Ive always wanted to understand this. Im happy I came accross this. I feel those songs in my soul. Im not native but I have a ton of respect for the culture.
I teach English in 🇵🇹. ALL November is Pow wow month(then I teach Thanksgiving the last week of Nov) and I teach them basic kids circle dance, drumming from videos. If it's permitted, it'd be awesome to have an authentic simple song to teach them (walking - about 6 years old.. and of course my colleagues and I would benefit as well)😁
Great video! Can you break it down with examples? I wasn't sure exactly how your song at the end lined up with each section (lead, follow-up and body). I'm looking forward to video 2!
thx for the video from germany . one question, can you maybe tell the text in english? or is the singing just more like the drum a melody? sorry if it is a stupide question but here in germy we dont learn any about native american culture. (sorry for bad english from an old men from far away)
These songs can’t be sung in English it’s more of a vocal melody, some songs have words in them but is sung in their native language, different tribes throughout Canada and United States all have they’re own style of songs and different languages so each drum song is unique, if you search up southern style powwow songs and northern style you will here the differences
2 starts/1 pushup is specifying how many times you sing the song. Singers cover their ears to try and hear their own voices isolated. Singers will pinch their throats to squeeze out a little more range.
I have a question I'm white not native at all but I feel that the way they sing the songs with their throats the way they produce the notes the sounds and The rhythms connect with nature in the world so I want to learn those rhythms and notes so I can project them and connect with Mother Nature and the Creator I want to know is it offensive to try and learn these and sing these because I want to connect with other natives to show me how to connect with the world because they love the world and truly understand it I believe I don't know if this is offensive or not

Can u teach how to sing as well
What does one song two starts mean? What does "one pushup" mean? Why do they cover their ears and hold their throat?

Do you use a drum
Where's lesson two?
