Bentley is among the most luxurious and best-performance cars in the world, hand-crafted by some of the finest materials available for the ultra-rich. But underneath all that beauty lays a tragic history behind.
The man who founded Bentley rose his company to top glory during the 1920s, building some of the fastest, durable and most lucrative cars of his time, and even winning five Le Mans races in the company’s first 11 years of existence. In its peak, he and the Bentley Boys would often break international headlines, legendary for being extraordinary racers, playboys and adventurers.
But a series of events would cause the company to come crashing down, and Bentley’s founder himself, would instead be discarded and forced to work for his greatest arch rivalry at the time… Rolls Royce.
This is the story of a man who created one of the most fascinating car companies in the world… only to lose it all.

Bentley was English, so he didn't use aluminum in his cars, he used ALUMINIUM
A car going over 100mph in the 1930s sounds terrifying
In 1937 Mercedes hit 268 mph on the Reichsautobahn.
@@NorceCodine How do you know, were you there to see it happen?
@@NorceCodine the Bentley’s were road cars that were so good they were adapted for racing and won. The Mercedes that you mention was a one off, financed by the Nazi Party as a propaganda stunt. It’s like comparing a Bugatti Veyron to Thrust SSc
@@NorceCodine *WRONG.*
This youtube channel came outta nowhere. SO GLAD I was able to find it!!!
These men really suffered from betrayal, if only he had a child to keep up with his father’s legacy. Nice work for the creator of the video
My favourite documentary on cars🔥
I AGREE!!!
Sounds like majority of the car brands creators were treated terribly. Sad story 😢
I knew rolls took over Bentley but had no idea what it did to them! Quite sad for the inventor. Growing up in England in the 70s the idea was a Bentley was for people who had money but couldn’t afford a rolls.
This is a Haunting Question of the Ages: Do Cars and Companies with their unique attributes and trademarks, have a destiny for fulfillment in future time, no matter what happens that seems to contradict that, as in the Fate of Individuals as well as Nations?
@@albertkundrat1734 😮
@@nicoledansler259 Thanks!
But still in the world now still the big man can afford Bentley
To be fair, Rolls-Royce didn't do anything new, hostile and/or silent takeovers have always been around, it's harder to do now as you have to disclose a lot more and there's too much information out there but we see big companies buying up their competition just to shut them down, Amazon has been notorious for doing this, Google too.
The fact that W.O.Bentley died in my hometown sorta gives me chills.
He was a great man it's horrible how Royce destroyed his company and made him test driver
My deepest condolences goes to you and W.O Bentley’s loved ones. 🤲🏽❤️
I like Bentley more than I do Rolls Royce
I thought I was the only one
Me too
A rolls is like a bmw Bentley is amazing but the maybach rides better all my opinion when riding it
Agreed
Me too
And by the way they say Bentley is for old money
Rolls Royce for new money
So if you have Bentley that’s mean you classy and you not new to the money
Love your presentations. Integrating past and present images into the story make it interesting and artful. Thanks for the fine work and history.
We need a ferrari, ford, .mercedes, rolls Royse, and mclaren documentaries!!
My late father had a 1964 Bentley "S3", which was in fact a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud lll but with a different radiator grill. Nevertheless it was an incredibly civilised car to drive. I for one am delighted to see that after the controversial acquisition of Rolls Royce and Bentley Motors by the Volkswagen group from Germany, and the subsequent sale for a "bargain price" of Rolls Royce to B.M.W., Volkswagen kept the Bentley Marque. They have wisely decided to distance themselves from the one time "sister" company who, had always intentionally overshadowed them and return to Bentley's sporting roots. Now the marque rightfully has regained it's place as leaders amongst the automotive elite...!!
my late father was Bentley
I like you describing the car as "civilized" to drive. That's a word not used enough anymore in the automotive nomenclature.
How are you doing today Peter
Oooouuurrrrrhhhh woooahhhhh!
Pltltltltltlltlt(fart noise)
I read this 5 times over before I got it
The continental GT has one of the best sounds I have heard. Great car nice performance but it needs cup holders! ;)
Love your contents! Extremely inspiration with the work that you do. 👍
I appreciate that!
Someone recommend me this channel I wasn't disappointed by what I found amazing work here man.
