I think movies are not doing well, the world over. Hollywood movies (if they aren't superhero films or big established IPs) are struggling to make back money as well. Bollywood is in deeper shit because the quality was always questionable to begin with. Our "spectacle" movies are just shorthand for full blown masala films where just about anything can happen! Our so-called stars don't put any effort in the acting, the people who are talented get sidestepped for star kids and the plot is the first thing to go out of the window. They just aren't worth spending my money on anymore!
Especially since OTT has brought so much good foreign cinema to our fingertips!

The whole ‘OTT is convenient’ argument is a sham. The dealings between production companies and streamers leave a lot of people out of the deal. Also, what we need is theatres to stop prohibitively expensive movie tickets but the chain theatre system will do that to you.

Movies like Soorarai Pottru should not be remade. A great story, made in a rooted and intense (?) way. Which is why despite having a real and interesting story, Sarfira could not do well. Also, Soorarai Pottru was actually an OTT release, no idea if it would've done well in theatres.

The director is a very sensible guy and this movie was a very sensible honest attempt at something new in Indian cinema and it has some captivating sequences too.
It for sure wasn't any another Indian movie .
