A fun job? Maybe for the first couple of hours. Imagine doing this every day for 8-12 hours. It's dumb, boring, monotonous, and absolutely unrewarding.
Ethanol is cool and all... but doesn't it take more Diesel fuel to plow, plant, harvest, transport, unload, level, and process the corn into ethanol than it's worth? just looking at this video in one stage of the entire process, you've got 5 Fuel-hungry machines chasing the corn around. is it really cost effective to make ethanol out of corn?
Is that "Corn" used for livestock feed, or for human consumption? Because tractors are running over it - I'd imagine oil dirt etc is getting mixed into it by those machines.
The worst part of this job that makes it a lot worse than farming is the fact that whatever you do nothing changes. Nothing grows, nothing moves, nothing changes. Hour after hour, day after day, year after year. I love tractors and would love to drive one, but not like that.
Probably once every 2 or 3 days. I run rock trucks in environments a lot dustier than that and thats how often we do it, although once in a while a machine gets choked up and we have to pull out of the rotation to bang it out.
@yakyakyak69 Food being wasted? Last year corn was one of the few American trade products we had a surplus of and farmers were able to export $10 billion worth because of it. If we can find more uses here in America such as corn ethanol I don't see that as waste!
ok, we'll listen to you. we won't drive on it. we'll just leave it in a pile and let it spoil, instead of packing properly just like what all farmers and companies have to do. otherwise, yeah i agree, hunger's a major issue and the ethanol thing is pretty ridiculous.
Fuel is fuel, I have to wonder how much energy it took to process the corn compared to energy produced from it? Consumer demand will always provide the best energy at the lowest cost, allow the government to be involved and prepare for waste at the expense of the tax payers(not so worried about those who can afford the taxes as those who can't)
@yakyakyak69 for example if you had kids going to a public school you can thank farmers because property taxes pay for them. what does your "business" do exactly
sorry lomira didnt mean to post at yoou i was gonna answer your question and got off path.. i was gonna say no there diesel but bio disel can be corn oil though it has to be refinned before just putting it in the vehicle wear as e85 is refined corn.. i wish i new a more scientific explanation, im interested myself.. we have an ethanol plant here were i live called poet bio-refining... FARMERS help us with the answet
@OliverFarmsInc27 Actually in Kansas the lower taxes fees that farmers pay are subsidized by the higher taxes & fees paid by others. Ag. in KS hasn't been able to support it's own generation for decades now, much less support the current & next generation of the communities that originally grew up around Ag. when the gas, oil & water well dry up KS is really screwed. No one is speaking the truth to get prepared. The Wsrn 1/2 of KS will be part on the new US outback.
im a farmer and i have jever just been given money. if i have insurance and weather detroys my crops yes i will be paid. but insurance is not cheap. or the equipment. diesel. chemicals. seed. labor. you people can he so ignorant
All that taxpayer subsidy money wasted, and water taken from underground, so you can have a product that gets less gas mileage, has it's own pollution problems, and has a fun time with your engine's longevity (and can't be used for small engines). Whoopee.
....... ethanol is a bunch of garbage this destroyed enough small engines in this country. It's time to put an end to it. I'm all for the farmers but this is not the way to do it
@yakyakyak69 Also that the fuck is a "GIANT" producer? i guess i dont know shit cuz i have to ask since i only have live on, work on, and half own a farm in iowa and i dont see any of these alleged giant farms. and the term "family farms" is just a name. Our farm is a corporation as a way to save a few dollars in taxes and we have enough people in the family to sign to make it a corp. even though were not technically a family farm I still consider it one because its all family
to everyones crued comments about farming and ethanol. well get ready to feel your pockets pinched pall, here in indiana the drought hit use the hardest and yes we grow so much corn folks call us corn fed hicks, well the yield this year is terrible though it hasnt been harvested yet its less than halfs its normal height, my point was our corn is grown for livestock and ethanol.. so anything that eats or uses corns prices will also rise example BEEF....
@yakyakyak69 But i guess our crew of me, my dad and, my cousin make us a "GIANT" producer.I suggest getting out of your little apartment in the city and going out and working on a farm and bust your ass all day, every day for a few months non stop, puttin in 15hrs a day and maybe then you'll start to get a brain. If you would of worked as much as i have you wouldn't be bad mouthing the people that make your little miserable life go around, come visit me if you still have a problem
Looks like a fun job to have. Big boys with big toys in a big sand box.
A fun job? Maybe for the first couple of hours. Imagine doing this every day for 8-12 hours. It's dumb, boring, monotonous, and absolutely unrewarding.
I bet you guys have fun keeping those air filters clean!
I think it's funny no matter how many times they doze it you can't tell
The pit is so big. Each tractor is only moving a 1/8 inch at a time
Ethanol is cool and all... but doesn't it take more Diesel fuel to plow, plant, harvest, transport, unload, level, and process the corn into ethanol than it's worth?