For some reason as a kid growing up, i would secretly like Bentley more then rolls Royce, In my eyes Royce makes absolutely clapped cars. Its like a fancy box on wheels
So very glad I found your channel.. Amazingly great content. I do feel sorry for him as sometimes life can suck and so do people. lol.. Blessings to you!
Always well presented
Reading excerpts sometimes makes it boring but I won't lie the videos of this channel are so good and informative.
Nice job guys, I do like the editing as well.
Great video, made me sub to your channel. Only slight criticism was not mentioning the Bentley blower and how he was initially against it.
What a legendary personality he had, and a very sad end
I have been patient for one of your masterpieces!
Finally here ✅
Great videos chief!
Beautifully explained ☺️
Algorithm worked wonders. So happy I came across this business biography; love Bentley
Very interesting and wonderful history. Thank you!
Unbelievable video. The editing is perfect, I loved it so much. Can you give me some tips on how to edit like you?
LEARN AFTER EFFECTS. 3D CAMERA IS USED VERY MUCH HERE.
The Bentley boys deserve a movie
I would drive a Bentley but not RR. Respect.
Praying you’ll keep uploading
Watched a few of your videos today ....very good sir
Keep up the work I love it.
Finally a new Video!
Another great Englishman from the past. Such a pity we don't produce them any more!..
It’s indeed sad, the innovation and creativity seems to fade as time goes by
Eh what about me?
@@seanday6403 with the exception of sean day
Almost thought you were on about the cars and I was thinking, it's a 5 minute walk to the Bentley production facility from home. Then I realized you were talking about great Englishmen and can't argue against that at all
John Oliver is rad.
Really great video!
Can’t wait for the next one
I want to say thank you for everyone for tuning in, I hope you enjoy the video! This one took a little longer to make :)
I have another one coming this month so make sure to turn on the notification bell :D
I hope its VW. The company that owns all companies 😂
I always anticipate these videos. So enlightening
Surprised there was no mention on how Bentley survived ww2
What software have you used?
Just keep it coming. I love your videos. very inspiring and informative.
This is very well done and very accurate
Awesome documentary
So y’all not gonna mention hiphop giving the Bentley brand a boost in popularity in the mid 90s?
Bentley gave Hip Hop the boost.
Those fast moving pictures really helped me understand the topic. =)
Nice overall video, but what is the purpose of the "falling ash" background? found it distracting.
Very inspirational 🎉🎉
Can you make a video like this for Volkswagen too ?
BTW nice videos ❤
When are you going to post another video 😊 love them
Very enjoyable to watch.
I enjoyed listening you to you narrate
Loved it!!!
This channel is great, not sure if he was inspired by Magnet Medka, but definitely the closest I’ve seen to magnet media, in storytelling and graphics. Great Job. Keep it going
I never knew the story about Bentley in the 1960s I live in California and had a Bentley it was not an it was not a new Bentley it was used and it was beautiful and I loved it so much but it wasn't made for California Hills and Benedict Canyon. At least I can say I once owned the Bentley. Now I take the bus.
I will be waiting for the upcoming videos
You left out the part where a woman financed Bentley during the 20's and early 30's . I forget her name ? I've owned an '89 Bentley Turbo R for 5 years now. Sad to say , it's going up for sale when it comes out of hibernation .Buying my dream car , a '75 Rolls Royce SS .
Hon. Dorothy Pagget. Thanks.
Even today, one can see the Rolls Royce never built a sports car as Bentley have. Yes, some will say the "Dawn or Wrath" but they are no where near the Continental GT. Bentley have always been the inervaters even when with RR. Just look at the Bentayga Bentley introduced, only for RR to bring out the Cullinan which is no a patch compared to the Bentayga.
Great content
Great work. Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
Story telling💯🔥🔥
great video!! i was wondering weather it was made by AI or real video editor person
?
Radiator sounds or radiator surrounds? Nice video.
Thank you!
Great video
Good Information.
I love the story I need too know more about this when can help me out
Now this is some channel!
It’s a great story. Just sad to see all the British brands have horrible reliability nowadays and lose value so quickly. From jaguar, Land Rover and Bentley to rolls Royce. While I love the jaguar v8 cause there is nothing like driving a v8 jag. The reliability rating is always the lowest.
Don’t forget Aston.
