  • This is a look back at Kawasaki's 2001 KX250. This was the machine that took Ricky Carmichael to his first Supercross title and second 250 Motocross crown. Already in the third year of its life cycle, the 2001 KX250 was a solid machine in need of a little refreshing.

      The guys at work all follow and watch you're channel where over the weekend I've been asked by one of their 9yr old sons ..."Frank"...
      1) "what is the job called that Mr Blazier does"?...
      A: Motorcross historian/journalist..
      and..
      2) "How can we do an interview of Mr Blazier for school because our team wants to ask him lots of questions"
      A: Press the 'Ask Tony' button??
      Tony, any idea if there will be a 'Ask Tony' button up soon where people can just press a button and ask any puzzler questions regarding dirtbikes of the past?

    My coworker decided to race arenacross with me last year. It was his first race. I ride an ‘05 yz125, and he had an ‘02 kx250. He broke his collarbone on the last lap of the main, and I had to take his bike to my house since he went to the hospital. Couldn’t believe how heavy the thing was. Had to move it around a lot cause it was in the way, and he wouldn’t come get it so it stayed here for several months.

    I used to have a 1997 kx 250. It was probably my favorite bike I've ever owned. Granted it wasn't stock. It had 2014 kx450 forks and an eric gore 300 kit. It did everything I could ever ask for. I currently own a 2001 yz250, it has more power and turns better than the kx did. It just dosent make me feel like a hero like the kx did lol.

    Why didn't you start with the 1990 KX? At the time they seemed like space ships in comparison to the competition! In short the 2001 KX was a 1994 with a newer fatter frumpy chassis 😊

    • @TheMotocrossVault
      @TheMotocrossVault  3 года назад +2

      It used to be that way but Yamaha petitioned the AMA in the early eighties to eliminate the works bikes in a effort to save money and better compete with Honda’s exorbitant budget. In 1986 the AMA passed the Production Rule and effectively ended the works bike era in the US

    Kawasaki toned these bikes down after 98' my friend had a 99 and another had a 2001, I outweighed those guys by 40 lbs , we dragged these bikes repeatedly different riders etc that 98 was 2 bike lengths every time no matter whom was riding, and seat of the pants felt like a big horsepower advantage....it just hit like babe ruth in the middle the other two were smooth.