Maybe a candid question: why are they dozing it? sun dry?
Is that "Corn" used for livestock feed, or for human consumption? Because tractors are running over it - I'd imagine oil dirt etc is getting mixed into it by those machines.
The best combination, Degelman and John Deere

I trained for this job many years ago. Tonka Toys and a pile of sand.
@fendtfahren
Totaly agree! Because us rich wants to drive earth friendly, the whole world have to live in hunger in about 10 years!
By the looks of things they're either driving on a big heap or in a massive silo and they're moving it from the conveyor.
how many times a day would you have to clean out your air intake with all that dust?
Probably once every 2 or 3 days. I run rock trucks in environments a lot dustier than that and thats how often we do it, although once in a while a machine gets choked up and we have to pull out of the rotation to bang it out.
Anyone thought of a longer, radial conveyor?
No bad, i glad i don't need to wash the Tractor's, so is Nate in one of the Tractor? What speed you running?
I didn’t see anything productive but it looks fun!
I'm baffled as to why the circling, how big is the heap they are on, is this just an incoming harvest heap...
it looks a tad bit like water the way the corn moves as its being pushed around
those air filters have got to get pretty dirty/dusty pretty quick!
@yakyakyak69 Food being wasted? Last year corn was one of the few American trade products we had a surplus of and farmers were able to export $10 billion worth because of it. If we can find more uses here in America such as corn ethanol I don't see that as waste!
Why don't they put the blades down further to push more corn
why is the corn spread out like this? is it a step in the ethenol process? thanks
And the rain can ruin the corn?
the whole point of an ethanol plant is that it fermets corn
now do those run off of ethanol too?
whats fun is makin a game outs of this we always try ta make new games with it
Can I have this job I want to drive big tractors for hours in circles ha :)
is this in Iowa?
Some oil, abit of salt and a hot day and that might be a really nice job.
ok, we'll listen to you. we won't drive on it. we'll just leave it in a pile and let it spoil, instead of packing properly just like what all farmers and companies have to do. otherwise, yeah i agree, hunger's a major issue and the ethanol thing is pretty ridiculous.
How about if the rain coming ?
Anybody know why this is done?
Probably create jobs. Lol
not really i do this a lot at the ethanol plant by us and i really enjoy
Do they just drive around in circles all day?
sometimes they stop for lunch
Wasteful, yes. But less wasteful than turning the farmland that produced it into mini ranches or housing developments.
This subsidizes farmers who grow corn. Not worth that much as a fuel. Cost to the taxpayers.
what a job.
@yakyakyak69
for example if you had kids going to a public school you can thank farmers because property taxes pay for them. what does your "business" do exactly
Cool blade though much more multi functional than buying a wheel dozer that's slow without a 3pt hitch and multiple PTO options

you know youve got alot of corn when......
I feel sorry for those air filters :D
im a farmer and i have jever just been given money. if i have insurance and weather detroys my crops yes i will be paid. but insurance is not cheap. or the equipment. diesel. chemicals. seed. labor. you people can he so ignorant
And hes making another left turn
its worth it prove it
well just hope the tractor doesnt catch on fire...
One I think will be enough
wow
every nices to watch
id get dizy after awhile
burning ALOT of carbon to make moonshine, doesn't make sense to me.
Seems like they're wasting ethanol just to push more ethanol around! lol
That is everything capitalism is not supposed to be about. If you can't survive.. you shouldn't be in business.
What a phenomenal waste of good corn.
Yeah
just turn the radio and ac on, and go to town :P
Willians
those guys are sitting on tens of thousands of tons of corn, and each ton produces 400ltrs of fuel, that is alot and yes it is worth it
All that taxpayer subsidy money wasted, and water taken from underground, so you can have a product that gets less gas mileage, has it's own pollution problems, and has a fun time with your engine's longevity (and can't be used for small engines). Whoopee.
Another negative person with his head in his ass ,if you dont have anything good to say why even open your mouth and show off your inteligence
Wow look at that gigantic waste of money!
Thats my kind of job
....... ethanol is a bunch of garbage this destroyed enough small engines in this country. It's time to put an end to it. I'm all for the farmers but this is not the way to do it
Roger Lund if you had enough money to pay lobbyists to argue on your behalf... They MIGHT give you the time of day.. But probably not!
Ahhhh....EASY JOB..!!!
Ethanol goes in gasoline...
@yakyakyak69

i would do this job 4 free
ethanol is crap and should be illegal to make and use
I think you don't get sarcasm :-)
Maybe they should use ethanol for the tractors Oh wait lol
TBH 5mins was enough lol
wasting a lot of fuel big tractor small pile of corn with dozer haul and dump much more efficient would only need 2 tractor's
Tht be interesting for about a half n hour then I'd start going nuts...talk about a shit job
Government subsidies at their best and the taxpayer foots the bill.
@yakyakyak69