It all seems that Mr.Bentley had a cursed life too…. Just too many a few setbacks in his life that ultimately left him with nothing in the end…. Another sound proof of the existence of curses in human life.
not a word about the now most wanted Bentley: the Blower
I always love Bentley
Just last two months ago I end up buying a my own Bentley and I love it beautiful design love it
Enjoyable - certainly! But the pivotal point about aluminum pistons has almost nothing to do with the weight of the car. Reducing the weight of the parts that move and change direction, thus combating enertia, is what made the difference. The authors lack of understanding and subsequent blunder, which was repeated, is a death blow to the piece.
also the sound of the radiators
I had to subscribe 😊
Love the content. It's a British company so it's "aluminium" not "aluminum" lol
Fantastic Story!
How long does it take you to make one of these videos so I know how long I have to wait for the next one
imagine taking two weeks to do research, three days to storyboard, four days to find music and design sound effects, and a month to edit. i know because i make similar videos:)

What a story... I want a. Bentley soon !!!!
Matatan.🔥🤔🔥. Ribirin HS,
Bentley one of the best car ever.
12:29 Why does the car up top make the other cars look like the small playing piece from monopoly 😂😂
I don't see W.O. Bentley as some kind of victim or tragic figure
Like David Buick he had excellent understanding of things mechanical but little business acumen.
wow and the story behind Dees brand is really cool to know
How does this guy not have more subscribers???
He’s only 1 year old. He’ll get there.
Holy shit I subbed you rock bro
The thumbnail is way too spooky
Napier had intended to buy Bentley. Napier was once Rolls Royce's most hated enemy but Napier had stopped making cars after a disastrous model release to focus on their aero engine, the Napier Lion a Broad arrow 12 (John Cobb's Napier Railton land speed record car still exists and gets out every once and a while Lion powered car is still raced today). Napier decided to get back into cars by acquiring Bentley but was thwarted by RR. I am sure WO would have had a better time at Napier. There was a bit of a kerfuffle over the hidden RR purchase, Napier was not best pleased, a number of people have always maintained it was a dirty deed.
The vido should have provided information the cars WO designed for other manufacureres including the Lagonda V12.
To rub salt into the wound, Montague Napier had a big row with A.J. Rowledge, their then chief engineer who did most of the design work on the Lion, the Cub aero engine, and their cars. In my opinion, he was the greatest aero engine designer of his era in Britain and certainly up there in the world stakes. Rowledge went to Rolls Royce, where he had major input or acted as chief designer on the following aero engines, Condor III, Kestrel, Buzzard, the R (which replaced the Lion in the Schneider Cup races), did preliminary work on the Merlin before he became "unwell". When he returned to the company, he led a small team that designed the Exe X24, a very reliable engine, and RR's only air-cooled aero engine apart from the Pennine which was alarger version of the Exe . Sadly, the Exe was cancelled to allow more resources to be applied to fixing the serious issues with the early Merlin. Oh yes, in his spare time he designed a slew of smaller aero-related components and worked on the RR car chassis, creating a power brake system that was used for many years
The end story is a bit more complicated that that. When Volkswagen, after purchasing what was the Rolls Royce car company. Were driven to use the 'Bentley' name because they did not happen to own the 'Rolls Royce' branding legally, because the Rolls Royce name had ownership by the Rolls Royce Jet engine factory.
You seems knowledgeable
I like that how are you doing
Very interesting thank you. Just one criticism: the air war of WW1 was fort with by mostly biplanes. You have shown WW2 aircraft.
@Adrian Pilkington

The video's full of anachronistic images.

Would love an Aston Martin video!
Def so any of the old British manufacturers would be great mg too
A great story and fortunately not so tragic as they made it out to be.
You mention First World War. Then show Second World War troops. Wtf.😮
If you are going to sit in the back seat, buy a Rolls. If you are going to drive it, buy a Bentley!
1931 was a good year for me at least.
What I find fascinating is the age of these people when they started out compared similar ages of kids today
Hey some strange commercial beginning at 9:40, did someone else get this strange interruuption?
Very odd images throughout. The video talks about W.O. as a young man but pictures him as an old man. The video lumps together cars that are decades apart and many that were produced decades after W.O.'s death. The video is talking about WWI but shows images from WWII. All in all this would be better as a podcast because the images are totally out of wack.
(I never not tip in a restaurant, I never send food back, and I never ask to see the manager, if this video were a meal then it would be the exception.)
