There was a story I read in school. A king drew line and asked his ministers to make it bigger without touching it. One smart minister drew a smaller line next to it. and the former line became bigger.

there was this feeling among some Indian elites before independence (but I know you got your independence after 2014) that if the country gains independence then all the poor people, which are huge in number, will have their way and may ask for social and economic justice from the newly formed local indian government and it did happen as policies like land reform was introduced after independence by which large zamindars have to give away portion of their land to people who have none. And other feeling is if these poor people's social condition improves then there is a chance that they will challenge the elite indian classes' dominance. That is why some people hate the country's independence demand.
It is understandable why some may still whole heartedly miss lord Mountbatten. aur kese miss nahi karega 6 rupees pension usko milta tha us time. And may be it is for that reason some organisations have never hoisted the national flag in their office for 70 years🙏
