I've had 6 pairs of Moab shoes over the past 6 years and the soles are garbage because the black rubber surface is maybe 1/16 to 1/8" thick. I walk in the shoes regularly, in the city, and by 16 weeks the heel strike area is down to the soft grey sponge material underneath. Within 4 weeks of that, the heel is worn out. The laces broke on both of my last two pairs at 18 weeks. I had the heel repaired with a 1/4" thick 1/2 heel solid rubber sole, and after 9 months it is still wearing strong, with about 1/8" left. My new waxed cotton laces are also still good. I think a walking shoe should last about a year of regular wear. The repairs I did prove that this is easily possible. A small change in sole and lace specification would make these worth the hype. As it is, they are a quick turnover throw away product with good looks and great marketing, but a waste of human effort and resources. I complained to Merrell and I give them credit for a quick and satisfactory response, including a new replacement pair. However, the new pair and the models in stores remain the same, and the cycle of garbage consumer throw away products continues. But wow, do they ever look good!
Great question! in short Hoka Kaha 2 Mid= best overall hiking boot however expensive The Merrell Moab 3= Great price very great value hiking boot. The Moab 3 is almost $100 cheaper but great value
@@corridaurbana I would say if you are comparing the Moab to Kaha then yes Kaha is narrow compared to the Moab. Kaha for me, I wear a 10.5 did not have to size up or down and I run a little wide in general.
Hey Jonathon, Water can absolutely get through the mesh. However, on the boots you can see the mesh starts pretty high so you'd have to be quite high in water for it to get in. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching!
Glad to hear your are enjoying them!
How is the arch support in these?
Not bad! I have high arches didn't have any issues
If I have a wide foot would you recommend me still getting the non wide size?
Depends! I run slightly wide I fit great in the normal size. I would say if you are just slightly wide the normal size will do just fine!

are they warm enough for the winter?
They are
It depends on what your "Winter" is but I've worn them down to 15 degrees F and they've been warm enough for me
Can they support snowy conditions?
Yes! for sure I even snow shovel in these
Got a pair of Apex 3s and they are awesome!
I've heard people really like the Apex 3 version of the moab- thanks for the feedback & thanks for listening!
Are they true to size ?
I would say they run slightly wide other than that I would order your normal size!
Are they good for city walking
I use them to run errands, and will wear them out and about other than hiking
so yes!
How do these compare to the Hoka Kaha 2 Mid GTX?

Great review! Thanks! Have you ever tried out any boots from Mishmi Takin?
I have not, but I will check them out now! Any particular model you like? Thanks for watching!
Merrell is a brand that i want to rate 7 or 8, but i will confess to grabbing them quit often and my feet are comfy for a few hours or all day.
Thanks for watching!
I do agree I was skeptical at first, the boot does not look like it'd be as comfortable as it actually is
Can water get into the boot through the mesh?

If you get the moab3 gorges, the mesh looks the same but is both breathable and water proof
Sorry, that’s Gore tex
