campervan, we love Scotland and we love finding the hidden places. We have a 10 day window before our next big adventure, so what better to do than hop on the ferry and discover the beautiful Isle of Arran.
Join us in our first few days on the island as we make the northern hamlet of Lochranza our base, climbing Goat Fell, getting out on the bikes, discovering the beautiful Fairy Dell and spending far too much time deer spotting! We also review our time at the stunningly wild Lochranza campsite for those people temped to visit for themselves.
We are Richard and Jackie and we live in the UK. Our plans for early requirement include relocating to the Yorkshire Dales, developing our forever home and travelling the UK, Europe and eventually the world in our VW campervan Nelson.

We live say an hour from Ardrossan, this is where you would have got the ferry to Arran. Cumbernauld, very central for touring Scotland, ten minutes from the Falkirk wheel and kelpies.
In another lifetime many moons ago I worked as a mystery shopper for Allsports and had to visit Cumbernauld every couple of months! We have visited the Kelpies a couple of times and still want to get to the Falkirk wheel. We are off to the shetlands and the orkneys for a month later in the summer 🚐

Lived on Arran for three years ‘97-2000. Loved it! Played all the golf courses, Blackwaterfoot is my all time favourite. I will visit again when I get my third Motorhome.
We have had 10 days on the island and have loved it too. Although not golfers ourselves we have chuckled at a couple of the courses with the deer and sheep on!
Saved to my Watch Later list! I've been to Arran a few times, with bike and hiking boots. As they say, it's all of Scotland wrapped up into one tiny island.
We have been fortunate that it has been pretty clear on our hikes with great views and not too boggy!
Arran is a cracking little island. When we stayed on Ranza campsite a couple of years ago the deer were everywhere, we had a Stag resting just feet away from our van.
They did make me chuckle on the golf course 🦌
The two of you make a great couple. I wish you a very long and happy life together. I was looking for some travel ideas in the UK. I will most likely visit the Isle of Arran and the Isle of Man next summer with my girlfriend
Arran is absolutely amazing, this was our second trip. We have never been to the Isle of Man but it is on our long list! Thankyou
Love your channel. Arran is a beautiful island, envious of the cloud inversion on Goat Fell - when I climbed it I was greeted by a white out and got lost coming back down!
Thankyou! We were so lucky to have great visibility and a little bit of atmospheric drifting clouds. Also lucky the wind picked up a little on the way back down to keep the midges away on the moorland on the way down! Weather from Saturday looks great 😊
Arran is now on our list after watching this! Looks idilic!

I've never been to the Highlands and Islands of Scotland - it looks a fabulous place
Arran is great because it is just over 3 1/2 hours from settle to the ferry so not much further for you but you get the feel of the highlands. Arran is known as mini Scotland as it is mountains in the north and lowlands and forests in the south
I’ll add it to my ever growing list of places to visit 😀
Loved the video guys. Trying to get the time to watch it was a bit of a challenge as we are touring around France at the moment. Just left Île de Ré having decided to go after watching your video and we loved it. Thanks for sharing. We’re booked up to go to the new Motorhome Aire at the Auchrannie Hotel in October.
The Il de Re truly is beautiful, hope the rest of your French trip goes well. We stopped off at the Aire yesterday but it is fully booked until Wednesday. It looks nice though and great location to walk into Brodick.

Enjoyed that, me and the Mrs climbed Ben Nevis 2yrs ago lovely weather all the way, 100 yards from summit the clouds rolled in couldn't see a thing lol.
We climbed Ingleborough last week and seemed to find the ONLY 20 minute window in the day where the clouds descended and the rain showers soaked us!! Still have Ben Nevis on our bucket list 🥾⛰️

Fab video. Love Arran and also recommend Loch Ranza campsite. Back from an amazing French van trip yesterday and have taken our headlamp converters off. Do you just keep yours on or my eyes playing tricks on me?
To be honest we forgot to take them off!! Hope you had a great French trip we are loving Arran
@@earlyretirementwanderlust 😂 I thought it was a clever way of saving money! If you’re still on Arran try out the Mara fish bar and deli before you leave. We had lunch there. Good food and good value.
