In the modern age, education has been segregated from Religion. social studies and history has been segregated from Religion. Mythology and cosmology is associated with both religion and education.
Whats left of religion is who gives praise to the sacred, and its command structure.

I live in NZ, never heard of Mr Lemon before, I like what he had to say because its our experience here too in terms of the rise of Evangelical churches here & their support of Trump-its terrifying. Lemon was a guy on CNN, I saw his show after Jan 6th when I was trying to find out about what happened
I feer the future for the entire humanity since Trump will create a disruption in the poewer balance and Russia will attack Europe and Chine will put the entire east asia under their thumb. As a Christian parent who also happens to be trans and queer, I believe we should keeo church and state separate. Living in Tennessee I always hear "Christians" around here saying they don't want someone's religion forced on them, but only when they're speaking about Muslim or Hindu or Buddhist or Jewish beliefs. I don't want to force my beliefs on others either!

There are millions, like myself, who are spiritual, Not religious. I "inherited" evangelical beliefs but over time, with willing to open up and learn about the world, and other people, I left the Church, but not certain spiritual understanding. I am happy to live in the US and support democracy 100%.

I am a Christian but believe in separation of church and state. I also can reasonably discern when someone says they are a Christian that they are not behaving like one. Nothing conservative or Christian about lying constantly, committing crimes, cheating in marriage, worshipping money, being racist, sexist and elitist. I don’t see any “love for thy neighbor” either. The very basis of Christianity is caring for others. Really caring, not lying to get your agenda accomplished.

What a breath of fresh air listening to Don. His views are pretty parallel to my own when it comes to Christianity and politics. Even though I am more of an unchurchy Christian (even though I do attend church on a sporadic basis), the way many evangelicals and other Christian’s interpret writings in the Bible, I interpret some of those verses or writings in a different way, especially when it comes to a woman’s autonomy. I am pro choice when it comes to abortion. Pushing your views onto others is not something I do or like to see. It’s just not very effective. I hope to read Don’s book even if I’m not an American.

Religion is a byproduct of our evolution as Homo sapiens. As far as I’m concerned religion will always be around, and I don’t think it’s neither a good or bad thing.

I’m voting democrat straight down the ballot this November and I don’t go to church anymore because of how much money and politics have weaved their way into church. Money has woven their way into churches because of the way you dress. Do you know the looks I have gotten because I wasn’t wearing a 3 piece suit? The service turned me off the instant the priest started talking about politics. Don’t sit back and say it doesn’t happen, it happens all the time. Politics and money have no place in church and politics is actually against them being able to be able to keep their status as a church. An example x-friend of mine best demonstrated it to me. After not being in touch for a number of years we ran into each other and I was surprised he was a Trump supporter.
From listening to him and seeing how he related to his world I realized that although he was 1st generation American, his parents immigrated from Ecuador and he was born in the USA, he did not see himself as a son of emigrants, he saw himself as a white American and agreed with Trumps deportation position even thought his parents immigrated illegally into the country.
I think that those people that support Trump or are on the fence about who to support don’t see themselves as the target of Trump’s policies.
An economically stable or conservative minded Black person might see other blacks as THOSE CRIMINAL BLACKS, same goes for a woman, she may see the targets as those unsavory promiscuous women that will get their just deserved.

@@WERC-lawyer- I just looked this up and they are basically the same except Catholics turned one commandment (“don’t covet anything that belongs to your neighbor”) into two specific ones (“don’t covet neighbor’s wife” AND “don’t covet neighbor’s property,” essentially). The commandments all have the exact same underlying messages, though. 🤷🏼♀️

I grew up as a Mormon. I am now not into religion. I can't fully decide what believe in God at this time. I don't question others their beliefs, I let feel everyone has their right to believe what they will.
I really have no problem with religion. I try to be accepting. I was raised in a Mormon family so I understand religion persecution to a degree. People on both sides have to keep an open mind you can't prove you are right anymore than we can prove you wrong. Nobody has the moral high ground.

Fundamentalists believe that 45 is the means by which god will bless the US and bring about the rapture, return of jesus, etc. In other words, they are using him as much as he is using them. His actions or integrity have nothing to do with it. Republican politics is their religion (aka the way to maintain their way of life, bigotry, patriarchy, racism, etc) and 45 is their idol. Some have left the church/faith because of it but plenty of others will never be swayed.
I personally believe that a god who needs 45 back in power in order bestow blessings is not one I'd ever want to identify with.
For anyone listening, I’d suggest exploring Nanci Danison’s books or video interviews for a completely different take on religion and science. I wish I had time to write more in this comment, but if you look up Nanci’s take on all of this, you won’t be disappointed.

My biggest concern is when I have asked an extremely Christian person. What if a 11 - 18 year old girl is raped or a victim of incest and she gets pregnant , she should absolutely not be forced to have the baby. She said it was God’s will? Struck me hard that religion would not protect the victim.

Just bc they agree in many areas doesn't mean Christianity isn't destructive in their lives. No, generally the better the person, the less religious they are. You simply cannot BE healthy when you believe you're inheritantly evil and can't trust yourself at all. No, my first step towards happiness was leaving religion.
