Why study geography? Because it's all around you. It shapes many of the things you see around you. Start at home. Study the environment around you, and then go from there and study everything else everywhere. GEOGRAPHY IS DYNAMIC. The Earth is constantly changing.
I can point out all states in America, all European countries, all Asian, American and African countries that are bigger than Luxembourg, do you think that's good enough or should I study the smaller countries as well?
It is more than just about pointing out the counties and states. It is about why places are the way they are. It is about the physical and human-environmental forces shaping places. It is good to study the smaller countries too. However, study the forces that shaped them. For instance, San Marino. It is considered the oldest republic in the world. It was founded by a Christian monk seeking refugee from persecution. It was found that the mountains made for a good place for those seeking refuge.
