Kundiman also pertains to the 3 syllables Kung + hindi + man which translates to "even if not.../if not then". It means that you offer your affection to the one you love even though it's not returned or circumstances/obstacles prevents both of you from being together. It is a Filipino traditional courtship song that tells about one's enduring love for someone or even for one's love for country.

Kundiman has 2 meanings in tagalog, (1) its a traditional Classic Filipino Love Song to Serenade their beloved country or to the one they adore and cherish; and (2) a conjuction of 3 words Kung-Hindi-Man which means "Even if its not..." or based on the context of the song it means "Even if we're not... (I still love you)".
Waving handkerchiefs used to symbolizes courtship as part of the traditions. When a man picks up the dropped handkerchief of a maiden it means he do like/love the maiden who dropped it.
