I believe he does love his children. I just believe he is not man enough to take accountability for his choices and consequences. He seems to emotionally detach himself from the problems. It could be a coping mechanism stemming from traumatic experiences in his childhood. I don't know what it is but if he wants to reconcile with his children, he better resolve it quickly.

The truth is you abandoned your children and marriage. The marriage is irretrievably broken, but you don't want the same for your children. Ask the children for forgiveness and do the work to rebuild trust in the children's life. If you are not willing to do that, then stay the hell out of the children's life. They are better off without you.
